  1. Matt; Let me get with John Steed on that.. If it is in electronic form, it will be easy to do, if not it will take a bit more effort to digitize it and post it. I will get back to you on that.
  2. I don't agree with how you worded your first sentence. Am I being picky? Not according to a bleep that was published in the BUGLE, maybe in the early-1990s, that addressed exactly what you just printed. I'll try to find that BUGLE one of these days. Al: I do think you are being picky. The intent in judging is not to try and replicate the car exactly as that particular car rolled off the line, but it is meant to be totally correct for a 19--XYZ . WE have never looked at trim and and color codes on data plates while judging. The original build sheets are not available for early cars, so there is no need to hold the owner to that level of correctness for their car. It matters not to a judge, what options a car has as long as they are correct. Cadillacs ,for instance, are different. he build sheet on my '41 Caddy tells what options it had as well as options , etc. All that said , there are a few changes in the judges manual, such as deductions for the black replacement engines on prewar cars. The new judges manual are hard bound binders with replacement pages. We do not have a lot of them, and it is still a document in flux. At Denver we gave them out to the team captains, and asked for them back at the end of judging. Chief Judge John Steed may have some extras. You could contact him and request one.
  3. The standard used in judging by the BCA 400 point system is that the car should look as it did "when it left the factory" As the supply of NOS parts has dried up, most of us have to resort to repro parts. If they look correct, you will not be penalized (lose points). Many cars lose point for easily fixed items such as the wrong caps on tire / tube and wrong bolts, non Delco battery , voltage regulator . Those are things to look for before showing a restored car.
  4. I have been involved with helping long time BCA member Bob Bolduc list part of his collection at Harrisburg. His cars are the '68 GS , the Buick Regal T type, The 79 Riv t type, The 81 Riv, the 63 Skylark, the 75 Riv GS and the 61 LeSabre con. The LeSabre is a totally original low milage unmolested car. with factory top , interior, parade boot and chrome. It had a repaint several years ago. Really worth a look for a nice car.
  5. Just as an FYI, Brooklin has discontinued most if not all of their Buick Collection models. These are high quality 1/43 scale ranging from 1933 to 1939. I am phasing out as a Brooklin dealer, but still have some of these in stock. I will be letting these go at cost. If interested, please PM me.
  6. Bob's Automobilia lists a kit ti fit the fifty. Just bought one form them for my '38. Jack
  7. Barney, that looks like a Century? If so nd you do decided to sell it and I have found a taker for my 40 Limited, maybe we can chat.
  8. Could have been, Ben, but i had driven two hundred miles to get there, the day before , i have I have a good charging system and battery. Not quite sure what it was, but with points, I can always get it running , no matter what. Jack
  9. I had a Petronix system in my '40 Limited and one cold morning on a tour, it would not start. No spark. I had to flat bed it home and the minute the temperature warmed up a bit it ran fine. Looks like they have a problem with both heat and cold. I switched back to points and it runs just fine.
  10. We were able to combine a lot of classes this year. Usually the number of volunteers to judge is a fairly standard percentage of registrants, so it usually works out. This year we were able to have teams of a captain and four judges per class. It very seldom works out that well. BTW, love some of your suggestions about judging possibilities at Charlotte.
  11. There were well over 50 judges at Denver. We had the use of at least 4 golf carts. Three of those were used to shuttle members to and from the show filed . Many of our members have reached an age where, they need walking assists, such as canes, walkers, electric carts, etc. I had a dedicated cart for judging as head judge. I used this to respond to judging issues on the show field, as well as delivering water to judging teams and show participants. When I did not need it for those functions, it was used for shuttle service. Bottom line is that golf carts are very handy and very expensive.
  12. Pete: This was a test for all together parking. One of the problems we did encounter was the size of the Archival Class. As Head judge, I will take the responsibility for part of your problem. I some how thought I I think I missed seeing one of Roy's class breakdown sheets) we had six cars in your class, when in fact we had 23. We have a year to work out details before next year's Meet to resolve this problem. One thought John Steed and I had was splitting the archival in to more than one class. Again, luckily we have a year to come up with a solution. You are totally correct about heat and age of our membership. The other classes had 7 to 9 cars and I had to remove a judge from the field due to heat and altitude issues.
  13. Missed getting it out his weekend, but the '38 and I just returned from a 40 mile trip on a 90 deg day. Not sure if I had some vapor lock issues or not, the car kept running, but sputtered a few times. Good news is that the temp gauge never went over 180 deg F and we arrived home with issue. The summer is too short here in New England .
