1918 Cadillac 57, not mine.

Recommended Posts

I believe this car was listed in January of 2023 for $37500. The not very helpful pictures from that post are no longer available, but much like the current ad, everyone agreed much more information (and a lower price) as needed.

I like it.  Only issue is here it's not fun cruising at 40 mph to Sedona...

Those who experienced 1918 Cadillacs first-hand

would disagree that 40 m.p.h. or more is unattainable

or not enjoyable!  An older friend of mine wrote

extensively in our AACA newsletter.

He bought his car used in 1939 and owned it for 84 years,

until his passing just last year.  He drove it as his REGULAR

CAR for more than 20,000 miles before World War II,

even up and down the East coast.  He had the speed

up to an indicated 75 m.p.h., which he said was actually

65 to 70 m.p.h.  Here's a picture I took.  He's in his

late 90's and just finished driving us around for a tour:

Having driven a 1918 Cadillac previously owned for many, many years by a local friend,

I can personally assure that modern highway and touring speeds are quite attainable.

As with most vintage cars, one could easily outdrive the braking system,

but as he drove a level stretch of open road, my iPhone GPS showed in excess of 75 mph,

and the car had the torque to hold good speed even on what few hills we encountered.

60 mph actually seemed surprisingly comfortable at the time.

I recently had the opportunity to buy the car but already have a full garage and my 1915 SIX-40 Hudson fits Brass-Era touring and seems capable of all we can use.

Also shouldn't it be a black top?

Tan canvas is an appropriate era selection.

From 1918 Cadillac type 57 owner's manual. Looks like the top is light or "tan" colored.

Thanks everyone.  1918 has always had a soft spot with me.  They're pretty and owning one would be a nice ad with my 59.  If I can enquire whats the ballpark on these for a good, clean, and 100% example?

I own a 1918 type 57. I will guarantee you mine won’t do over 40 miles an hour. I takeoff in second gear unless I’m on a hill. It has all original upholstery and top. It had a repaint in 1960 from the green to 1946 Chevy blue. I would like to find a different set of gears so I could do 50 mph with out the engine turning 3000 rpm. Anyone know what gears I could put in.                                                       Jim
