  1. I FOUND MINE AT BOOS- HERREL. They appeared to be rubberized cork. Glenn Lorei
  2. I will agree with the other answer to your post. If you want to spend the money place the dollars toward bringing it back to original. The car you are working on was a CLASSIC when it was being manufactured. Originality will enhance the value. Be patient. I started on mine going on 6 years ago. It was the beginning of a treasure hunt. For me that was half the fun and then meeting with some and talking with others in the organization was a great learning curve. You have a diamond in the rough it will be beautiful. Glenn Lorei
  3. It appears from the pics that it could have future. The cabriolets are more valuable than the coupes. Is There any rust in the floor boards. Can YOU do the work? Don't worry about the engine, it can be rebuilt, or replaced. expensive ?? Yes! The interior looks passable. Is there rust in the body? Check the market for a restored cabriolet, weigh the cost of parts and labor. A key element is how much of the work can you do? How much patience do you have? How much joy do you derive from seeing the result of your labor?. If you decide to jump in, there are all kinds,of members with various skills and knowledge that stand ready to advise you as you go.
  4. Kathleen, Do have any of the parts mentioned in you original post. I am looking for good grill parts (w/o pits) rear fender spears and a rt hand mirror. Please advise if you have any of these items and how much. Thanks. Glenn Lorei glorei@kc.rr.com
  5. Keith, Thank you for the response. My wheel is beautiful other than the crack--I would make it worse, think I'll leave well enough alone. Glenn Lorei
  6. Keith, I have a '48 LC. The steering wheel has a crack on the lh spoke., near the hub. (A matter of being 65 yoa I suppose.) Do you have a means to repair that? The rest of the wheel is really good. Glenn Lorei b6vt
  7. West, Look to the "SOURCES" part of our web site. You will find Jake Fleming. He has worked on my distributer and coil and it works great. He is also a wonderful resource--I have called him a number of times and always come up with an answer. Glenn Lorei
  8. I too logged on and got this Syrian crap--where did that come from?? b6vt glorei
  9. I can't believe that would be a good idea. Since the 6 volt battery is not dead, you are adding anther 12 volts thus 18 volts are surging thru the system designed for 6 . Try to find out why the engine has the starting problem. Perhaps adding a no gain 12 volt starting system would solve the symptom--not the problem. Glenn Lorei b6vt
  10. 65 Starfire, As I recall, on the Ford flathead the dip stick entry was a hole in the side of the engine block, driver's side with a tube into which the dip stick was fitted.glenn lorei
  11. Big Ugly, They are a unibody but unlike a true unibody, it is welded to a conventional frame. Glenn Lorei (b6vt)
  12. Beltfed, When I acquired my 48 LC coupe, This had already been done. A dip stick had been placed into the hole that had accommodated the float rod. They had marked the rod for oil level and it works fine. It can be a challenge finding the entry hole to replace the dipstick. They fashioned the dip stick out of a welding rod. Glenn Lorei
  13. Thanks so much for the input. As usual, it is pretty much common sense and physics. Glenn Lorei
  14. I have to bleed the brakes on '48 LC. It sticks in my mind that there is an order of succession to follow in bleeding brakes per wheel. If this is this true, what would it be? Glenn Lorei
  15. Adam, For shipping, contact mark@enginesdirectfreight.com I had a great experience with this company. You put it on a pallet, ( Go to LOWES or Home Depot and get one for 0$,) strap it down with nylon straps and tighteners bought at same place and the cost is minimal. They will pick it up at your door. Glenn Lorei PS If you can't find a rebuilder, I have a good friend in Raytown Missouri who can do the job for you.
  16. Jim, Before you go to the bother of photographing the pair and putting the pic on this thread, how much do you want for them? Glenn
  17. I am looking for both left and right tail light spears which are in good chromed condition. My car is a driver so they don't have to perfect , just better than mine. When the previous owner painted the car, they didn't remove the spears and they got too close with the sandpaper. So if any of you have this pair lying around please contact. Glenn Lorei
  18. As a senior member, I am delinquent in almost never adding anything to the forum. I have learned so much from more experienced members, and they have allowed me to progress in the restoration of my '48 LC. My retirement has allowed me more time (and less $) and my 78 yr old body has shown me that it can't keep up with my 35 yr old head. I would like post some pics because, even if I do so so myself, the results are pretty good, even though far from complete, and I have been at it since 9/06. My biggest problem in posting pics is IGNORANCE. How is it done? Any direction would be most welcome. Glenn Lorei b6vt
  19. I have a very good friend who is the op manager at a ford dealership in Raytown Mo 64133 (Dick Smith Ford 816 353-1495). He has a 1956 Ford Town Sedan with the 312 engine in extremely good condition. It is blue and white like the one illustrated on your page--I don't know if he is interested in selling. His name is Mike Gatchet--a really great guy. Glenn Lorei b6vt
  20. Peecher, When my engine was rebuilt, the builder saw fit to remove the float and install a dipstick, (the dipstick!) This was before I owned the car. I have been contemplating the install of the float since I have the parts. You had indicated a chain to lift the engine--do I need to to this to remove the pan? Glenn Lorei
  21. Kathleen, I just noticed, my post to you in july had a mistake on the email address. My question to you: Do you have any non pitted grill parts. If so I'd be interested. Glenn Lorei glorei@kc.rr.com
  22. Kathleen, Do you have grill parts that are not pitted. Tail light trim that is not pitted. This all for a 48 LC. Glenn Lorei b6vt glore2kc.rr.com
  23. Larry, I have an already prepared v12 block, crank, flywheel , timing gear. cleaned, rebored, refinished. I have the bearings and pistons, rods, refinished oil pan. You will need: cam shaft, distributer, heads ,intake manifold, lifters, valves, water pumps, etc.( basicly a short block plus pan.) If you are interested please contact me. I had a grandiose plan to redo the engine in my 48 LC but age and arthritis has altered my thinking. Glenn Lorei b6vt
  24. Peecher, Again you have come to the rescue. Thanks so much! It works!!!!!!!!!!!. Glenn Lorei b6vt
  25. I cannot find the problem on the horn circuit on my '48 LC. Hooked directly to the power source the horns work. The continuity of the horn ring circuit checks out. The horn relay is operating and the points are clean. When the horn ring is pushed the circuit completes and closes the points on the relay. The relay is wired in this sequence: 1) Hot wire to driver's side connection.. 2) horn ring wire to middle connection. 3) feed to horns, passenger side connection. Where or what am I missing???
