This 1955 DeSoto Firedome is just what you have been looking for. The prefect auto show car, one that is ride and drive ready. The 1955 DeSoto Firedome comes with a Hemi V-8 that produces a top speed of 164km/h and real blazing 0-60 at 13.1. It burns the track up at 1/4mile drag time of 19.1 and this baby still gets a whopping 15.1 miles to gallon. Yet she looks really good while she's getting there. I always wanted a dragster; here's my chance.

 

Per the seller, it tops out at 101.9 mph (164 km) and takes 13.1 seconds to reach 37.28 mph (60 km/h).

All of that with wide whitewalls, hubcaps, and 500,000 miles under its belt!

Must be the karma given by the fuzzy dice ... or the weight reduction due to not having a radio or a arm rest pad.

 

Strange that all that high speed driving hasn't blown the dry leaves off the back end.

A manual shift '55 DeSoto!!!  An overdrive was optional for $108, adding one to this car would make it ideal!

Chrome is looking pretty thin on those bumpers but I just sent away a '55 DeS Firedome sedan parts car that ran and drove with a Powerflite 2 speed automatic (but zero interior). ANY STICK SHIFT RUNNING HEMI car is a rare rare, almost hen's tooth car. This looks very desirable to me at this price.

First manual 55 I have ever seen. A manual 56 did turn up out here in WA a couple of years ago. Very unusual to find a stickshift in a Desoto from this period.

That block out plate on the dash for the automatic trans shifter has to almost be one of a kind.

I might be in the minority here but I'm just not seeing the attraction to this very overhyped faded red 1955 DeSoto sedan at all. OK it's a rather unusual stick shift car but it's still a base Firedome model that has little else going for it. Seller states it's a fixer-upper that still needs a lot of love for $6800 but as a buyer that's not exactly what I want to hear. I'd think a better-optioned (AT, PS, PB, radio, etc.) 1955 or 1956 Fireflite sedan with the more attractive traditional Desoto ColorSweep mouldings would be more desirable to most collectors. A 1956 model would be an upgrade over a 1955 with it's 330 Hemi engine and 12 volt electrical system so I'm offering this recent sold Ebay listing of a ready to drive & enjoy 1956 DeSoto that was restored in 2011 just for comparative purposes. Which car would you rather have? I'd prefer the 1956 especially at that selling price. Just sayin'.
