  3. hello everyone the stude is a 6 cylinder champion with 3 speed and overdrive,has radio and heater but not any other options,i guess ill go pick it up this summer,,when i asked about the car i wasnt meaning value but if it where a quality built car, i know it was in the low price field,but some low price cars are less troublesome than the high end vehicles,i think ill get it home clean it up and paint it,just enjoy it and try and have some good memories,how are these cars to get parts for, thankd to everyone, dave
  4. hell everyone late last year my father passed away at 85 years old,since the mid seventies hes been living in montana,in the late sixties he bought a 1951 studebaker starlite coupe,he rebuilt the engine and trans brakes tires etc while he lived in so calif,when he moved to montana he put the stude on stands in his workshop and i dont believe its been started or touched since,i remember it was a very straight and rust free car,the car has been passed down to me now,what im trying to find out is are these cars worth restoring, not financially where they quality cars or just a p.o.s.,has some sentimental value but dont want to restore something ill never enjoy,im mainly into late 20s early 30s cars so this is not really anything i know about, as i remember the car was a light green with gray interior,will have to go to montana to trailer it back to southern calif,as always thanks to everyone for there help dave

  6. hello barry nice to talk to you again, i have a 32 devaux sports coupe,its been in sorage for abut 7 years now,i bought it out of illinois,the owner had owned it since 1951,the car is very rough but it is restorable and i didnt want to see it get junked, parted out or street rodded,it is a late production model,no real options,i dont know when continental took over devaux but it may very well be a continental devaux, in 31 they said hall on the motor the 32 i have doesnt have that,the hood latch is gone for 32 they have 1 handle only,also tailight brkt step plate an instruments are different,my 31 has a cloth covered roof while the 32 is all steel,will continue to look for a 32 cabriolet,i heard of 1 in south or central america,they had contacted some folks about parts but i couldnt get any info on who owned it some folks dont wish to give up any info but thats ok ill keep looking and 1 will turn up ,i also am always looking for parts and literature,good luck on your search will keep looking for both, dave
  7. hello everyone for a long time ive been searching for a 32 devaux cabriolet convertible, i keep hearing stories but when i follow up its always just a story,i know theres 2 in michigan 1 at the museun and the other owned by mtron cummings, some body out here must know of 1 setting in an old collection,or just knows of 1 and keeping it to himself,also heard stories of a 31 phaeton,but i cant even find a picture of such a car,any help would be appreciated, looking for and unrestored any condition example cant someone help, just dave

  9. thanks everyone for the replys,i believe the average guy can restore a brass car with a certain amount of automotive knowledge,as said i believe on every resto you gain more and more knowledge,i have a couple of early thirties cars waiting to be worked on now as well as a 27 moon roadster,i have mainly restored 30s cars,muscle cars and a couple of indian motorcycles,but ive always liked early brass cars,and since where not getting any younger i thought now might be the time to dig 1 up ,all help is appreciated and ill let everyone know what happens thanks dave,
  10. hello everyone i have been watching the 1912 overland on ebay,ive been looking for a brass project car for awhile that i could afford,this one seems to have no action on it yet,is there anyone with overland knowledge,what questions should i ask,its in my state but quite aways away,to far to inspect and not buy,is there anything i should know about these cars befoire i try and cut a deal,lookin for someone with brass car knowledge that could help out, thanks dave
  11. helloo i was growing up in so calif in the late 50s and 60s,doc schaeffer was a dentist as i remember,his collection was like barney pollards,he was able to find cars everywhere,he saved many cars from the scrap drive of world war 2,i believe he was in redlands calif,i met doc in the early sixties at an antique car swapmeet,i was about 12 or 13 years old,i had drug a 1 cylinder motorcycle motor out of an old dump and had it for sale,doc was probably in his late 70s or early 80s then,doc as i remember gave me 5.00 for the motor but with the five dollars came along as part of the deal was i had to take it to his car and put it in the trunk,hay 5.00 was alot then,i guess doc was quite shrewd, somewhere i remember seeing a picture of a gathering he had at his ranch farm in 1938 or 1939,a real colorful old guy, i believe alot of people where jealous of his collection, dave
  12. hello everyone has any one seen the 1911 international highwheeler on ebay,what is this, is it a truck, a car or what,i dont need another old car but it looks like a fun project,its about a hundred miles from my place and was thinking about going to look at it,any thing to look for to idenify if i go look at it,on the fence right now,i know if i look at it and the price is right id probably drag it back,m ust be some kind of junk disease i have, dave
  13. wow that flyer open car looks really great,even though the body was australian built it would look good across the pond,i have some friends in australia and they send me photos from time to time of some really great cars,also seems like there not afraid to undertake a tough resto, (bernie) looks like a continental convertible may appear afterall, hope so,also everyone keep there eye open for a devaux open car at this point i dont care if its american or from oz,or south america or where ever,help find one, barry good luck with the continental just dave

  16. hello bomba, the rivieras are both very straight,no rust that ive seen floor pans,trunk pans,rockers ,qtrs all seem to be great and rust free,the nicest of the 2 cars is very good body wise the other the lt qtr has checking, i dont know if its lacquer chk or old body repair,you can call me at 909 918 7171 if you have any questions dave, sorry about the delay

  18. hello barry, im glad your not giving up,ive studied the continental,because of it being so close to my devauxs,i believe there was a roadster made and i dont think just 1 if they survived well im sure theres 1 some where,we cant wait for it to appear we have to shake the bushes,ive been searching for the infamous devaux phaeton for years,i chk every picture of every desert car and every barn find,someday either a phaeton or a cabriolet will appear,keep hunting and keep the people talking it will appear,may be an australian car out there, or south american,alot of inexpensive vehicles where exported,you may try and find a south american dealer who will look for you,just keep trying and best of luck dave enrico so calif, 1931 devaux, 1932 devaus,
  19. happy thanksgiving everyone i have 2 rivieras a 63 and a 64 ,both project cars,63 has no engine trans hood or grille,64 has engine and trans engine apart and in trunk,no hood or grille,1500 each or will part out,located in so calif, believe both caif black cars dave

  21. hello steve thanks for the info,i figured being an assembeled vehicle there was other vehicles with the same sheetmetal,i have a 32 devaux 3 window coupe and after viewing pictures of a 33 durant coupe i believe the sheetmetal is the same except the grille shell,im just trying to find a devaux cabriolet, just not sure how many where made,if it was only 3 then ive got to stop looking.
  22. hello everyone does anyone have any info or production figures on hayes body corp for 1931 and 1932, im trying to find info on 31 and 32 devaux bodies,im trying to find out how many convertibles where made and infact if a phaeton was ever made,the bodies where made by hayes i dont know if the phaeton was just and advertisement or a prototype,i know of 3 cabriolets but am trying to figure how many where actually made in the cabriolet and phaeton,i believe all where michigan based vehicles,as always thanks for all help dave
