erichill
Working on a 1919 Chandler that was disassembled when i got it. The differential cover is round with a fill hole. It could bolt on with the fill hole in the top half or lower half. Is it safe to assume it should be bolted on so that the fill hole is on the lower half of the cover? JFranklin
Place it so the gear oil doesn't migrate to the brakes when it is full.
Mark Gregush
Most covers would have the hole at the bottom half of the cover, which could be used to check the lube level in the rearend or to draw it out using a suction gun when changing if does not have a drain hole.

Oldtech
Disagree: most fillers are in lower half.
dictator27
Fill hole needs to be below the axle tube otherwise oil will flow out to brake linings.
29 Chandler
Eric can you post a picture? If it is the same as my 1914 Chandler I can help advise you.

Here you go. Pretty certain it goes opposite this photo and would be on the lower side. Our rear ends are probably the same. This has been one big puzzle fro me. 29 Chandler
Here you go Eric. The filler hole is on top in the front, second picture. You fill it with the plug in the cover removed and stop filling when the gear oil flows out the lower hole. Please let me know if you need any other photos!
