  1. The only thing keeping me here is my kids an grandkids.i know all to well about back surgery but each day I challenge myself to continue to do as much as possible,I have noticed home prices are rising in Prescott, when I leave calif I’m going to give my home to my daughter so I’ll just have my little savings and about 2.000 a month retirement, but calif is sucking the life out of me and I have to get out, dave
  2. Well I was born in Morgan, town West Virginia, have no desire other than to visit, moved to ferndalemich where we lived for several years have been back for a visit a couple of times like it don’t love it,moved to so calif, have lived here years hate it except for the weather, politics suck, very very high auto registrations, utilities are a killer,,home prices astronomical, more people moving out then in,then there’s immigration,we’ve all heard about calif immigration problems they are worse than you’ve heard,my wife passed away two years ago so I’m alone now I only have to worry about me,personally I’m lookIng at Prescott Arizona,I have nothing to lose,p.s. take care of your partner I was with mine for 47 years and it’s lonely without them, Dave
  3. Does anyone know Lester he deals in antique and vintage auto parts in Minden Nevada,I’ve recommended him for years and bought a lot of parts from him,I’ve tried getting a hold of him for the past month with no luck, anyone know him or talked to him lately, tried the only phone number I have with no luck, Dave
  4. I got into orphan cars because they where inexpensive,in 1970 when I bought my first 31 devaux,I payed 250.00; my buddy bought a comparable 30 Chrysler for 1.500.00 ,over the years it gets a little depressing trying to find parts.but I’ve made some good friends and helped others at times,I remember going to a swapmeet in the seventies with a buddy of mine and a vendor told me he didn’t have no damn foreign car parts to this day when I see my old friend he always laughs and says I don’t have no damn foreign car parts, now I have 3 devauxs and still can’t find any parts, Dave
  5. I own 3 devauxs to 31 and a 32 some times it’s a little depressing trying to find parts when you walka swapmeet and find nothing, and then your excited to find a beat up hubcap,I remember in the 70s a guy telling me he didn’t have any foreign car parts, when I can I purchase any parts possible over the years I’ve helped others with what theyve needed, owning 3 devauxs and a moon tells my story, Dave
  6. Hello. I used the por15 one time,it seemed like a descent product but way to pricey for me,the rustoleum I’ve used numerous times, the rustoleum has a very low u.v. Rating , on chassis and chassic parts it’s good because it doesn’t get direct sunlight and most cars set in the garage or undercover,I found that if you paint the rustoleum then wait about 2 weeks and sand itwithsome500 grit wet and dry sandpaper and repaint it you get a great finish and it doesn’t seem to tone down as much,I’ve been told they have a catalyst or hardener but I’ve never tried it,watch out because this paint gets on everything, very inexpensive product that is a good product, Dave
  7. That’s the same knob my devaux takes.im looking fo one that says fw for free wheeling if anyone has one, Dave
  8. Hello mark I hope all is going well with the plans. Of moving.when you decide on a price for the Buick could you please let me know,I believe it could be the car we talked about, thanks. Dave
  9. Yes that’s it,that one is a reproduction I know the car and the gentleman now deceased,I bought my first devaux in1970 and seen the mascot at harrahs a month or so later,I have been looking for one ever since, the mascot cost. A couple dollars in 1931,, and I don’t think a lot of them wheresold, years ago I talked to Howard reinke in Michigan he was the most knowledgeable devaux guy,he said he found a couple at Hershey over the years, but I can honestly say I’ve never seen one for sale, Dave
  10. If anyone has an original devaux mascot for 31. Or 32 that they want to sell I’d be very interested,I know reproductions are available but not quite right, Dave
  11. I tried to get a good pic but it’s impossible in the garage, the hole for the ignition is about one inch in diameter with one qtr inch hole directly above it,I’m going to try and figure it out between now and when the coil gets here,I’ll keep looking someone should have a switch and lock cylinder. Dave
  12. Van Meeteren in Wisconsin had it,I actually need 3 but I figured I found one I should feel lucky,it is originally autolie,as far as appearing in the catalogs the cars where only made 31 and 32 so there’s not a lot of info then or now,I bought several manuals but not much more than tuneup info, only less than 5000 cars where produced, Dave
  13. Thank you for the reply’s I’m not sure the ignition switch is gone and the coil was changed,I’ve ordered a. N.o.s. Coil but it hasn’t arrived yet,I was hoping someone would have a book so I could identify the ignition switch and possibly find one
  14. Nothing about devaux unless I missed it
  15. Hello everyone, is anyone aware of someone who specializes in ignition switch lock cylinders, the switch on my 31 devaux is missing I know I can buy an aftrmrkt but would like an original, mine has the coil mounted behind the switch, does anyone have a catalog that shows a part number or pic that might inter change with other makes, thanks. Dave
  16. The scammers are out and about today, got a call from Nevada this morning 775 213 3781,said his wife’s dad just passed recently the house was sold had a bunch of devaux parts, new right away it was a scammer,I believe it was the same guy who called me last year, told me his wife was deaf. No smart phone either, asked for a pi by text he said his phone wouldn’t take texts or pics kept him on the phone for awhile, told him to get the list of parts and call me back, when he called back I didn’t answer.waited about 10 minutes and called him back told him I just filled up the tank checked the oil and was ready to come get the parts just needed the address,he said it was out in the country, told him I was born in west Virginia so country didn’t bother me none, said he’d call as soon as his wife returned, believe it or not I’m still waiting, dave

  19. Hello Barry I know we’ve talked before about the continentals and the devauxs,I hope you have more luck finding a coupe than I have at finding a devaux cabriolet,I’ve got 2 31 devaux coupes a custom coupe and a sport coupe and a 32 standard coupe, several years ago there WAs a continental coupe on a trailer at the Pomona swap meet for sale,I have not seen it since, good luck with the search if I see another I will send them your way,p.s. a couple of years ago I sent you some info of a picture of a continental convert, was it right, good luck dave

  21. After being in then auto body collision world for around 45 years I have my opinions, first off I started off cleaning cars, then asa painters helper then as a painter then as a metal man, first off as a metal man you started with a body file a pick hammer and a dolly and slapped.most body work in ,the shop consists of collision work not body work, body work finishes the job before paint,sIncethe mid to late 60 s polyester filler has been used for a couple of simple reasone,1 it is faster,2it is less expensive3 alotof the sheetmetal is what they call is high strength low alloy steel, this steel is strong but thin and doesn’t take heat well, between heat and the weight of lead the industry needed a light weight filler,in the early years I believe bonds was just resin and talc,in the last15 years the filler has came along ways,4 th is thehealthconcernwith lead, bonds or polyester fillers was supposed to be used for imperfections only, but soon body men realized they could use it far thicker than what was recommended, when your on commission you. Work fast and cut corners, now for primers,in the old days it was common to use lacquer primer, you could apply numerous oats with no problem, body work was finished with 80 grit sandpaper, fast forward to today, the metal work is finished with 150 to 220 grit sandpaper, you cannot put numerous oats of primer as before, the primer now is more of a primer sealer than it is a sutfacer, you prepextra goodnow with these primers, the prick to a good paint job is always in the prep and prime, don’t cut corners and don’t try and hide your flaws, just my 2 cents. Dave
