AACA Fallbrook branch car show at Bates Nut Farm today.

I went to AACA Fallbrook Car Show today at Bates Nut Farm.  This show used to be at the Fallbrook Golf Course just off the I-15, which was much easier to drive to!  Before that it was at the Fallbrook High School.  I've been going to this car show since the 80s, and it has changed a lot.  The swap meet part used to have many vendors selling NOS parts for many makes of cars, but now it's mostly knick knacks and fast food vendors.  The current location is good with lots of space, but a challenge to get to with some mountainous curvy roads.  This year's show was better than last year's with more antique autos on the show field.  These owners must go to great expense and effort to deliver some of these cars to the farm.  The show is free to spectators and has free parking.  I'm glad I went today.

I have a special fondness for this car in the first four pics.  My dad said he bought his first car when he was a teenager in 1936 for $20.  It was a Model T Depot Hack!  Next a rare electric car.  Who ever heard of a car run with batteries!

The black convertible coupe with the maroon top is a 1922-'29 Rolls-Royce Twenty.  Companion to the first Silver Ghost, then New Phantom. They were a small OHV 190.9ci six-cylinder, 129" wb.  It was an effort to compete with other premium English carmakers, to fulfill the growing demand for smaller, yet still high-quality motorcars.

I had a long talk with the Rolls Royce owner.  He said he had 50K just in the paint job!  And it looked it!  The car was truly flawless.  I asked him about the horizontal louvers in the grille, which I have not seen before.  The car is a 1926 model.  He said Rolls Royce made the chassis and then the buyer took it to a coach builder to build the body to the customers wants.

Beautiful car, but I am not surprised at all about the price of the paint.
