  1. I plan to be there. Lunch on Friday works for me.
  2. I stapled the cork to a block of wood and chucked the gasket cutter up in my Bosch Cordless drill. Back in the day, they may have held the gasket material in place with tacks. It's amazing what our forefathers accomplished without modern tools.
  3. There are a few on E-bay. Prices are in the $40 range.
  4. After keeping it in a drawer for many years, I finally got the chance to use my grandfather's gasket cutter. It worked like a charm and it took me back to the days when he and I would make wooden toys in his garage. He used the gasket cutter to make wooden wheels for our hand-carved cars. Who knew it would actually make gaskets too? Has anyone else used a gasket cutter like this?
  5. Thanks Matt. At least I know now that I haven't lost my mind. I am running Chrome on Windows 10, which shouldn't be that unusual. If you would, please change the title line in my profile to East TN Region. I appreciate your help. Hope to see you in Philly next month. Rgoer
  6. Thanks Matt. The only item under Basic Info is "Birthday." If you would, look at the screen shot below and let me know if my Edit Profile screen looks different from yours.
  7. Attached is a screen shot of my "Edit Profile" page. Am I on the wrong page when I try to edit my title or is there something I'm not seeing? I have no idea how my title line was set to show my name. I appreciate your help. Roger
  8. Thanks. Unfortunately I can't locate the "member title" field under "Edit profile." I don't have a burning desire to change my title, but I am baffled by my inability to do it.
  9. Below the display name is a second line the displays a title, such as "member," "senior member." "Exulted High Priest," etc. How does one edit this line under the display name?
  10. I have just purchased a 3.5 gallon parts cleaner and am curious what solvent the forum members recommend. I have read that solvents like mineral spirits can damage the parts washer pump. I have also read that water-based solvents are ineffective. I'd be interested in learning what other members prefer.
  11. I've learned that whoever you are, and whatever you drive, you're using the wrong oil.
  12. If you plan to drive the Packard for weddings as a business, you should probably have two wedding cars to assure you always have one road-worthy vehicle.
  13. My standard two-car garage has 9' ceilings, so my options are limited, height-wise and width-wise. I purchased a BendPak MD-6XP 6,000 Lb lift several years ago and it is perfect for my needs. I can sit comfortably beneath the car on a roll-around stool and reach everything I need to reach. Access to the middle of the car is limited, but that is typically not a problem. When the lift is not in use, I park a car over it.
  14. To avoid the danger of a short circuit, I cut a section of inner-tube and wrapped the aluminum duct where it is in close proximity to the solenoid terminal.
  15. Count me among the sinners who installed worm gear clamps and aluminum heater duct. Warm and toasty heat on a budget.
  16. Bob, Tires are always a topic of lively discussions whenever AACA folks get together, as are hose clamps. The good news is that you won't have to worry about correct radiator hoses or clamps with your Corvair.
  17. Yes. It's a big hit that will most likely keep you from getting your First Junior Award. You're going to need five bias ply tires if you plan to show your car. By the way, do you know which meet you will be attending?
  18. That Corvair is beautiful! 13" Firestone bias ply tires are available from Coker. I bought a set when I entered my '66 Corvair in Class Judging. I liked the looks and feel of the bias ply tires so much that I left them on and sold my radials. I think you should enter your car in Class Judging. It should do well, as long as you make the switch to bias ply tires.
  19. There are four spokes, located together on the left front wheel, that creak loudly when I drive my Overland. Old-timers tell me to drive the car through a creek to tighten up the spokes. Is a good soaking really the best cure for loose spokes or is there a better solution. Or could the creaking noise be an indication of a bigger problem?
  20. Very interesting car. From the wire wheels to the dual rear view mirrors, the car has "quality" written all over it.
  21. Nice carriage house! It's good to see a Corvair in those first-class accommodations.
  22. I'm curious about the throttle cable guide attached to the firewall. I don't have that on my Rampside. Was that original or was it added? What is the purpose of the guide?
