  1. Thanks I'll follow up on those leads. Larry....Buick sickness is incurable I miss the mess of fluids that is a marking spot for these old buicks. No I bought Dave Browns Buick he has posted under 40 Ford on this forum and I believe you helped him out last summer or fall. The car I chased for 12 years is still sitting there gathering patina and the owner is too cantankerous to sell. This car was the second best option. Most of the parts I have for 1922 are interchangeable.
  2. Like to start out with a fresh set of points on my newly aquired 1921 Buick model 45 6 cylinder touring car any contact info appreciated Tblack
  3. I like the idea of black duct tape for the seats I'll have to try that!!!
  4. Thanks Terry the long and short of it you use the same springs from 16 to 22 with good results
  5. Terry were the springs made from original drawings the same for all your cars 16 through 22? Or were they different for all or some of the years?
  6. Yes 4 cylinder 22 or 23. Attached are 3 photos 1922 model 34 McLaughlin Buick ( Red Car) 1923 Model 38 Buick (snowy Car)and a 1916 Model 35 Buick (Black Car). From my files of Buick's on to new homes!!It is a 4 cylinder because the crank hole does not go through the radiator like the 6 cylinders . The radiator is a little flatter on top like 22 and 23...earlier cars 16 through 18 had a more rounded top....4 cylinders were not made in 19 20 and 21 and the last 4 cylinder was a 24 and it had the "Packard inspired" radiator,
  7. Eric ...I too had some mild interest in this car...interesting that you may have personal knowledge of the car from back in the day..it is still available I emailed the owners son and recieved an answer this afternoon. My concern was it was has been in New Orleans parked since 1986. First thing that came to mind was Hurricane Katrina and flooding...I asked about this and there was no assurance from the owner that Katrina was not a factor. In this thread Marty Roth offered to go look at the car as he is from New Orleans. I asked and he answered he had looked at it. Essentially this is a solid#5 car needing total restoration or maybe $5000+ extra needed to make this a #4 somewhat ugly but dependable driver. Observation was the flood water reached the center of the hubcaps but for a few days only. No immediate steps were taken to remediate any potential damage. The 2015 Collector Car Price Guide (I recieved in the mail today) puts the value of this car in #5 condition at $5640. The flood water is a wild card surely the brakes etc need to be done but I'm maybe overly concerned about the old Dynaflow trans. The price guide values this car in #4 condition at $9400. A #1 car is estimated at $47,000. The car might be worth a shot at #5 pricing but i would have to add $1500 in shipping and then begin to outlay time and cash to make it a fun driver. Trying to make this a show car could get real pricey...the 50 had quite a mouthful of chrome teeth. The flood water and questionable Dynaflow make me pass even at #5 pricing.
  8. Larry you could drive that one home....can't imagine selling a 1911 Buick on Craigslist
  9. For you the chase was fun...$10k as described seems high at $7500 and fairly local delivery still a reasonable deal...are the steering sector halves the same as a 23? If so I could send them out to you if you do get the car at the right price someday.
  10. perhaps ...I'll get a call but I was looking for a winter project...got my eye on a 41 Chevy 2 door sedan now
  11. Well thought it over and decided to come to terms at $10K...too much money but I have been chasing this one for 12 years...made an appointment to inspect it tomorrow. After all that the old guy called me back and said his wife and kids wanted him to keep it so he decided not to sell it. Not sure how many wives and kids really want to deal with broken down 100 year old cars at the end game, I guess he just did not want to part with it...chase is over I conquered this bite of Buick fever without laying out $10K.
  12. Gary and all...thanks for the perspective on price.. Interior seemed good it ran good 12 years ago started with the hand crank first try.I upped my offer to $9K the guy is firm $10K....even though it is close I'll pass on it for now. If this was going to be my first and/or only car I would go $10K, but hardly fits my situation. I was counting up the old cars that have come and gone in the last 15 years (22 total) I like to bring them back to life, make them reliable and drive them for a couple of years and start over. Key to doing that is not to lose money on them or at least to break even. The teens and 20's cars especially seem to be diminishing in value but they are so much fun to drive.
  13. Terry you are correct traveling with green is the way to go. Mark I agree if you run across the proper circumstance a car like that could be purchased for under $6000. Thruth is I looked at this car 12 years ago and have a companion to it model 44 plus tons of parts for either 1921 or 1922 so it is interesting to me. I don't want interesting to me to translate to overpaying. Anyone have a range for reasonableness of price. I tend on this one to err on the higher side considering it is relatively close. Also anyone have an extra splash plan and headlight email me with price so I can connect the dots on thisone
  14. I've been talking back a forth with a fellow up my way that has a 1921 Buick model 45....we have negotiated different trade options to no success. What do you any of you think this is worth. Being close to home delivery is minimal He purchased it over 20 years ago for $8000 was probably a 3.5 then and has deteriorated to a 4 now. Has not been on the road in 13 years. Starter/gen needs work. Missing a light lens, radiator splash pan, rad has a leak, no bumpers. A couple of top repairs needed. I stopped to see it 12 years ago and the old guy (now older and more stubborn today) started it on the first hand crank. Pictures are 12 years old but give some idea of the shape. My kind of car needs a little work to make reliable and not too pretty. Opinions welcome as I formulate a last offer.
  15. I had 2 differernt 41 buicks the antenna was controlled by a manual knob above the mirror no vacuum involved...but I had a 50 caddy that used a valve like that for the vacuum powered antenna. the bracket looks after market but you might be tempted to use it after seeing the contortions required to properly remove and reinstall the proper valve on the 50 ... easier to extend the hoses to this valve tucked away out of sight.
  16. I think Dwight has a balanced approach do the best you can cleaning and refinishing them still put together or as most others have suggested send them to a pro with the proper equipment and knowledge to get it right. I had to change spokes on a 1923 Franklin wheel years ago It worked out but I swore after that if there was a pro available thats the way to go.
  17. Tom ...trying to understand the problem. You Park the car and you jump in try to shift to neutral but can not get it out of the gear you left it in. If this is correct you solicit volunteers to rock the car and you get to neutral and start the car. Have you ever simply tried to start the car with the clutch in and in the stuck gear? If the car tries to move during the stuck gear attempt then you have a clutch sticking binding problem. If the car starts try now to shift in gear. You do not have troubles shifting once you get moving?
  18. I have a few 1923 transmissions. If you figure out what is wrong with yours I could send you one or strip it down for the parts you need. Is your clutch disengaging properly??

