  1. Trunks are a nice add. Do you have bumperettes or a full rear bumper? Not uncommon to have bumperettes with a folding luggage rack or a rear spare tire rack. I aquired the rack from an old parts car years ago send me a PM and I can send you pictures of it close up so you know what your looking for. I have the original luggage rack from the car if that helps.
  2. I forgot I had John Beatty's 1922 engine here....I see the number on the side of the jug as 37858-1 The number on the mystery vehicle is 37858-9 The part number for 21 and 22 is 40302...my thought would be that it would be the casting number seen on the side and the last number might be the month. Anyone venture a guess. perhaps johns upper jug is from an older vehicle or the number on the side is a casting number not in anyway related to the part. For sure sub merged on the front corner of the cast aluminum block is the serial number and it will be able to refer to the year. I have 2 other 22 engines with the intake exhaust manifolds still on so I can not see the numbers on the jug
  3. I see the studs on top to hold the valve cover so I would say 1920
  4. The upper jug number for both 1921 and 22 is 40302 which does not match the number visible...I dont have the teens parts books any longer to verify.....1920 had sheet metal on the engine 1919 and earlier did not
  5. The car appears to have wheels with wooden felloes ...21 and 22 were metal.... I would guess between 16 to 18
  6. Thanks Mark I have a cover but it did not come with that car.Don interesting story on your e 45.......those cars did not even have sheet metal to protect the engine!!!!!
  7. Mark this is a before I'll have to get my camera going to get an after
  8. A little over 4 years ago I made a mad dash from Upstate NY to Minnesota in my 1972 truck with trailer to retrieve a 1920 buick frame and drive line and a a 1922 Buick carcass. The 1920 went to Ira Haire of Pennsylvania and the 1922 got disassembled and tucked in different corners of my garage. Frankly the 1922 looked like it was not worth bringing home as it was outside but with it's hood on for 50 years. 2 weeks ago I rolled out the engine, With down sizing I could now actually get to it....no cracks in the upper block (that's a miracle) so thought lets see what we can do. It was so stuck. I had to cut the shaft of water pump to remove it. The starter Generator was missing it's top cover so that ain't good. I removed the transmission it was free and shifting. Removed the clutch pack it looks like it will clean up. The entire bell housing was full of nuts, mouse stuff and lady bugs. The slidiing gear for starter flywheel interface was engaged to the fly wheel and stuck. I removed all the lifters in great shape freed up the valves. I put transmission fluid in the cylinders. waited 1 day. The engine was free with turning the flywheel by hand!!! Dropped the pan cleaned up every thing and replace the oil pump screens. I freed up the water pump and am going to install a keyed coupler at the cut between the pump and the gear. Anyone every do this? If successful you can remove the pump and drive gear in 2 pieces without disturbing the starter generator. The only thing that looked beyond repair is the carb. It is entirely full of lady bugs and also there must have been water in the dash pot which cracked. Ill keep soaking it and return to it later Per the Starter generator, I thought that it was a lost cause with no top cover ...so before going through the effort of totally cleaning it up, I oiled the bearing got it spinning freely and put 6 volts to it. The starter took right off. And it also motored so it should generate. I was totally amazed that this engine and starter being so neglected for 50 years was quite easy to free up. I guess it gets tucked back in the corner and hopefully I never need it for my 21 buick.
  9. Great to see the car being driven and enjoyed
  10. Both engines fit in the window of 1922's per the judging manual. The engines are early in the run and the other is late. Both use the older style Starter Generator that ended in 1922. If anyone else has a late run 1922 and can remember if it had pressurized center mains that might tell some thing ...I have John Beatty's 22 engine here but I never opened the lower end to look. It also is late in the 1922 year engine run. Per pictures I closed the second engine today.
  11. Dave...the unit you had was for a 1920...It went with my 1920 parts car (I got from Minnesota) to Ira Haire from down in Pennsylvannia. Per Starter Generators I have ones that work for 1921/22 and ones that work for 1923(Perhaps adaptable to 1924/25) These units are for the 6 cylinders. All my teens 4 cylinder parts went to John Henry over in Mass. Tom
  12. Dave ...I,m still alive but down to one Buick and a garage full of parts. I look in on the forum every couple of weeks
  13. I finally got around to pulling out a couple of my spare engines to free up and have ready in case they might be needed..(cheap insurance) I cleaned up a late year model the number was appoximately 875000 and an early year model number approx 796000. When I opened the pan on the late year model I found that it used pressurized oiling on the the center mains like the 23 engine, the dipper troughs had shields on top and the the pump and oiling assembly were also like 1923. On the early model I found what I expected no main bearing pressurized oiling and the dipper troughs were not shielded. Was there a change mid year or do I have a 1922 fitted with 1923 center bearing caps, oil pump and oiling manifold?? These engines are for sure 1922 as they use the older style starter generator Tblack
  14. This is a good thread for anyone to read before buying a late teens or twenties common car. No market, no appreciable worth other than pure enjoyment. If you can afford it go for it but do not think that buying is a good investment in a monetary sense. Been there done that but still enjoy driving my last Buick
  15. John...I,ve misplaced your phone number so send me a PM with the number...also have your 22 engine here. 2 of these 23 engines came from you originally and I sent back your way a few parts you needed over the years. I aquired the 3rd 23 engine in a trade for some of my teens parts. The extra starter generators came from various places over the years....can't have too many parts unless of course you no longer own the car they fit on!!!
  16. TTT seems to be no interest in the lot so let's see if there are specific needs...hate to go through the effort of a piece at a time on ebay or a shame to call the junker
  17. I recently sold my 1923 Buick model 49. The new owner only want a single engine trans and rear end as his parts cache, so the price was adjusted with the thought of offering the rest of the parts seperately on this forum. The desire is to to sell everything as a lot but if no luck that way then I would consider breaking it up on as needed basis. Essentially I have 3 engines in various stages of completeness. One rear end and front end for a model 45. 2 Transmissions with u joints. 3 starter generators for parts. and boxes of other stuff. Send me a PM for pictures and a more detailed inventory or call at my Phone Number. $1200 takes everything I have that is 1923 specific. Local pick up is the only practical way to get everything home.
  18. Never heard of bacon as a bearing but have heard of the leather belt repair...back in 1967 when my I bought my 1931 chevy my Father did not share the same enthusiam for old cars as I and he warned that even though the car sounded good that someone may have "shoed" it together for a trade in. Shoeing together for him meant disguising a bad bearing with a shoe leather repair. I guess this could be a fairly common practice as the repair would usually last longer than a 30 day warranty!! Mine fortunately was not found to be in this condition.
  19. .Your spindle bolts might be in acceptable condition if you change out your spindle bushings...I did this on my 22 with great improvement. Chances are your new rig wont be driving tons of miles.
  20. Dwight my 31 Chevy is of similar construction ...yes as noted the space under the seat is storage and my floors sag a bit as well....Probably those kids jumping up and down before seat belts have stretched the floor panel
  21. I'm assuming you did disconnect the rear rear end from the springs brake rods etc and have rolled it back to make room for the tranny to come out?
  22. Bob you have to take off the cotter pinned nuts and retainers holding the springs on the studs of the fly wheel. I sold all my teens parts but if you send me a PM I will give you the guys name and number where you can get the broken part you need.
  23. I'm not sure what the inside of a 30 Buick looks like but I have the rod dash plate that fits 1921,22,23 for sure and may have carried forward in following years.
  24. John ...I have 3 send me a PM for price with or without my 1941 Buick Super.
