  1. Then I guess we agree to disagree. I still stand by my comments.
  2. I think the writer is adding some opinion to make a story. The way it starts out doesn't make sense. As quoted, "In the original GM product plan, Chevrolet was supposed to get an all-new vehicle for 1958, something like the car that eventually appeared as the ’58 Chevrolet. However, circumstances pushed that car back one year and the decision was made to facelift the ’55-’56 shell for one more annual build cycle." They DID get an all new vehicle for '58. And '59. Nothing anywhere about an all-new vehicle for '57. I don't know what consitutes a "rush job". What was the normal lead-time? How many other cars are then "rush jobs"? The sheet metal is not "out-of-whack". I've seen some with rear bumper-taillight misalignment, and some not. It's hard to say at this point what they looked like from the factory. Probably hard to find an original with sheetmetal that has not been disturbed in 56 years. Mine is certainly not misaligned, but mine has been apart and back together. I don't know what the writer is referring to concerning the quarter panels and headlight buckets (as compared to other cars). I've restored many cars in the past 35 years and the panel fit on a '57 Chevy is no different than any other mass-produced car of that vintage.
  3. That link sounds like the start of another "urban legend".

    Wood grain

I was thinking about doing my Hudson convertible and from my experience, the woodgraining kit that I was looking at (can't remember the exact kit), the cost of the kit was about the same as having your items professionally done for 1 car.
  5. I always thought that the immediate post-war ('46-'48) Plymouth-Dodge-DeSoto-Chrysler dashes were really pretty.
  6. Actually, one of these old-time hardware stores still exist down the road from me. Seim's Hardware & Welding outside of New Lebanon, Ohio. They will search for 15 minutes for you sometimes for a rare 30 cent fastener. A few times I've had to call them and they answered the phone with "hello". And there is no sign out front!

  13. Before I first rebuilt the front suspension of my '57 Chevy it was really sloppy steering and prone to weaving. I didn't enjoy driving it. When I rebuilt it and before it was aligned, it didn't feel any different than it was before. After it was aligned, it drove (and still does) like a new car. The alignment made all the difference in the world.
  14. I have never had a Rochester fuel injected Chevy but from what I am told is that they sometimes take a lot of tinkering to keep them running good. I would go for the 245hp-283 if you want to drive it frequently. Just my opinion FWIW.
  15. You might get better results if you specify approximately when and where it was sold.
  16. That makes sense. I didn't know that was all the ingredients. I wonder what the cost of it was, being a dealer item? I'm sure windshield washer fluid would be more cost-effective!
  17. You are correct. This sounds normal. There is no noticeable shift when starting in "Drive". There will be a shift if starting in "Low" and manually shifting to "Drive".
  18. Does anyone have an idea on the value of a Winfield Model S float bowl. I have been comissioned to put a couple on Ebay and need to set a reserve. From my research, it appears one is updraft and one is downdraft. I'm having no luck in finding one listed for sale on the internet or a completed auction on Ebay. Thanks.
  19. If I liked it, I wouldn't worry about it. It's a lot better than today's new car mud/puke colors. I always thought the best era for colors was the mid-fifties, and the so called "easter egg colors". I never could understand today's culture whereas pastel colors were somehow "not masculine", but if it's on a Harley, it's ok! I guess time has passed me by.
  20. What is the common replacement for the factory "Turbo-Rocket" fluid?
  21. Don't quite understand the ..."two weeks early for April Fools Day" but I was being sarcastic in my posting. And yes, I KNOW some would have trouble finding a '57 for sale. I see postings like this on other forums also. Another good one is: What color should I paint my car?
