murrayjohn Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 I am trying to find the dates of use of this enamel Matheson Silent Six emblem. Can anyone help, please?
murrayjohn Posted January 17, 2018 Author Posted January 17, 2018 Have you seen this emblem on a 1908 Matheson Silent Six or on a photo?
TerryB Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 Type in Matheson silent six on eBay and you will see auto vintage advertisements for this car for sale. It seems the silent six tag line was in that time frame above and until 1912. Their last place of manufacture was Wilks Barre PA. The factory was then purchased for use by the Owen Magnetic automobile. Terry
A. Ballard 35R Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 The Silent Six was made from 1909 until 1912. The only car surviving is the one in the Nethercutt collection which was originally owned by Percy Colket of Strafford, Pa. and restored by Bob Laurens. I believe that the emblem you have came from a plaque made up by Bob many decades ago.
46 woodie Posted January 17, 2018 Posted January 17, 2018 According to the "Bible of Antique Cars", the Matheson Motor Car was produced between 1903 and 1912. The first six cylinder was produced in 1908 and rated at 48 HP. Less that 1000 six cylinder cars were made and a total of 1800 cars were built. At $7500 it's easy to see why they went out of business when Ford cars were selling for less than $1000.

Dave Mellor NJ Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 Here's some info on Matheson Co. but no picture of an emblem. I read that the "Silent Six" started in late '10 with the use of shaft drive http://www.american-automobiles.com/Matheson.html
edinmass Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 There is also another surviving car in Oaklhoma.
A. Ballard 35R Posted January 18, 2018 Posted January 18, 2018 Ed, the Oklahoma car is a very nice big four , as I recall.
5219 Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 The factory was in Forty Fort, PA, a suburb of Wilkes Barre. It is still standing today.
