A Couple of Nice Looking 1961 Buicks on Craig's List

Doing a search just for the fun of it, I came across

a couple of scarce 1961 Buicks on Craig's List.

I thought I'd point them out to the Buick fans on the forum,

since they definitely look nice.

Here's a 1961 Electra 2-door hardtop, and the ad reads:

"1961 Buick Electra, original 401 nailhead, dynaflow trans. Mirrored speedo display.

Original teal color and 80% original paint with recent touch-up performed.

Complete new teal colored interior, 1963 impala bucket seats added (original bench included)

and original hub caps. Full mechanical restoration to the carb, plugs, wires, belts, all fluids,

gas tank, dual exhaust, brakes, brake booster runs and drives excellent. Complete

under carriage detailed, engine bay and trunk restored. Original 77K miles, rust free and

has air-ride equipment, control hidden in ash trap. Rare car one approx. 4,400 or less

produced in 1961. Nice chrome, stainless and bright work. Very nice driving car, no squeaks,

rattles, window whistles, or major issues. Drive it anywhere and have something different

at the local car show. I bought it from the second owner that kept it in a climate controlled

garage and I was going to modify it to a resto mod, but its just too nice and original to modify."

Phone (206) 719-0346.  (evidently on the outskirts of Seattle, Washington)  He's asking $25,000.

And here's the other one.  It's unusual to see an

Invicta with the 2-toned paint on the sides, even

though one was depicted in the 1961 Buick catalogue.

Does this blue-and-white one in Texarkana, Texas

have a factory-authentic color combination?  It looks good!

"This convertible is one of 3,953 Invicta Convertibles produced for 1961

and a here a very rare 1961 Buick Invicta Tri Power offenhauser set up.

Convertible with a California black plate and all the records. Blue and white

with matching vinyl interior and white top Hard to find and  like new price US $ 35.500.

A true collector classic."  Phone (214) 991-5801.

He is about 25 miles east of Seattle in Fall City.  I have met the owner before at a car show with his Nova, but have not seen this car in person before.

Nice car, was for sale in WA in 2013/14 for low to mid teens needing some work, gentleman in OR purchased it and a Wildcat and completed some things and installed the tri power, sold it on ebay in 2015 in the 20's if I recall correctly.  Supposedly was originally from CA and had under 50k miles.

Guest Tri-shield

'61 Electra 2-door hardtop looks nice despite lowered with later model bucket seats and redone Chevy Impala-like vinyl upholstery. What's the name of those kustom wheel covers?

It's confusing when they list the car for sale in the Los Angeles car listings, yet it claims to be located in Texarkana, with a Dallas area code (214) (?). I think I looked at that '61 convertible for a friend of mine a year ago when it was for sale near Denton, Texas. It had the three two-barrels, ran well, but had terrible paint and the interior wasn't up to the standard of a $25,000 car, which is what the guy wanted for it. Now it has new paint and the interior looks a little better, but I still see wear and discoloration on the front seat. Normally when a '61 gets two-toned paint, I believe the darker color is in the middle, so this one looks odd to me, but I suppose you could get them two-toned with any color placement that you wanted in 1961. Usually, when a '61 gets two-toned paint, the cove area between the rear bumper and the trunk lid is also painted the same as the middle color on the sides.

I have two 61's so I'm partial to these cars. Assuming they are good quality drivers, these cars are priced at the upper end of the price curve. The sellers need somebody who really wants their car and does not mind paying more than anybody else since the cost of restoring one is so high. Unfortunately, these cars are rare and the buyer pool is small.

I think sellers list in other cities in order to expand their coverage.

I thought, too, that the asking prices were too high.

And the teal-colored Electra's price needs to come down

to the point where people can afford to correct the few custom touches.

Even well-off people "mind paying more than anybody else"!

You're right, Lamar!  I spoke to one devoted car fan

who, I know, had an 8-figure annual income,

sometimes at least $30,000,000 a year.  I told him

about a car for sale--and the first question he asked was,

"What's he asking for it?"

As you said, no one ever got rich by going shopping.

  • 3 weeks later...

I see that the blue-and-white Invicta is currently offered

for sale on the internet by "Classic Car Deals."  They

are asking $45,495:

https://classics.autotrader.com/classic-cars/1961/buick/invicta/100826823

The owner himself was asking $35,500, which itself wasn't a great price.

This shows everyone what goes on in the selling world.

I believe that "Classic Car Deals" does not own or have this car,

but that they're just a reseller who lists people's cars

(with permission or not?) and who tries to make money

for themselves in the process.

I saw my Invicta today...nothing has changed other than the continuing deterioration caused by time. It isn't nearly as nice as this one. Time and money are all that stand between me and getting another four or five cars on the road.

Could the blue-and-white Buick currently for sale

on Ebay be the same one as we discussed in 2017?

It's the same unusual color, but the wheel covers

appear different:
