  1. Since PICKIN' has been a topic of late and it would not be of proper etiquette (nor advisable) to Hi Jack Lamar's thread. Wondered if anyone has some recommendations for pickin' our way to Charlotte? We will depart Jewell(our fair City) to Central Missouri in a attempt to find history on my Great Great Grand Parents. Then over to the Muddy Mississippi and a chance to sing; Then on to of course Graceland ; Intro Elvis - YouTube then on through Kentucky/Tennessee for some more genealogy dating to 1800 and then to the new American Pickers place in Nashville. Anyway, if anyone knows of some good pickin' places please let us know. P.S. I realize this may be like sharin' that favorite fishin' hole
  2. Did anyone else see that invoice from The LAMAR and Rankin Drug Co.
  3. Do they have a website? Would they be interested in making some plates?
  4. I to have been thinking of doing some thing like this. I have a shell of a Dynaflow I was going to melt down. Attached is a plate I found from a local car club here in Iowa from the 1950's it is 5X8. Thought it would be fun to try. Now Lamar might question whether there were any Rebels up North here in the 1950s. But at least enough to have a car club. On the back it is stamped Chicago,IL
  5. Barney, Very cool Where do you find this stuff? 2 comments! * The 51 Lesabre brochure is in French. * I'm not finding my 2004 Rendezvous which certainly would be considered classic : )
  6. This a great question and one that should be asked before you buy a classic car as I learned the hard way. Especially when you hear the phrase "well, it was driven here where it is parked". Found out the lil' ol' lady drove it there after church 22 years previous to when I bought it. Cut the pistons out with a torch.
  7. Dang, Paul beat me on the "SHOTGUN" call. But proper car etiquette says you must be touching the Front Passenger Fender to secure a proper "SHOTGUN CALL". According to my 1969 Edition of "Guide to Unwritten Car Etiquette" . Signed by John Kay of Steppenwolf.
  8. OH OH:eek: I think I saw one of those at a Steppenwolf Concert in 1969!
  9. Not being familiar with all Southern Lingo. I am assuming a "Hooka" is some type a High Test Adult Beverage/ High Ball? I am hoping they have a very fine vintage of "Milwaukee's Best Light". Lamar, I recently traveled a "SPAM BOULEVARD", as soon as I can get a pic I'll post it over on the "SPAM THREAD" and bring it back to life.
  10. Welcome Jerry, Some great folks on board here.
  11. "You really watched the movies............... For me it was a place to go parking without getting thrown out". __________________ Bob I just saw the 1st half .
  12. Anyway back on topic. I always wanted to buy some to hang out on the patio, but had thought there would be sound quality concerns. A great idea for car shows Robert.
  13. Robert nothing opening when I click the box. Some may remember the jingle. "Let's all go to the Snack bar" With the cartoon of the Soft Drink Cup and the Popcorn Box dancing. Followed by ......... "7 Minutes till SHOWTIME" Then ....... "6 Minutes till SHOWTIME" Then let friends out of trunk!! This may be a topic for a new thread. Movies I saw at the Drive Inn. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (11 times) Midnight Cowboy The Graduate Kelley's Heroes The War Wagon True Grit Night of the Grizzly (what ever happened to Clint Walker?) The Ugly Dachshund Swiss Family Robinson Creature from The Black Lagoon (Late Late Feature)
  14. BCA guys..... is this one of those "Blackout Cars"? Am I saying that correctly? It appears the grille, bumper and trim are not stainless. Captain Greg, My Dad was U.S.N. WWII Post this over on the Buick Forum as well.
  15. I can't resist a comment here. MMMMMM the Drive Inn. It's a good thing they didn't have Web-cams in the speakers back then.:):) The ol' Drive Inn in Ames is now a Mini-storage building.:(:(
  16. Hey Brian, Lookin' good. I stopped by the 2012 website today to double check event times. You guys n gals doing a great job . The "frequently asked questions" actually answered my questions. Confirming travel times this week and sending in registration this weekend. Double checking one question. $35.00 BCA Member entry fee is for both member and spouse/guest? I know the answer, but checking for a friend:rolleyes:. Poured Concrete outside at the Ol' Phillips 66 today. Today's temp in Iowa 55 F. Regards, R. Y.
  17. Mike T does fine work and is knowledgeable of codes
  18. MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL. We are having Christmas a day late as Grandkids didn't get here till late last night. I got a Scandinavian Cook Book (Thought of our friends in Minnesooota) and "A PLACE CALLED BUICK". I may be the only one who got his wife a Cast Iron Skillet for Christmas and survived (so far)
  19. DANDY Does that mean there are more adventures of Harry and Meatsy coming???? MERRY CHRISTMAS
  20. B&J Sounds like fun and a good cause. Would love to join but settling in for winter here in Iowa. I'll bet if you promised SPAM Mr. Earl would drive down from GA
  21. Barney Do you suppose the guy with the Limo would trade even up for a 62 Corvair window van?
  22. My response to Jerry at the Olds club "the Gauntlet has been laid down . Time for another education to the Olds group: )" His reply back: "Note to Rick: We have some W-30s, W-31s, Hurst/Olds, and more than 50 years of assorted Rockets that are ready to continue their traditional role as instructors.
  23. Just recently passed in Iowa. Somewhere in your legislature is a car guy, if not you own Rep. It does take some glad handing along the way. Maybe petitions at next summers car shows
  24. rapidride2, From personal experience. For the least total money/time invested your best deal is to find what what you want and buy it. It is a rare occasion that someone spends years restoring a car and comes out a penny ahead. That being said..... There are 3 considerations; 1. Does a guy or gal have $??,???.?? to lay out on the front side to buy what you want? Some like me don't 2. Do you have a passion to stick with a project for several years (and a spouse who doesn't mind her car setting out all winter)? Over several years the things you don't have the skills to do (like a premium paint job) can be farmed out over time. I have a body guy who took my 63 every winter and did a little as I could pay him (amount not disclosed). Just make sure you can trust the Body Shop as there are horror stories of missing parts or cars. Note for option 2; Some spouse might say"are you going that garage again?" Your reply of course is "I could be heading to the bar". Option 2 gives you the satisfaction of someday going a car show (or BCA National) and saying "Yep, I did that". Option 3; Hang out at your local casino or horse track and look for a guy standing next to a gorgeous "GS" with the obvious look that he just lost his whole paycheck betting on "Road to Rome" in the 5th race at Hialeah Park. Odds are you'll be able make a good deal.
  25. If you thought that Friday night in Jewell was fun. Put Saturday June 9th 2012 on your calender. And make early reservations at VILLA 66 And check here; Home Have you ever seen the Iron Chef "Chopping" on the Food Channel? It's OK to admit it we watch it all the time. Same concept except replacing "Chefs" Classic Cars and their restorers. More fun in Jewell, Iowa
