MASONER
HI I am trying to identify my grandfathers car, we believe it might be a Dodge Any views much appreciated
41 Su8
Looks like a 7 passenger. I don't think Dodge ever made a 7 passenger car.
Mark Wetherbee
Much bigger than a Dodge. It has a lot of similarities to a mid-late teens Cadillac but I could not match it exactly but 1916 looks closest in the pictures I’ve looked through.
58L-Y8
Matches the 1919-1921 Cadillac Type 59 seven passenger touring. Outside coach-ring door handles appeared on the later of the year span.
MASONER
Thanks very much The troble for me is that because I cant see the front, usually the lights, Rad and filler/mascot are a good clue to the maker
MASONER
The other idea I had, could it be a coach body based on a Citroen AC6

rocketraider
Any idea where the picture was taken? Driver looks East Indian. Possibly sometime during the Raj?
MASONER
Yes you are correct The Driver is Singh, my grandfathers chauffeur, it was a well paid job and he had a high status by local employemnt standards. the location is Puducherry, so its French India until 1954. The residency is now a museum and my son who works in India gave them lots of photos of the era between the wars, The chief curator was gracious and grateful for the material that my son left them for their historical displays. 2
