1939_Buick Posted August 12, 2017 Share Posted August 12, 2017 (edited) I have several 1939 transmissions & one 1940 transmission Most are natural cast iron finish (as image in post 1):- not painted. DonMicheletti Posted August 12, 2017 Share Posted August 12, 2017 This far removed from build it is hard to say what the factory might do, but the rest of the driveline and chassis is painted black, so I'd expect they painted the trans black too. I dont think I have seen anything that wasnt painted The trans has to be removed to do clutch work and anything might happen when that is done.
