Who's going to Carlisle next week?

We'll make sure to stop and visit a few minutes! Three of us Southside Vajenyans are leaving here around 0800 next Wednesday. We stay in Gettysburg to avoid the avaricious Carlisle hotel rates, so we're going to do our annual Gettysburg Battlefield pilgrimage Wednesday afternoon and then we'll be at the swap meet Thurs-Sat.

Work did us out of the Spring show last year, and Spring Charlotte this year, so we are all about to bust to get loose in a swap meet !

Have never been and don't guess we'll make it this year but want to plan for it next year. We made the Charlotte Spring event and it was awesome. First time for me and my son to any meet of that size. Did the Moultry GA event and it was ok but the Charlotte was realy nice, beautiful weather and all. How does the Carlisle compare to Charlotte.

Going up Friday and will try to stop by. Received a email from a friend today who located a part that I have been looking for. Its nice to live so close to Carlisle. grin.gif

Rocketraider, you are only 1/2 hour away (from Carlisle) from the civil war museum located in Harrisburg. It is worth while in my opinion.

I will be there Friday through Sunday. I live only 15 minutes away when there is no show (the traffic in town on show weekends is horrible!). I will stop by and say hello!

Rocktraider, with all the outside fields now at Charlotte it is fast approaching the number of spaces at Hershey! I am sure they have more cars in the car corral using the track and the outside driveway, I just don't think the Carlisle show can find any more space. With 8000 spaces it's all you can do to cover it in one day, let alone look at the cars in the car corral. As of last year they call Wednesday the opening day, I was not up there on Wednesday last year... So I don't know how many venders were selling on Wednesday. I will be at the spaces Wednesday- Saturday, this year.

MrEarl, Keep one other thing in mind, since you are coming up from the south, the temps may be nothing like Charlotte. It could be 35 degrees in the morning with a 10 mph wind, Burrrr. Other years you could see 70's by noon. Lets hope the tent is for shade!

Ron and Joe, I look forward to meeting you both. Karl

I've made most of the spring/fall Carlisle swap meets since my first in 1978. It is well worth attending, but like Hershey in that if something's still there after the first day it's because it's not worth what it costs. Thursday and Friday are the days to go. I ususally find Carlisle the best place to buy literature and tools rather than antique parts. These days it tends to be a giant flea market for Summit Racing item.

It is a great place to sell a car! If you have a reasonable price on your vehicle it'll sell in a matter of hours. I once sold a '69 Coronet there and had to hold an impromptu action among 3 buyers after parking the car and having dinner (wound up selling it for $300 over my asking price)! You have to get it on site, however. I've tried to sell outside the gate and it just doesn't happen out there.

Also, if you don't mind a little walking and drive a little on secondary routes and adjacent exits you can avoid a lot of the exit traffic. And there is a KFC a block from Gate 1, so you don't have to eat the crap food on site! tongue.gif

I'm skipping Carlisle this year to make it to Import Carlisle next month. See you there! cool.gif

We also need to stop by the Museum of Civil War Medicine in Frederick MD sometime on a Carlisle trip. We travel up US 29 and 15 and it's on the way. Booey on I-81. It's a road full of crazy people from MD on down into VA. Gimme a federal or state highway any day.

True, Carlisle is limited by its real estate, but it's easier to navigate than Charlotte. You get off in the turn radii of the Charlotte infield and you can never be sure which aisle you just came out of and which one is next .

We're well aware of Carlisle weather! Went up one year and it was 70 and sunny here. When we arrived about noon Thursday there was 6" of snow on the showgrounds! But the next morning, they were spreading straw on the mud and by 10 am it was like the snow had never been there- Carlisle was WAO! Seems I remember about the only vendor open that snowy Thursday was the Bumper Boyz...

And, who are you calling Crazy!? Oh, was that your car I ran off the road last week? Sorry! Wayne

Hey Wayne-o -- Seems like a trucker of all people would know I-81 is full of crazy drivers!

But the craziest had to be the woman on I-85 between Charlotte and Salisbury who was passing on the median or shoulder half the time. Running 85+ in a K-car. Very few times I have actually been afraid in traffic, but that ditz scared me.

Glenn....sounds like K for Kalamity! But it does not sound odd at all to me. I grew up driving Route 1 and the Surekill Expressway in Philly. I think it would have been safer on the old Langhorne Speedway...and more fun.

I sure do miss those late night rides through old Bucks County though. Lovely old roads, tree lined and absolutely beautiful in the moon light. sigh. Funny old place...I miss it a lot.

Hey Karl- My fall Carlisle spaces are M 74/75 so I know the neighborhood well. I'll stop by and say Hi for sure - Im in P36/37 in Springtime - will probably be shopping Thursday and selling Friday/Sat depending on the weather. Im about the only guy there anymore with brass era trinkets or Model T stuff.

Howdy,

I set up as a temp vendor not having spaces... I like it back by the interstate as that's where they put all the new folks with all the good cheep stuff.... yee haw. Can't say for sure I'll even get a space or two but somehow I always do.

I've got a new truck loaded with gaspumps, oil racks, and hubcaps and a ton of other bargains... check out my new wheels... well they are vintage 1966...

Terry, Stop by for sure. I am also wondering how much pre-WWII stuff to bring along. It has been a long time since I sold at Carlisle. I know I don't need the practice putting stuff in and out of crates! I have seen more "old cars" for sale in the last few years so I am hoping the crowd stops for a look at my stuff because it's mainly 50's back too. The forecast does not sound good from Wednesday on... Oh well, I'll have the tent. Karl
