  14. this is really a tough call, paints are extremely different today,i have ran collision repair shops for over 25 years before thein i painted and did metal work,a perfect match ive never seen, theres something wrong with everything, paints are tough, first try an figure what product was originally used,in so calif we can no longer use enamels, acrylic enamels laquers or acrylic laquers, when refinishing a newer car with 2 stage paint we can no longer use acrylic urethane but now we half to use water base with a solvent clear coat,so matching is tough, most older vehicles with original paint is a single stage system, usually depending on what the vehicle is,gm used laquers, ford and chrysler liked enamels, many things will change the end result ,from the color of your primer,to your base coat color, from air pressure to weather conditions, good luck not impossible just tough dave
  15. am possibly intrested in the durants,if you could e mail me pitures & info including prices an where vehicles are, dave
  16. ACADEMY ST IS FERNDALE BUT NOBODY WANTED TO ADMIT LIVING IN FERNDALE,SO WE ALL CALLED IT ROYAL OAK
  17. hello many years ago when i first started doing metal work,we used these files for pick an file or metal finishing, this was the late sixties, the plastic fillers where coming in very strong at that time and we where using less and less files,we had a man who picked up the file blades an sharpened them for a buck a piece, after he went south no more vixen files and no more lead floaters,,after taking a machine shop course we found bead blasting the blades made them real sharp, usually using glass but im sure sand will work just fine
  18. as i stated in an earlier post, i grew up in royal oak michigan on academy st until i was about 8 or 9 then moved to calif, they had ice cream trucks in calif but my fondest memory was in michigan,i remember going to visit my grandma and grandpa in morgantown west virginia, and i remember missing the ice cream man,the ones in west virginia just werent the same, i will be retiring some time in the next 10 years and if the economy picks up i just may look for a place back in michigan, calif is just getting to damn expensive dave 1927 moon 1931 devaux 1932 devaux
  19. i also grew up in michigan,( royal oak), and i remember frank the good humor man,i remember if you stepped off the curb youd get no ice cream from him,i remember the humid nights waiting to hear the bell from the ice cream truck,i remember talking to my dad later about frank and he told me frank would go down to florida with the ice cream truck during the winter and come back to michigan in summer, what great days

  24. dean i was asking about the color of the car and where it was from ,because as a kid an older friend of my dads taught me about restoration work, he had a 1928 lincoln locke body touring car, it was from southern calif an was ivory with black fenders,at the time it was really beautiful, had original paint on body an original interior, i remember it had massive wire wheels, the gentlemans name was Harold Hoe, he passed away in the middle 70s and i never knew what happened to the car,i thought it went to a lincoln museum in missouri but no one seems to know
