Car ID help and what’s happening to it?

Going through some stuff from my wife’s family we found these two photos.  So two questions on them. (1) what year /make is the car and (2) what in the world is he doing?  Question #2 looks like the bigger challenge.

I'm pretty sure it's a 1922 Chevy FB. Looks like he's trying to do some engine maintenance with the tools at hand.

It is a wood framed car after all...

The more I think about this though, I wonder how many people had the hand tools such as wrenches etc at the time that we all take for granted as being standard toolbox items today.

Sure does look like a Chevy.  My wife could not ID the person in the photo so we think it might be a cousin.  The saw stuck in the engine is my favorite tool in the photo.

Terry  my friend. Could it be possible that the saw is stuck there to keep the hood from falling down and  in while he was working on the motor and making things bounce/shake around while doing so?

Looks like a pry bar working on the front of the engine.  Two saws, and a framing square? not sure what they are doing?  Could the crank start handle be stuck on the engine?  I suppose the fan could have seized up?  (you had to oil those separate back then).

Not your typical tool box items, but necessity is the mother of invention!  Never thought of the saw being used as a hood stop.

What a great photo!  Looks like your typical carpenter trying to be a mechanic.  I’m sure similar displays are still being performed by carpenters today!  Almost looks like there’s another saw laying lengthwise on the hood.  Perhaps he’s trying to straighten a bent steering component or pop a suspension part back into place.  Whatever he’s doing he’s got the attention of the little chubby kid to the left who looks like he’s getting ready to throw a rock at the car.
