wgw55
Hi all - Anyone know what kind of car this is? It was my mother's first car. The photo is professionally framed with a stamp on the back that says August 25, 1950. When I was young, we just called it the green jalopy! Thanks! F&J
I don't see the 51 taillight spears made of stainless, so it must be 50. the door handle type tells the difference between 49 versus 50, as 49 had a pull handle, and 50 was a more conventional pushbutton. wldavis
Also 1950 emblem on the hood. Nice car.

wgw55
Thanks for the ID as a 1950 Ford. Did it have a model name?

oily rag
49s did not have the fuel door, the gas cap was out in the open air.
Dave Mellor NJ
49s also had pull out door handles instead of the thumb button
m-mman
And the name 'green jalopy' suggest that it was painted "Sportsmen Green". A very bright color (chartreuse) color that everyone who saw it would have remembered.
Bloo
A long time ago someone wrote in to Mechanix Illustrated and asked test driver Tom McCahill what the difference is between a 49 and a 50 Ford. He said "One Year". Most of the actual differences have already been pointed out in this thread. One more difference, the little knight (or whatever he is) on the hood has a longer fin on his helmet in 50 than he did in 49.
Dave Mellor NJ
Slight difference in the fender chrome piece at the front of the line. The parking light and housing are different but hard to see from here
