  1. Racer2_uk, Great that you found this thread. Excellent engine re-building coming out of your shop! I have read about your Chalmers before, but finding solutions to the two engine's problems you started with is extraordinary. There are 4 Peerlesses in each Scandinavian country. Did the Norwegian engine come from Vegard Gullikstad? I corresponded with him about 12 years ago when he found a thrown-together car w/ a Peerless rad shell, radiator, rad emblem and I believe a dashboard.........then found a Peerless V-8 engine, sans carburetor, in some farmer's barn. The homemade jalopy had a later-model inline six, and we thought the V-8 motor was 1920 or 1921-era....and was used as a hillclimb car in Sweden. I noticed that some of the OP's piccies at the start of this thread show a chassis, differential, springs, etc. Maybe that's your frame source. ----Jeff ---- Have you ever read the long article in Curbside Classics that touches on the evolution from the first mass-produced V-8, De Dion-Bouton, to the Cadillac, to the H-S, to the Peerless?   2. Al, I talked to my GreatGrandfather, born in 1861, and asked what he thought of TV's "Gunsmoke", since he lived in Dodge City when one of the Earps was Marshall. He thought there were too many guns. Just to make this car related, he started a car company listed in The Standard Catalog of American Cars and was a dealer for both Case and Marmon automobiles.
  3. Yes. A 1925 Restored Model "Six-70"(sometimes called a "Peerless Six") 5-Pass. Sedan, this 1925 5-P Touring Phaeton, and a 1924 5-P Touring Phaeton in whatever condition you'd like to call a car left outside in Montana for 60 years. The latter Peerless is for sale in Texas, last time I heard. .....2009 photo ......2009 photo.....quite a bit of discussion on this Peerless over the last 16 years(AACA Peerless Forum and the AACA Forums in general). With a low serial number(411th built) and a Pullman Body, it's definitely a 1924. ......1924 Peerless 6-70 when introduced in early 1924. ......a photo of a Peerless 6-70 Roadster at the New York Auto Show in January of 1924. The 6-70 was mostly a 1924 model, but they were made for 3 months into 1925, during its production of 2,786 units.
  4. Outstanding, important car, would like to buy it, don't have the money. Not too far away, though, and I have a car hauling trailer. Usually the good stuff is back east thousands of miles away. The Peerless has moved about 100 miles south of where it was when it was at a Canadian auction 4 years ago.

I found an interesting ad for one of the new 1923 Peerlesses in a program for the new Kansas City Speedway. The wood racetrack opened September 17, 1922 and the Kansas City Peerless dealer, Kaup Motor Co., was an advertiser.   6. First Car in Salmon Salmon, Idaho. The first car to appear in Salmon, Idaho, probably on July 4, ca. 1905, was driven from Montana for the day. From left to right in the front seat is Fred Vogler, the driver; then Laura and Lena Shoup of Salmon. Left to right second row is Bradwardine Glendinning of Spokane and Margaret Shoup of Salmon. Left to right back row are Margaret and Elizabeth Glendinning of Spokane and Arthur and Edna Davis of Salmon. Sitting on the fence is Mr. Matlin. Glendinnings were cousins of the Shoups. Date about 1905 Idaho state Historical Society. 63-216-0 It was the summer of 1904, and is a 24 h.p., four-cylinder, Peerless Model 8.
  7. Thanks for spotting the hubcap A.J., hard to find really. By my count, there are 14 of these cars on the planet, so they're not in every car show, every collection, either. The ebay seller has described it as fitting a '31 Peerless...But Wait!...owners of 1930 and 1932 Peerless Master Eights and Deluxe Master Eights can use these, too, vastly increasing the market for this beauty. A few years ago someone had a Peerless Coupe for sale in Tamales, CA that was one of the Peerless straight-8s..probably a Master Eight..and this might fit it. Interesting car in running condition. During the lakebed runner phase of southern California hot-rodding, someone cut down a Coupe to a roadster to comply with the rules, put wider tires, a Chrysler straight-8, and smaller headlights on it.

  10. For several years, including 1916, Peerless cars were equipped from the factory with 4-cylinder tire pumps, mounted under the hood. I believe the manufacturer was Kellog.
  11. Thanks, Mr. Harper....for the link and another good picture from the sale 4 years ago. I've seen other photos from back then, and cosmetically, the interior and top looked great,as well as the exterior.
  12. As it says --- there are about 50 cars for sale --- not only this presentable 1928 Franklin, but a 1925 Peerless.
  13. An interesting Peerless that was mentioned at its last sale is up for sale again: a restored light green 1925 Model Six-70 Touring Phaeton. One of 3 known 6-70 Peerlesses, out of 2,786 built, mostly in 1924. 40 years ago a Canadian wheat farmer purchased dozens of antique cars, restored a few to presentable shape, and displayed them in a big Quonset hut. This Peerless was one of them. The auction company declined to give me any serial numbers of the car or contact information of the new owner, but said the buyer was in Sidney, MT. Well he wasn't...but was someone 80 miles N.E. of there in ND named Eugene Krueger. It sold for about $11,000 CDN($8,000 USD). The same car was on this thread in July, 2018. DavidAK, in "1928 Franklin For sale", in the "Automobiles & Parts For Sale" thread(4/16/22), posted about a Franklin for sale at a May 29th, 2022 auction in N.W. ND(Crosby), and this is one of about 50 vehicles(Chevs, Buicks, Studebakers, a Packard, a Star, an Overland, an Erskine, and others, 1920s-1970s) listed by aumannvintagepower.com . I think the pic below is from the Sept., 2018 auction..........seeing how Crosby has been in the midst of blizzards the last couple of weeks, as all you North Dakotans know! 22 hours ago near Crosby, ND: .................Yep, North Dakota is Closed.............
  14. Thank you for your interest. I thought I was the only person who had heard of F.W. Vogler. Have you contacted the Lemhi County Historical Society yet? They have a couple of photos relating to the Red Rock & Salmon Stage Line and the car on the bridge.

    Here's another Bentley, at the 2014 Circuit des Ardennes. I don't know the year or model. The pictured owner said, in this youtube video I took a screen-grab from, but I couldn't follow his rapid-fire French. The 2022 commemoration will be July 8-10 this year, 120 years after the original Circuit.
  16. Temple Baldwin told me he was there when it was recovered. He might know a little more about it if anyone here is a friend. I went to the Bakersfield HCCA Swap Meet once, and everyone I talked to seemed to know who he was.
  17. The Old Man of the Mountain is best known as a rock face in New Hampshire that looked like a man's profile, and some called the Model 48-Six, 578 Cu. In. T-Head Peerless that, before it was brought out of San Mateo Canyon. I think Merl Ledford, Gerald Luckow, and Ron Carey have owned it. The 1966 Gazette story was "THE PEERLESS THAT CAME IN FROM THE SKY". Not much was left of the car at that point, but it got put back together again.

  24. Well -- more thought to still exist than lost, probably. I had never heard of it and was astounded by it. Truth is, I don't know where it is and was thinking Who would get rid of a stunning piece of coachwork like this? and that it could be in an article on What's the formula for getting a car accepted at Pebble Beach? Since we were talking about the '36 Cadillac Sport Cabriolet, and these two cars had the same owner, I was hoping the soul who knows where one went would know about the other.
