1923 Buick

Didn't the 4 cylinder cars in 1924 go to 4 wheel brakes...I believe 23 was the last year for the 2 wheel brakes. Also the 1924 cars adopted the "packard look" radiator shell and the 1923 cars still had the round radiator. The picture from Portugal looks like a 1924 and the posting from hemmings looks like a 1923.
3. Larry if you are going to use an electric pump then also use a pressure regulator to knock it down further. I have an electric pump on my 23 and a series of isolation valves that takes the vacuum tank out of play. But the I have the vacuum tank working well now and I use the pump only if the tank gives me troubles( no troubles in the last 2 years).. again the isolation valves come into play. I would get my tank going first and pipe( with valves) the electric(with a pressure regulator) to act as a back up.

Prewar Buick

I sent a couple of pictures to your email address
5. Mark...thanks for the tip on Bob Knaak...I sent my clutch out, got it back and reinstalled in my 1917 Buick "truck". He did beautiful work and for the first time the 1917 is a pleasure to drive. I put it away as for the winter as our first snow arrived in upstate NY today.
6. I'm running 23 gears on my 1921....21 and 22 were the same the 23 gears changed the angle of the tooth and the cam gear was changed from fiber back to all metal......I got the gears from John Beatty he had a spare 23 engine John B... I have your 22 engine when can I bring it Back? Drop me a PM
7. 21 and 22 are interchangeable with 23 if you have all three gears I think 20 is different ...Superbuick contact me on your engine...condition, price and picture as I have both a 21 and a 23 and would like to put together a serviceable spare.
8. Larry I see by your post you would consider a 4 cylinder. If so I have a 1916 D35 and a 1917 D35 (made into a truck)...I too prefer 6 cylinders but the 4's move right along. If interested I believe you would be able to swing the pair on your budget....also available I have a truck load of parts that we can negotiate on a total price( Included in the parts are 4 engines and one is totally rebuilt, babitt bearings, new pistons and rings).....If interested drop me a PM or call at 518 863 4400.
9. Glad I did not wait on the part this will help it keep rolling. Thanks again
10. Rick ...thanks for parting with the oil filter canister I am glad to have the correct part on my 41 super. Thanks
11. Mark ...quote" I will pull the clutch after I remove the body and send it to Bob Knaak for new leather." Can you send me this contact info...I had my last clutch done in Kevlar and was not happy with the final results.
12. I read in Dean Tryon's Newsletter, received today that a Robert Vassar has a running 1920 engine Transmission and parts for sale out in Iron River Michigan....906 265 3576 Sounds like one of these leads could help you out
13. I sold a 1920 Buick running gear to Ira Haire in Pennsylvania last fall. Perhaps we can help you out his phone 1 570 2500076
14. Took me all summer to put 730 miles on my 21 Buick. If I get over to the pre war tour I should put on about 400 miles in 3 days. Great Story I enjoyed reading it thanks
15. When I had the 41 Buick Century I used the 6 volt petronix and it worked well...it was though specifically designed for a range of Buick years as a drop in replacement . I'm not sure if anyone is making it for your particular distributor.
16. Interesting power take off unit on the spark plug side of the engine the universal joint looks like a teens 4 cylinder...nothing went to waste on the farm
17. If you want to stay babbitt I used the Babbitt Pot in Fort Edward NY they do good work.Babbit Rod Repair! Any Suggestion? 4 posts - 3 authors - Last post: Sep 17, 2006 In the Northeast, two popular babbitt repair shops are: 1. The Babbitt Pot Fort Edward, NY (518) 747-4277 2. A-1 Babbitt Co. Donora, PA ... Babbit Rod Repair! Any Suggestion?Babbit-Rod-Repair!-Any... - Cached I would be tempted to go for inserts though as an alternative.
18. These things can be frustrating...my 21 model 44 was tight after a rebuild that occurred 20 years prior(but never run) ...I was not turning over with starter generator real fast and you could feel it labor at a specific point....I towed it and found the problem....the cam gear(fiber) was damaged and towing did it in. A year later the car seized running down the highway...this time it was the bushing coming out of the engine casing it seized to the pump shaft....no other damage and it runs fine today. I can't imagine that this could be your problem but I would see if the water pump shaft has a bit of movement allowed by the tolerance in the gear meshing. Your problem is concerning as you ran less than a year ago parked it and it's stuck...I would soak for 1 month then rock the car again...I'd be suspicious that you have gotten water in a cylinder from a head gasket or cracked head I can't imagine that condensation/rust is locking you this hard in this short of a period of time....If you break loose be looking for the potential of a bigger problem. Anything to note when you ran it 10 months ago??? Good luck
19. Ken PM is a private message...just click on my name and that option comes up..just did not want to put my email address directly on the forum as there are always security issues Thanks
20. Ken their was a misquote in the original email P ul had parts from a 1923 35 4cylinder not a 45 ...John Fesser bought the parts and then I bought them from him...I recently sold them with my 1923 mdel 38.
21. Ken...send me a PM and I will send my email address. Tom Black
22. Ken...noted 45 ...I have a couple of parts to the irons that were I believe to a 22 McLaughlin model 45...I think these were different than the buick top irons as these were chromed and generally more elaborate. I also have the top irons to a 1917 Buick D35 that might be adapted with different bows but hopefully someone will have just what your looking for. Can you post a picture of your project?? Thanks
23. Auburn seeker...I'm about 50 miles from you as the crow flies over in Northville NY....I have a restored 1916 Buick touring model d-35...kids would have fun in this one if you stick to the back country roads.
24. Ken do you have a model 35 4 cylinder? a model 45 5 passenger 6 cylinder? or a model 49 7 passenger 6 cylinder?
25. Paul Nice looking car and good talking to you on the phone. If anyone out there wants to buy my Buick 16 D-35 touring and 17 D-35 touring(turned speedster) with all my 4 cylinder parts for $25K then I would have the room and cash to work a 3 cornered deal for your car. You never know xmas is coming.
