Ted,

The Judging school in Binghamton is scheduled for 2:00 PM. on Friday.

I'm don't think that the Friday Bus tours will be back in time for Judging

School.

Tours will probably be back at the hotel around 3:00 P.M.

Sorry,

F Y I Last week a contractor diging near or in the parking lot of a local watering hole discovered a under ground hiden room. In the room where whisky kegs a funell a long forgoten pully system and lots of bottles and jugs. The tavern was owned since thw 20s by a tough old girl (grand daughters discription))and was the source for shoild we say probation refreshments. Please be sure that nothing found in that room will be served at our Fri. night speek easy.

Now being a cop in Wilmington, is this story fact or fiction??

With the history of rum runners in the south, you have me wondering??

If the grandmother was a tough old girl, what was her son's name??

Junior Johnson???

98, the curant bar is only about 5min. from our fri. night get togather. Maby I should put togather a quick tour. Ill bet the new owner would oblige us. I sucked a lot of suds in that place. Course I was a lot younger

X98th, Thanks for the link. The first link asked me to purchase from an archive (and since I am the Cop in Wilmington NC) I was too cheap to pay to read it.

But, I am sure that NY has nothing on NC. We have lots of places that served a lot of alcohol back in the day. (And yes, Nascar started here with bootleggers )

I think back in the late 60's they found a trap door in a ticket booth at a race track in Georgia that led down to a monnshine still. This is what got me to thinking.

MC, I got you confused with someone else as being the Wilmington cop. Sorry about that. I've been to Wilmington on several occassions over the last 20 years, but I don't even know where the Wilmington PD is located, let alone being a cop down there.

The Friday Evening Event at Binghamton should be a lots of fun.

We're holding a Friday night Speak-Easy Party.

It will be held at the Night Eagle Cafe on Chenango Street in Binghamton.

Admission is $30 per person. Includes music by the Parlor City Six.

A 6 piece band featuring Dixieland Music and Jazz from the 20's and 30's.

By the way the band has a great Tuba player.

There will be room to dance!

Dinner is included in the price.

Be sure to wear you zoot suit, and have the gals wear their flapper dress.

Also planned is a group of Flapper Dancers in costume.

Chenango Street in from ot the Cafe will be closed and a cruise-in event

will take place culminating in a dusk gas light parade around the streets of Binghamton.

This is also in the heart of the Art district in Binghamton.

There are numerous Art Galleries that will be open as well as street vendors.

By the way this is only two city blocks from the host hotel.

Are you talking about Rochester, New York (GVACS Region??). If you are referring to that group, I'm one of them, and I don't believe that my father sent his entry blank in yet, so you have at least one more vehicle. We'll be staying down across from BCC (where I thought the show was going to be), on Saturday night after the awards, we're loading back up and heading to Utica for the Fountain Elms Invitational (concourse).

We should be there Friday morning by 10 at the latest.

Well Dick, look for the old Ford fire truck from Canandaigua, NY (that spent 29 years protecting the properties where the 1975 Glidden Tour, and 1990 AGNM hosted by GVACS were held). We had the truck at Hershey, but the restoration on the fire truck was so fresh that we never had the time to have it rubbed out, pinstriped and lettered prior to the show. At Hershey, we were still buying parts for the truck on Wednesday and Friday and spent all day Thursday and a lot of Friday night putting the truck together before the Hershey meet. Despite all of that, we managed to pull a First Junior on a truck that back on July 4, 2006 only had the cab on the frame, and everything else on the truck was still untouched from 1942. Needless to say we ran so short on time that we never had time to go to DMV to get the plates for the fire truck. To our good fortune, the Derry Township Police was too busy to do anything about it.

Unless something happens between now and the show, we should be able to have the truck rubbed out, striped, and lettered and have everything done to the level that it should be done at. There usually aren't too many old Ford fire trucks that show up at a national meet, so even if we still don't have time to get the truck lettered, I should be easy to find. If you can't find me, my dad will be there with the '37 Plymouth pickup. That's also not too common of a vehicle so he should be easy to find as well. At any rate, one, if not both of us, will be at either vehicle. With the fire truck going for a Senior and the pickup going for a Repeat Preservation, the emphasis will be placed on the fire truck.

We'll also be there for Judging School and the roundtable.

Make that about 32. We entered our pickup online this morning, and already dropped our entry blank off at the post office. Our Region President also plans to bring his Chrysler there as well, and as of Sunday afternoon, has yet to enter his car either.

You should see a pretty good representation from GVACS.

Mike,

If you just printed your card and get it in the mail real soon, I Gatantee that it will be recieved in time. It'd be a shame for you to miss a National Show only a couple of miles from home!

By the way, any of you that have been procrastinating, now is the time.

Still plenty of room on the show field at Binghamton University.

We could also use some more judges.

Ex98 if your reading this in ans to your ? I think at this time there are 3 trucks reg. counting you Speedies are cooking!!!!

This looks to be a great meet and it is fabulous that so many people are coming out to our events this year. However, you guys are the most procrastinating group of people I have ever seen! Almost two hundred registrations in the last two weeks!! I am tearing what's left of my hair out trying to find enough trophies but at this late date we will be short, sorry. We planned for 400 cars this meet and obviously did not know how important speedies were to all of you!

Steve, if you have to pull your hair out, just pull the gray ones .

As for procrastinating, we're not that bad. Our Hershey registrations were sent out over a week ago, and the Binghamton registration was sent out in April.

We missed the boat on Hershey back in 2001 and couldn't get registered in AUGUST

so we learned our lesson the hard way. Now we enter everything online, print it, write the check, and it's gone.

Thanks for the offer but between a vacation trip and the changes to the message board I lost track of the thread (search couldn't find it) till just now. I found out a couple of days ago I could camp on campus for $30 and sent in my money the last day they were taking reservations.

Free would have been better, oh well.
