Plating question for 1929 radiator badge

The radiator badge on my 1929 is not correct (for any year Buick, as far as I know), so I bought one that is correct.  It needs to be re-plated, but I am not sure what to do in preparation for bringing it to the plater.  Also, should it be nickel or chrome plated?  Here are some pics:

I believe '29 was the first year for chrome plating.

Don't do a thing to the part.  The plater will take care of any required preparation.  Best to leave it as found.  In 1929 it would have originally been nickel plated, whereas in 1930 they switched to chrome.

Do you know what the base material is ?

Are there any remnants of plating on the part now ?

Looks like a pretty rough sand casing in Aluminum.

There seems to be lots if "nodes" (positives) on the drag side, and the edges don't look "automotive quality".

Are you sure it is original  ?

 

Just remember chrome plating is the very last step in the plating process and without several layers of buffed copper it will faithfully brighten up every little detail, good or bad. So will bright nickel.

I don't think they were plated.

 

Most I have seen ( in this country at least ) have been polished.

I agree with 50jetback,I don`t think they were plated,I had one 1929 badge a couple of years ago it was not nickled or chromed.

1929 had nickel plated interior parts and chrome exterior parts.  The radiator badge should be chrome plated and painted blue behind the letters inside the rectangle.
