TimFX
Just wondering if anyone knows if there is asbestos in the sound deadening material that’s on the inside of all the body panels of my 1935 Oldsmobile. it is mostly original see pics
Bill Boudway
Most likely. Especially in or around the exhaust system parts, and all the friction material in the clutch and brakes. Bill B Certified asbestos handler (retired)
TimFX
This is material in the body panels, not in the engine bay or clutch and brake systems Under the headliner, behind the kick panels ect
TexRiv_63
To be safe you should assume it all contains asbestos unless you can actually test samples.

Bloo
Is that first picture from under the floor mat? Sure looks like natural jute to me, or maybe coconut.

Don Jr.
You can soak the pieces down with a water mister bottle before disturbing it while wearing a proper approved mask and paper suit. Very slowly pull the pieces and bag them. Dispose it as asbestos material. The danger to asbestos is the fryable dust that is released as you disturb it not the big chunks. That can get into your lungs as they look like little fish hooks. Your body then encapsulates these fibers to protect your lungs and you loose lung capacity. And yes as a dumb kid at a car dealership I blew the brake dust off myself too. Did not understand dangers back then but wiser now after courses on asbestos abatement training. Want to live long enough to become a problem to society!! Hope this helps.
