The car came with 12 inch wheels. The problem is the back side does not clear over the 48 Ford brake drums. It is difficult to see in the photo, but the wheel is only 2" wide. I found a Sumitomo 175x50x13 tire. That calculates to a diameter of 19.88" Does any one know how wide that would be?
The car is a 1937 Rena. MGM studios contracted C. Hibbard of Hibbard & Darren to build a small car for the movie Babes in Arms staring Judy Garland & Mickey Rooney. It was used in the 1947 Rose Bowl parade, and was used as a promotion for the longest running stage play in LA history "The Drunkard". I have a few early pictures of the car which I will post later. This is a completely custom built car. The frame is Renault from which the name RENA was derived. It has a 37 Ford 60 V8 engine and transmission and I believe a shortened 32 Ford rear end. The body is completely custom built. Originally the car had solid wheels with baby moon flipper hubcaps. This is the look we are trying to achive. It came to us with some cheap plastic wire wheel hubcaps. Actually this is my wife’s car.
I am looking for a set of 13 inch tires with an overall diameter 20 – 21 inches to fit a special car that was built in 1937 for a Hollywood movie set. Have attached a picture of the car. The home made rims that came on the car are 12’ and do not fit over the Ford brake drums. The car drives poorly, as the lug bolt holes are not centered. My solution was to custom make rims with early Ford centers and a Ford Falcon 13x4 rim which I have done. The tires that came on the car are 4.80 x 12 with an over all diameter of 20’. The second picture depicts the huge difference in size between a 5.20 x 13 (Which Coker claims to be the smallest 13' tire available)and the 4.80 x 12. Does any one know where I can get some small 13’ tires?
I installed under running board antennas on my Auburn. I was not happy with the reception, they were poor on their best day. Cowl antennas were introduced on 1936 on GM cars when they went to the solid 'turret' top. Does your 37 have a solid or fabric top?
Since Rustoleum does not market a reducer I contacted the Rustoleum tech, he recomended acetone.I have been using Rustoleum for years to spray frames etc.
Yes, it will work. I plan to put them in a lathe and cut the centers out, then mate them up with 36-48 Ford centers. I am making some special rims to fit a 1937 Rena, which came with an early Ford rear end.
My wife recently purchased a 1937 Rena. The rims that came with the car (the whole car for that matter) are custom made and are not centered correctly. They cause the car to bounce down the road. I have determined that a 13x4 rim will work. the bolt pattern is not important, as I will be cutting out the center and replacing it with 40's Ford. The car has a 37 Ford rear diff. Possibly 60's Valiant, Corvair or Falcon or??? I have looked at trailer rims but they are all 13x4.5 Any help is appreciated.
Does anyone have a decent used tank? OR does anyone know if there is a place that reproduces them. I have seen some done for streetrods, but they are not a faithful reproduction.
There is a seller on eBay right now that is selling them. His eBay id is thedahmer. I noticed one with an Auburn logo. It is advertised as NOS. I then looked at the sellers other items, and discovered that he has NOS leather key holders with all common and uncommon auto / truck logos. Hummmmm.
