"What up D-rock?""Wanna go on a road trip?" he says."Hells yeah, let's roll Daddy-O!"What's in there?It's Rhinelander Rob and a 1923 Buick Depot Hack!!! The one Thriller was driving (?) around at South Bend. Well, let's load 'er up."Start it up!" - nope."Give it a crank!" - nope."Guess we will push it on then." (No photos due to photographer enjoying the 73 degree dew point at the time - pushing car on trailer. )There she is ready to go.Since the space the Depot Hack was occupying was previously occupied by a "Train Wreck Buick":Lunch needed to be at an appropriate place. JohnThe train: Heritage Passage [ARTISTS/GROWERS]The '58 was just sitting there with a bunch of other old cars, a sharp eye will see the rear of a '50. Maybe a week or so from now, you will see more. The picture of a sign was tough to see, on US highway 8, you have to have the "Straight 8 Bar".Buffalo at the place Donna got her ice cream two weeks ago, not out on that day, I finally got a pic. Thriller Posted August 31, 2013 Share Posted August 31, 2013 What a trip! 52 hours covering about 1350 miles with a trailer. Wyoming was neat...the bison added to the flavour. Aside from the visual difference, Max didn't really notice the '23 on back...it is neat that it is so light and can be pushed by one person. Paul left out the $1000 beer....The loading and lunch was well-covered, so off to Whitaker's.It was sad for me to leave as well, but I had about 450 miles to cover and a border to cross, stopping on both sides to export it first, then import it...exporting was considerably easier, since the Canadian side is quite concerned about collecting their taxes.Unloading at the country place....It is a happy thing that the '23 is so light since the strongest child wasn't available...it was also happy that the trailer height was slightly higher than the shop floor parked as it was so it was just a small heave to get it heading down the dovetail.At home among Buick brethren.It put a smile on some faces when it actually started on the trailer. My lack of experience (and a poor memory) led it to not continue to run, so the decision to push it off was made in the interest of expediency.That was a fun whirlwind trip.So, it all started in April in Salinas, CA, then got moved to Vancouver, WA. From there east to South Bend, IN and Nordwest to the land of the Hodag. Finally, west to take in another car show and northwest to come home. I've got a list of things to deal with, including battery (the one I got is too tall for the box), battery cable (to reach battery without a kluge in place), fuel delivery to vacuum tank, coolant leak at water pump, and some other odds and ends. I'd worked on the signature yesterday, but that must have been when I was logged in as "imported_Thriller". Sigh.Yeah, I was a bit concerned about the winking as I didn't have any paper bowls handy to cover the other headlight (although Rob offered a styrofoam takeout dish)...I decided to risk it and things seem to have turned out OK. The vehicle has made quite the trip and I intend to write something up at least for the Gopher State Chapter newsletter. The reality is that the vehicle has spent many miles on a trailer and with some of the bounce that occurs, it is always possible crud has found its way into places it shouldn't. Dave also has the advantage of understanding these older vehicles better than Paul and I do. That's not an excuse, but my next oldest that I've driven is the '41 and it is quite modern by comparison in terms of starting and running.That said, if you want to make your way up here, you are more than welcome.
