  1. I've had a similar tubing straightener tool for years, and I agree completely. It's almost like magic in how well it works, and I use only steel or stainless tubing.
  2. I hate to be "that guy", but I was really surprised by the large percentage of empty swap meet spaces on Tuesday. We were there all day, and there was a LOT of walking between vendors. We walked in a little after 7 am and left about 5 pm. As a musclecar fan, I'm used to the fact that I find more things that I need at Carlisle than at Hershey, but Tuesday at the swap meet was somewhat disappointing even at that. We covered all of Green and Orange, most of Red, and a small part of Chocolate. My admittedly unscientific survey says that there were maybe 60% of the vendors as compared to prior years.
  3. Here's what the lower control arm shaft and bushings look like. The larger diameter threads on the shaft hold it in the suspension crossmember. The smaller diameter threads are where the bushings ride. The trick is getting the bushings to simultaneously engage the threads in the control arm and on the shaft so that the shafts are correctly oriented on the crossmember. I did not replace the shafts when I rebuilt the suspension on my 62 F85.
  4. If you are talking about the control arm bushings, they are threaded metal-on-metal. The pivoting action actually comes from the bushings riding the threads on the cross shaft. Ball joints on these cars can be either pressed in or threaded in, but the control arm bushings are all threaded.
  5. While I realize that the 1970s were not Ford's best time for quality control, a cursory examination of the bed on this conversion screams "kit car. I say the "1 of 8" claim is pegging the BS meter. I can find more than eight different versions of this conversion on the interwebs.
  6. There is a plethora of paint products for matte black bumpers and trim. I've found SEM brand to be among the best for plastics. Note that surface prep is extremely important to getting paint to adhere to plastic. A thorough wipedown with wax and grease remover is mandatory. SEM sells an adhesive promoter for flexible plastics as well.

Policies like this are not uncommon and have been implemented because people use the "shotgun" approach to fixing a problem - they are incapable of troubleshooting and simply replace parts until the problem goes away. Frequently when a new part doesn't fix the problem, they try to return it for a full refund. This only hurts the rest of us by forcing stores to increase retail pricing to cover these returns. Note the "not for refund" policy on electrical parts - only exchange if the new part is defective.
  8. The OP is trying to do a quick flip on this car for a profit and is coming here for a free appraisal rather than paying an appraiser. The information was provided - these cars are not particularly desirable for anything other than basic transportation and don't bring much money.

  12. Sorry but I drove a lot of these FWD four door GM A-body cars as rentals when they were new. Not the greatest cars GM ever made. There is nearly no following as a collectable - purely transportation appliances.

  14. The seat backs are not adjustable (there was a very rare optional reclining passenger seat). There is a trick, however. If you tilt the seatback forward, you'll see two oval plastic bumpers where the seatback frame touches the seat bottom. These can be cut down or removed completely to change the seatback angle. Don't worry, reproductions are available. The seat tracks should have 4-6 inches of travel. If yours don't, there is something wrong with the tracks.

  19. Same here. Arrived Tuesday afternoon and set up in the drizzle. Wed and Thurs were good days weather-wise. The north field is pretty empty but that has been a trend at Fall Carlisle for years now. Got some great deals including a unicorn posi unit for my 1962 Olds F85 wagon. As Craig says, predictions are light rain Friday AM but nice in the afternoon and Saturday. Fair crowds today.
  20. Here in VA the police are very much paying attention. People have been abusing the system and using antique or YOM plates for daily driver beaters to avoid safety inspections and emissions testing. If they see a clapped out car with antique plates taking the same route at the same time every day, they rightfully get suspicious.
  21. More likely is that it's the 1970.5 Torino-based Falcon. We had one of these donated to my high school auto shop class in the early 70s.
  22. Is this the half-year Falcon based on the Torino body? Which brakes, drum or disc? Factory disc or conversion? If discs, most likely the pads need anti-squeak on the backside. If sliding calipers also be sure the sliding surfaces have a thin wipe of grease on them.
  23. How about a more basic question - what non-stock items are on the car besides the obvious ones we can see in the photo?
