Have been searching for how to check oil level on 1937 Pontiac 6-37 engine - my latest project. Have not found a "dipstick" type of mechanism. Removed spark plugs yesterday and was able to turn engine over by hand (using fan blades). Need to find out what type of petcock is on side of block to drain water....just a threaded hole there now. auburnseeker Posted May 29, 2014 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Some dipsticks were actually integrated with the oil cap. When you take the oil cap off the filler tube it's attached to it. JFranklin Posted May 30, 2014 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Don't damage a good fan by using it as a crank to turn the engine. Bent blades can become shrapnel when you finally get it running.
