1955 nailhead with ford trans adapter

Engine appears to be from a 56 Special.  The adapter is useless unless there is a flywheel, clutch and pressure plate  also.  It will mate to early Ford transmissions, but only the 4-speed spur gear truck trannys will hold up...the first time you apply full power in 2nd gear the 3-speeds will shell the cluster gear.

Is there anything that will hold a Nailhead besides the stock 3 speed or high torque truck box?

You would need a different (if available) adapter to use nearly any modern transmission.  Gotta remember those old Ford transmission were designed to handle only 80-100 hp. (even the 55 264 engine is 188 hp)

What do you mean "A" ??

Also I bought this motor, not sure why, it's like a drug addiction.  No worries, I didn't pay sticker price.  Also picked up another 56 322 4bbl with the dual exhaust and a dynaflow still attached (sorry guys I was greedy and didnt post that one here because I wanted those duals).   Looks like its time to find something to start dropping these motors in....

Hey Matt, dare I ask what 4bbl came with that 56 engine? :P

Make sure when you find a car to put it in, that you took the driver side single exhaust and stick it on the passenger side for some awesome tri-Y headers with no flapper valve.

I'll have to look when i pick it up saturday.  Paid, but not picked up..

Did you destroy one already?

I put a 322 in a 54 Ford using the Ford trans. It was OK as long as I was quite easy on the gas pedal. Flooring it in first or second was pretty much guaranteed to corn cob the cluster gear. If memory serves I blew up at least 5, likely more. I got to where I could change out a trans, in the drive way on my back, in 30 minutes flat. Now it takes me thirty minutes just to look under the car and stand back up...............Bob