Car went for $9700....best price I've seen for a #5 car. Maybe there is hope for the teens and 20's market!!!

In New York State the registration prior to 1975 is the title and the registration is transferrable. You can usually obtain a registration in NY by taking a tracing of the VIN number and having a clear bill of sale and history of the car that is pretty easy. The DMV usally issues a non transferable registration and then after 4 weeks or so issue the transferable one after they are satisfied the car is not stolen....You could probably work with the owner to go through this process and have it shipped...good luck if you bid it could be a fun but costly restoration or just get it going and drive it after minimal restoration efforts. I though about buying this car...but it does not fit my downsizing plan.
  21. My 1921 has steel felloes and so does my 1922... the rims are not interchangeable. So type 1 on 1922 is probabably a carry over from 1921.

If you search the Buick buy sell forum for 1923 Buick the car was offered by Dick Farnsworth for sale at $6000 back in April 2014...he notes it was sold in August of 2014...I know the car went to Long Island and believe this is the same car. Looks like a big investment to bring this back with it's special embossed leather interior. Wonder why the recent buyer is selling it no reserve???
  23. I see by your signature you have cars from the 20's to the 60's and not exclusive on Buicks . I have a 21 Buick 44 roadster I can make available and/or a 40 Pontiac Coupe or 1931 Chevy Rumble Seat Coupe.. I cant decide whether to downsize or upsize!!!
  24. I spotted this 1921 model 45 buick in a shed up in Booneville NY...few differences between 21 and 22
