  1. Per a suggestion in a Packard ad in another forum, I'm starting a thread on a couple things that sellers do & I don't understand why. Why do they list a car here or anywhere with no price? I think the biggest culprits are dealers. Maybe they figure once you contact them, their excellent salesman skills will convince you that their car is not overpriced & is just the car you need. Along those lines, another term I see in ads in lieu of price is "inquire." This usually involves a very nice looking vehicle with lots of glossy photos. "Inquire" translated means my car is so special & I am so self important that I don't want to deal with riff raff. So if you call me to "inquire" I can immediately tell if you have the funds to purchase (you don't buy a fine automobile, you purchase it) my beautiful classic. Note to sellers: Get over yourself & your fine automobile. If a person doesn't buy from you, it's probably because there's a thousand other dealers & sellers that have something for sale that is just as nice and possibly even lower in price. Why do I see ads here & other places that state: "lost storage, need to sell", "thinning the herd", "reducing my collection", and then further in the ad you read willing to trade? It could mean a few things like: I'm tired of looking at this POS, I was going to do a few things to it, but my knowledge of these is poor so I'll dump it, I really bought it to flip but I'm not going to put that in the ad. When I see ads like that, I think one of two things. One is the seller is not being totally truthful, possibly even lying about his reason for selling, and two, if that's my first thought then I'll lowball him & maybe get what looks like a decent car at a very good price. I figure his not being truthful about selling reason gives me carte blanche to insult him with a lowball offer.
  2. I've seen overpriced project cars here & overpriced restored or original cars here. Maybe that's why every so often they get bumped to the top & we very rarely see one sold here.
  3. Keiser & Auburn, You don't have to go to the other site. I'll help you out - 1955 Packard Caribbean Convertible $24,500.00 1955 Packard Caribbean convertible barn find. Stored since 1973. Requires restoration. From the seller of the 1926 Nash. The seller's father received the Packard from the Studebaker-Packard dealership in Los Angeles. It was missing the hood scoops, the back seat, the twin 4 barrel manifold, carburetors and air cleaner. Over the years, the seller's son has managed to locate replacement hood scoops, a rear seat from a sedan to be modified for a convertible and an original cast iron intake manifold. The matching Rochester carburetors, air cleaner and some stainless steel trim is not included with the vehicle. The original right front fender (not shown) is included, however. The currently installed engine is from another vehicle and is not part of the purchase; the original engine is included. The seller's father began a conversion to a standard shift 3-speed transmission using all Packard parts from other models (the last of the Detroit-built senior Packards had unreliable Ultramatic transmissions). Only 500 of these 1955 Convertibles were produced, all convertibles. This example is number 388. The colors are an attractive white, coral and onyx. The Packard came from Needles, CA and therefore always in a dry climate. A rare opportunity to acquire a highly sought after example of the legendary Packard marque!
  4. I know you want people to visit your website, but I believe the rules here state that you're supposed to include a price with your ad.
  5. Google Peter Pietz . The name comes up as a realtor in NH & FL. Also shows up on FB & LinkedIn. Can I ask why you're looking for him?
  6. I like the body style better than the Big Boy. This one is also listed here: http://uniclassiccars.com/studebaker/277018-1939-studebaker-president-coupe-express.html. I emailed from the site & asked price. I'll post it if he replies.
  7. Steve, Check your messages. I PM'd you. George
  8. NOT MINE! I'm sure someone here can't wait to buy this gem. https://springfield.craigslist.org/cto/6045880643.html
  9. Johnny Cash - One piece at a time comes to mind from your replies.
  10. F&J You wrote "and before you think I must have junk cars all over, NO...I have 3 outbuildings here, and can fit in 12+ fullsize cars/trucks. I don't leave anything outside in this climate. It's MY right to own what I have, and none of YOUR damn business if you happen to see something towed in here. I see the poster above does not like looking at his neighbors RV, or hearing a dog... then MOVE , and stop thinking you can dictate other people. " With your vehicles stored in your outbuildings, you made my point about if you own the toys, then store them inside. Yes it is your right to own what I have, nobody said it wasn't. I wasn't picking on you, because I don't even know you. Perhaps you should reread my post when you are in a calmer mood and with a more open mind as to what exactly I'm saying in it. My intent wasn't to offend YOU personally, but to give a viewpoint of someone, not me, that doesn't have the same interests in cars or other toys. In a nutshell if your gonna own it, then have the proper building to store it.
  11. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. A neighbor has an RV that's worth $750,000 & parks it in his driveway. Although it's a very nice RV, it's an eyesore by any standard when it's parked there. I wouldn't want it there, would you? Army tanks, half tracks, deuce & a halfs, etc. are neat to look at, but not in a residential neighborhood. Fire engines are no different. I think the zoning precedent started because of inconsiderate "collectors" storing their crappy, unrestored cars in their driveways, side yards, back yards, carports, with or without the blue tarp. Anywhere but in a garage where they belong. Perhaps you should use the rule of thumb: If I want to own this/these toys, I should properly house them out of view in consideration of my neighbors. And another thing shut your yappy little dog up too. Done for now.
  12. Not mine - even if it was, I wouldn't admit it. https://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/6036366555.html posting unhide <image 2 of 2> Make heads spin this spring and summer! One of a kind! 1972 Cutlass. Automatic. Regular gas. Good condition.
  13. Some states won't allow scrapping a car w/o a title.
  14. Dave, If you mean the car in the photo here, look closely. There are 2 oval rear windows.
  15. 1920 Oakland Sensible Six, touring. This is based on the picture on page 1052 in the book "Standard Catalog of American Cars 1805-1942."
  16. The photo is recent. Don't have a clue where the cars are located. If the "Batvette" could be put back on the road cheaply, it would be an interesting conversation piece. I wouldn't want to put more than about $5000 into it including cost of car, making roadworthy, minor body & cheap paint.
  17. The orange car in the photo, behind the "batmobile" Corvette, with the green tarp thrown over it.
  18. Not mine. Someone here may be interested. http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/ank/cto/5948476410.html 1925 REO, Has all original engine, trans, etc. But would make a great Rat Rod ,Street Rod, Or Hot Rod. Just to many project at my place. very solid. Clear Title. I don't need help selling this item, Possible trades, Worth $4000 + Cash is King. If the add is still up, it's still for sale. 7one5-2nine6-2zero78
  19. It may be that some of those people are just trying to start a conversation because they like your car. I'm sure you can probably tell the difference between the know it alls & just regular folks. Maybe if you're decent with the ones that seem genuine, they won't think of you as the arrogant owner. Besides, isn't a value question better than someone pointing out all the flaws, imagined or real of your car? Or worse yet, having them whisper/mumble to their buddy that it's a POS? For the record, I've been on both sides of cruises & car shows as owner & spectator, & there's jerks on both sides. So we have to ask ourselves: Do I want to be decent when a question is asked, or a jerk? Being decent while putting someone in their place shows your class rather than your rudeness & stupidity.
  20. About 5 years ago, I saw an ad on CL for a Chevy floor shift tilt column & bought it. He also had a box of miscellaneous parts including some mirrors. The tilt was for a '65 Chevelle - bought for $100 + S&H. Sold for $350 + S&H. One of the mirrors was a driver's side exterior remote in near mint condition. When I researched the PN, it turned out to be for a '64 Impala. Bought the whole box for $25 + S&H. Sold the '64 mirror for $1200 + S&H on Ebay. Moral of the story - Even a blind pig finds a truffle every now & then.
