Pete Phillips
Friend came by this morning, asked what this electric motor is for and what it is called? 1997 LeSabre, at the right rear corner underneath the car. Motor is warm to the touch and he says it won't idle properly.
SpecialEducation
Looks like an air ride pump from here. https://www.gmpartsgiant.com/parts/gm-compressor-22153324.html?Make=Buick&Model=Lesabre&Year=1997&Submodel=&Filter=()&Location=level-control-system-automatic,,612940e1c3842947c9f9dd14490a131d Edited December 10, 2018 by SpecialEducation added link (see edit history)
Pete Phillips
That's what I thought it was, too, but he says the car doesn't have air ride. THey did put that on LeSabres in 1997, didn't they?
Ben Bruce aka First Born
I believe it is just air "leveling". Similar to the bags one can add to coil springs that come into use when ,say, hooking up a trailer. Ben
RivNut
Look at the RPO sticker for code G67 or G69. Those are the codes for continuous air leveling suspension, Std. and HD.

Well, if somebody took the air shocks out, that would explain why the motor runs all the time. lol The parts catalog says it’s available...
NTX5467
The ONLY motor in that part of the car is for the factory auto-leveling system. It should connect to a height sensor (the sensor/control will connect to a rear control arm by a thin, metal link rod), which then has a plastic tube that connects to each of the rear suspension's air struts/shocks. IF the air structs/shocks are not there any more, just unplug the motor. NTX5467
Daves1940Buick56S
Yup, my old '99 Ultra had the same thing. After I had the car about 6 yrs, something failed, probably the sensor, and the motor would not shut off! Of course it burned up in short order and I had to have the motor/sensor assy replaced. Cheers, Dave
