I noticed that many of them appear to be on a different chassis. There are a lot of them that sit higher than normal and you can see components under them that just don't look correct. Almost none of them have any sort of original type wheels.

Lots of really nice looking cars and some that could use some TLC. Without a lot of $, I can see they make due with what's available.

LOL.... you Americans are tooooo funny!! You think the US is the centre of the universe and that the embargo is why they don't have parts for their cars!!!

Not true, it is CASTRO that is keeping them from getting parts. The population of Cuba lives on a completely different monetary system than the rest of this part of the world making it hard (if not impossible) for them to afford the parts. There are LOT'S of other countries that also had those cars including Canada, Mexico, Belize, Nicaragua etc etc.

Just because the cars came from the US doesn't mean the parts had to.

Remember..... Cuba was NOT cut off from the world, Just the US (and vice versa)

Me thinks the US has the Toronto syndrome....or is that the other way unknw.gif

Good point....its the economy coupled with the insane metal friendly climate that has made this situation happen. Also notice that the predominant pictures of cars are Taxis...they know where their bread is buttered and its from nostalgic Americans. yes.gif

  • 2 weeks later...

An old dear friend that passed on a few years ago was awell connected used car dealer in Hialeah,Fla by the name of Vernon Hinton. He was in business at the same location all through the 1950's until 1980. He literally shipped thousands of cars to Cuba until 1959. He was on a first name basis with Bautista and had until his death, a ruby and diamond encrusted gold Virgin Mary necklace that was a gift from Bautista in favor of Hinton getting Bautista a new '56 Lincoln Premiere convertible which ended up in the Tampa Bay area.
