John_S_in_Penna
Here's a question for forum goers: With the splits in the cloth seats, would you have the seats reupholstered, or appreciate the worn originality? Would you reupholster both front and rear, to eliminate having one new seat next to a faded old one? Assuming you could get the correct fabric, of course. 1957Birdman
Reupholster both seats. Anything less is wearing a tuxedo with brown shoes. Lew Bachman 1957 Thunderbird 1
deac
I think you would have to reupholster both seats; the difference would bee too noticeable.

avgwarhawk
Reupholstering one seat is like painting two of four walls. It does not look right.
58L-Y8
The ribbed nylon material was notorious for sunlight fading which can be seen comparing the seating surfaces to the folded down armrest. It also split along those ribs even in cars with relatively light use. Select a quality black material of similar appearance and re-upholster all seats for a proper job.
John_S_in_Penna
I would reupholster both seats, so they would both look new. I would save a piece of the original upholstery material--maybe the unfaded portion behind the armrest--to document history. I would hope the current authentic fabric available might be more durable; but I would certainly ask about durability before buying it.

I see your point, Bryan: Collectors won't be giving the car nearly as much use as the original owners did. Rivguy
A lot of the seat materials will breakdown rapidly if the car is driven again. The foam rubber cushions will turn to dust, the seat fabric will start to tear, and the thread will deteriorate. I had a '56 Cadillac with a beautiful backseat that had been covered by a clear plastic cover. I removed the yellowed cover and started to use the car, the seat started to fall apart before my eyes. Leather might stand up better if it's been maintained. I'm not criticizing the quality of Cadillac's upholstery, it was just old.

John_S_in_Penna
Thank you for the update, Steve. It's always helpful to see whether cars are still available--and even better, when we can track the falling prices.
TexRiv_63
All Original - but new paint. Signs of massive water damage to the interior, what does it look like underneath? Price is still too high.
