  2. hello i know you guys are going to think im crazy, but watch local powder coaters, theyve been trying for awhile to match chrome, its not quite perfect yet but its came along ways in the last couple of years,i know its not original but in the future i think powder coating or a paint type chrome will be the way to go,the epa & the high price of copper will ultimately put platers out of business unless they find a different way of doing it,i live in southern calif an plating is very expensive,i talked to a gentlemen in the plating industry that was retiring,he said that plating hasnt moved like other industries, there still doing things like they did years ago, hopefully in the future they can find cost effective alternatives dave
  3. hello everyone can anyone tell me if there is somenoe whe specializes in the late 20s an early 30s type park fender lights, this is the accessory type lights that set on the top of the front fenders, similiar to a cowl light, my devaux has stabilite model b 934 headlamps and was told these lights matched the headlamps,as far as lens design, dont know if they where stabilite parklamps or some other accessory type thanks dave p.s. always looking for devaux cars, parts , and literature 1927 moon roadster 1931 devaux sports coupe 1932 devaux sports coupe 1939 pontiac 2 door sedan 1970 chevy elcamino ss 396 1070 olds 442 w/25
  4. jan good to hear from you,ive been a member of the durant club for several years,i havent had a chance to start on the devauxs yet even though ive had them a long time,as soon as i get a chance ill email you pictures, thank dave
  5. theres alot of good info here, the 1 thing you half to make sure of is you can see your work,as we get older if we dont weld everyday we dont notice are eyesight i found go to big lots or someplace similiar and buy a set of glasses for welding it took me 3 pairs before i found i that i could actually see the weld puddling up use these under your welding goggles ,after that it was like i had never stopped welding, also i like tig the best, but i think if youre restoring cars you need 2 sets of welding (oxy an acetylene) 1 large set to heat an cut with,an a small set like the cobra or equivalent for precise work on mldgs lights etc an also to silver solder with, also dont try to practice once in awhile, practice daily if possible, practice makes perfect.also if your going to try & hammer weld on sheetmetal find the oldest unplated coathangers possible, ive tried buying regular soft welding rod but for some reason coat hanger or bailing wire works best, good luck dave 1927 moon roadster 1931 devaux 1932 devaux
  6. hay i want to thank everyone for sharing there info with me,the pictures of youre restorations make me wonder if i can do as good a job on my cars,i live in southern calif at the present time so all suppliers should be close for any thing i might need, the moon is in a million pieces at the present time, as soon as i can im going to get the frame apart & cleaned & primed and start on the wood in the body, will keep everyone posted thanks again dave
  7. robin thanks for the ifo on the glue, ive noticed on the 31 devaux that none of the glues that they used have held up,im gathering alot of info thats going to help when i finally get started dave
  8. thanks seldenguy, ive been a little nervous about the wood work but ive always said nothing can be screwed up that someone else cant fix,for years i rebuilt wrecks cut them in half an generally found a way to put alot if cars back on the road,my wife wonders why i can cut a car in half an make a nice car but,a broken sprinkler usually flys across the front yard when i try to fix it,i guess we all have different agendas dave
  9. thanks to everyone for there reply, i have got alot of helpful info from everyone,i believe im going to restore the moon roadster first because its the roughest, unfortunately its the last car i purchased,it was bought new by a gentlemen in central calif,in 1951 he tore the car completely apart to restore it, the vehicle sat in a million pieces until about 2002 when a dealer in central calif purchased it,he mocked it up so it would look like a vehicle, thats when i purchased it the vehicle is pretty much complete but very rough, after setting outside for 50 years thankfully it was covered to protect it,but the weather still took its toll on it,the 2. 500 i payed for it didnt deem like alot but now i wonder,i did receive the original pinkslip withit, the 32 devaux i purchased about 7 years ago,its a 3 window sport coupe,it was setting in illinois all its life, a little rough but much more solid than the moon,am looking for anydevaux parts anyone may have, the 1931 devaux sport coupe i bought in 1969,i new i couldnt afford to restore it at that time no money an no experience,i was smart enought to put it in dry storage,i finally took it out inj 2000 an brought it home i have restored many newer vehicles from the 40s an 50s, so the early cars should be intresting, will post pictures when i start the resto, you guys can keep me in check,,,thanks for everything dave
  10. im not to good on the computer so bear with me,i owned a body shop at a toyota an jeep dealer in the 80s an 90s when the jeep wranglers first became so popular, first find out if its been in an accidentnthe customer will always say no so it doesnt void his warranty,if it has it may need to be put on a laser measuring machine,or dedicated bench, then if its 4 wheel drive go right to the motor mounts an frt drive housing mounting points, ive had problems in the past but none as severe as you state dave

    Moon Motor Car

i owjn a 1927 moon 660 roadster id like to help but mines missing the emblem, looks like 20s to me
  12. i know this may sound silly but i owned a body shop at a toyota an jeep dealership in so cal, if this is a 4 wheel drive chk the motor mounts & frt drive housing mt points, have had problems in the past but none as severe as you say if it has been in an accident it may half to be put on a genesis or shark type measuring system to find out if everything is properly aligned, ive seen many vehicles pass wheel alignment with frames that werent right,if it has been in fact in an accident it may half to be put on a dedicated bench, fixture type set up,this is a jig much like your manufacturer uses when assembling the new frame, let us know the outcome dave
  13. hello everyone have a question maybe someone can help with,i have 3 cars a 1927 moon roadster,a 1931 devaux and a 1932 edevaux,as usual they all need wood replacement, what wood do i use i was told to only use ash, then i was told only use white oak, now i hear oak cracks to easy, just use selected hardwoods, whats the answer, dave 1927 moon 660 roadster 1931 devaux 675 sport coupe 1932 devaux 680 sport coupe