  14. I started this thread to give members a chance to post about the Denver National, It is disappointing that nothing here has mentioned, the great job the Denver folks did, the tours attended, the beautiful cars in attendance. etc
  15. Mr Earl's job is hard enough, he is a volunteer and certainly does not need / deserve this
  16. Brian Depouli had a great start with that on his thread about helpful members. The problem is that there are some who would rather just rant than have fun discussions. The BCA Director's forum may have some merit, but several BOD members stay away from this forum just to try and keep a positive attitude about Club Business. Members should feel good that finances are in good order with sufficient reserves, the Bugle has never been better , we are having Chapters step up to host National Meets. The Club is in fine shape , and yet we have all this bickering. As they say, we have met the enemy and it is us
  17. Matt: For the most part nobody has even cared about them in the three years , that i have been on the committee. If you or anyone else has interest in them, just email me or drop me a note via snail mail with your BCA number and let me know which month or year, that you are interested in and I will send you out a copy.. Bob Safrit has been our secretary for the last few years and Roy Faries is our incoming Secretary. I have to warn you, they are about as boring as it gets, with details of hammering out hotel contracts, parking issues with hotels , cost of banquets , costs of tours, hotel negotiations, et al.
  18. Larry: if you feel that way, since you are a BOD member, I would advise you to ask Alan to put it as a line item on the next BOD agenda. It is currently recorded in the minutes of the NMC meetings. AS NMC Chair, I am quite comfortable with the way it is being done now, as the money is being accounted for and records kept. The profit to the BCA line item does go to the BCA financial report.
  19. Matt: I am not sure going forward, how the duties will be split between treasurer and CFO, if we will still retain a CFO. I know it was discussed at the BOD meeting in Denver, but with out seeing the actual Minutes, I can not answer that at this time. I do know that Bill is still handling the questions about the Club's finances prior to Denver, and I can also say that the BOD and Bill appreciate that the sooner we can get these in to the Bugle , the better it will be for all.
  20. Larry: The National Meets are a totally separate issue from overall finances. The entire structure of the way they are financed and how the income (if there is any) is distributed has been an evolutionary process. I will do my best to explain how we on the National Meet Committee view it at present. Years ago the National Meets were run by the Chapters and the profit or loss was theirs . As the cost of running meets increased and the membership aged, it was tougher to find Chapters willing to host a National Meet. The potential for a financial disaster as well as the unkown portions of running a Meet also became an issue. The National Meet Committee was established. This committee has evolved from actually running meets to providing assistance to Chapters or regions willing to host a meet. The NMC has come up with an option, (soon to be an SOP) for the BCA to guarantee the host Chapter will not actually lose any money if the meet goes awry. The NCM has an account within the BCA funds to finance a National Meet , with all invoices and expenses paid by the BCA CFO and at the end of the event. The profits (if there are any) are split 50 / 50 by the host Chapter and the Chapters providing volunteers to run the Meet, and the BCA. (actually to the NMC account) .None of the recent National Meets have been large money makers, but the host Chapters and the NMC have had the opportunity to provide an enjoyable experience for BCA attendees. Denver being an example of that. All of the bill for Denver are not in yet, so It is not known if Denver will be financially profitable or not yet. But is was a wonderful event for all the attended and that is what matters.
  21. Matt: I looked at the link , that you sent and it appears that the entity that had it's exemption revoked was OH, not CA, where the BCA isles has it's charter . I am guessing that the entity that had its m=not profit revoked may have been the stock room part of the BCA, which as a retailer could be subject to tax in some form. AS you know, I am a new BOD member, but I am happy to do some digging for you and get an answer. Our Non profit status is as a social club. I am not sure why you have not had any response re: financial condition.
  22. One thing that does seems to be running through these threads is name calling and false statements about current and past BOD members, it is some of the most irresponsible and rude behavior I have ever seen on a forum. A forum is to discuss pertinent issues, and does not give license to say anything you want about BCA Members wether they be BOD members, judges or just members art large. You can disagree with people and there are ways to do that. To not show respect to people that you do not even know is outrageous. I can not imagine what people from outside the BCA must think when they see this drivel. Some of it from anonymous posters.
  23. John: I don't know if I should pity you or me at this point , as It looks like I will be taking on a challenge here.
  24. No, I was a member in attendance during the meeting and posted what I remember hearing , as has been said several times , it should be clearer once minutes have been published , rather than relying on one's memory and hearing in a crowded room. I have not ever been a member of the Prewar Division , so I have no inside info to share.
