cobravii
that I haven’t posted anything in a while.I have been doing a frame off resto on my pop’s 1964 Buick Electra convertible. It was originally triple black with buckets and a 425 with dual quads.I became a rust bucket that should have been melted down for ball bearings.I started cutting out rust and welding in new steel a couple of years ago, the driveline is all new with an update to a 700R4 trans. Here’s a few pics:

60FlatTop
What a great reason to buy a scissors lift! Your post and all those floor repair pictures really come at a bad time. On Monday I am having lunch with a few friends. One of them owns a very nasty 1950 Lincoln Cosmopolitan convertible that I have been trying NOT to buy since November 2011. Your pictures did it, pushed me over the edge. By 1 PM Monday I expect it will be mine. All my pragmatic advice; "poof" - gone. My projects will never get done.Bernie
Ted "Wildcat65" Nagel
Wow that is a lot of work! Fixing rust is tough. It looks like the body was all the way off in the transmission pictures- will you take it off again to paint the frame? Thank you for the update! Ben Bruce aka First Born
OKAY, if I have missed it, forgive me. But what transmission are you using?? Ben

JohnD1956
Nice work on that sheet metal! It's a long road but it looks like you have it well planned...
cobravii
Thanks guys, The trans is a 700R4 and the frame is a spare one I have that I mocked the engine/trans up in. The body is almost ready to come off the frame now that most of the rust is replaced..... hopefully these days off :-)
JohnD1956
If the frame is a spare, why not do that one up and then you can pull the body and drop it on the new frame without delay?
cobravii
That frame was rusted through. It has been cut up since that pic was taken. It was from my donor car. I wanted to use the one with the correct serial number as well (not that this will ever be a concourse resto).
cobravii
Todays progress. This is the right rear corner of the floor under the back seat. I had to take out the bottom of the brace, cut out the rusted floor panel, clean up as much rust as possible and spray with weld-through primer. I then cut and shaped a new panel and welded it in. I cut another piece to fit in as an upright piece at the back of the new panel. I will finish it tomorrow.
