  1. I don't want to hi-jack this thread, but it was a really early failed attempt at electronic fuel injection, and as you said, and I thought the same "it seemed like a good idea at the time" and it could have been, but.......
  2. I always wanted a Cosworth Vega since word went out that GM was coming out with them around 1973 or 1972. Well fifty years later I did get one, and my Father was right, it really was a POS, and I did not regret it in the long run, and at least I can say now I did own one (I let someone else share the joy of owning it after a few years) So if it is your dream go for it, just make sure your wallet is padded.
  3. Ironically, as a follow-up, my State Farm Agent in Florida wanted to meet with me a revue my policy today. I was told even though my record is perfect I should expect a 20% increase because of the abundance of uninsured, and underinsured motorist's in the state. I am not sure my collector policy will be affected as well when that renews.
  4. Billy, my personal experience differs from your generalization. My insurance was more expensive in Florida for the same vehicle in New York, and I was told the reason is because of the higher percentage of uninsured motorist on the road I also see a greater number of marginal vehicles on the road that really should not be, both dangerous for the public, other motorist, let alone the drivers and passengers. I was never a fan of inspections and viewed them as a pain in the butt, but I never neglected my vehicles and I was taught that a failure could mean life or death. A vast of these vehicles would not pass a basic safety check in most state inspections. I really don't get the "red tape" part of your comment, having homes and cars in both NY and FL, I don't notice much of a difference. I did notice homeowners insurance is rather predatory in FL, and seems to be unregulated.
  5. No, that's not the situation, they are just making sure that a "lazy owner" is not selling a vehicle to an unknowing owner with and open safety recall that was not addressed. Is it working harder to have your vehicle repaired for free or to supply a letter as to why a recall is still open? Or is fine to pass of a vehicle that might have a possible dangerous situation unaddressed on the road crating a hazard to other drivers who are also pay for the roads, and also expect insurance companies to offset any incident that may occur. So what it the point your making. When additional damage is found a supplemental claim form should be filed, and the adjusters revaluate the claim. This happens all of the time. I feel that MSN article really left a lot of information out of the story, and if that is the real story it was the owner of the Rivian's fault no more no less. I think we can all agree on that. It's one thing if it is a knock around town $2000 special, but speaking as one who buys a new vehicle every 4-6 years I would never take anything from an insurance company until I would have it a shop I trust and have their adjuster look at the vehicle at that shop
  6. I am aware of the problem, but is a simple letter from the dealer service department stating that the part was not available at that point. I also went thorough that with an engine block heater recall on my present HD Sierra, and ignition switch recall om my last HD Sierra on the transfer to the new owner. The state NY needed that for the title for some reason
  7. There are many possibilities as to why or if the owner of the Rivian had to pay out of pocket for the repair, but one thing for certain is that we don't everything, and there is more to the story then is being told in that article. I never felt comfortable after reading an article and have questions unanswered. What was the author trying to accomplish? I was not informed of anything, other then someone had the misfortunes of a bad day combined with a bad insurance agent.
  8. Why would the owner of the Rivian get hit with the repair bill? Obviously he was hit in the back. I feel that story seems to be missing some information. Having encountered a similar situation a few years back with one of my vehicles it was cut and dry and resolved in a matter of 72 hours, and payment was made to the shop for additional repairs. The collision shop making the repair should have contacted the liable insurance company upon finding additional and filled a supplemental. In this case, the claim if valid would have been adjusted. By the way I don't know of this phenomenon is regional to Florida or not, having been down here for the past month, it seems like the majority of drivers like to tailgate, while distracted on their cell phones. The same intersection I pass everyday is littered with different color plastic bumper parts every day. I also see some real pieces of "junk" on the road held together with duct tape on bald tires that are just plain unsafe vehicles. I was never a fan of Inspections in NYS because it was more of a pain, but when anything goes, it can become rather dangerous. I just purchased a new Cadillac in March this year, traded in my 8 year old Cadillac and my insurance went down, $750 for the year. The replacement value for the new one is way more then the one I got rid of. So if an unfortunate situation were to occur to my vehicle my first concern is that nobody was hurt, second my insurance supplies me with a rental at their cost, so they are looking to expedite the repair to minimalize their expenses. In the case of the Rivian owner, I do feel sorry for that person. My oldest sons neighbor just got one he waited over a year to get it, he paid a lot for it, he is a guy in his late 30's. No different then any of us were at that age as car guys, except it is different type of new car then we might have wanted at that age, but regardless he researched it put money down special ordered it and waited year for it. So there is passion. Just to have someone who was not paying attention slam into the back of it. That will haunt that vehicles value forever now on a carfax
  9. More like $4000. Seems like 53 and 54 Chevy's have gotten real popular in past few years, looks pretty solid and complete. I will buy them all day long in that shape for $500
  10. Did you try contacting Booster Dewey in Oregon? I have used him over the years, he has rebuilt a few boosters, and also had come through with a rare NOS one for me as well. I was very pleased with the service. He also offers plating as well https://www.brakesforlesslynnwd.com/post/power-brake-booster-exchange-now-in-lynnwood-as-of-11-15-2021
  11. I do not even want to go there! I see a few slither past on my property every so often, could not imagine what lives in a junk yard. I think that might have been the area where they found the yard. They said it was about 2 hours north of Ocala and it was pretty overgrown. That would be pretty much the Lake City area. Your right George, I don't like spiders, and really hate snakes, and you they can keep those Florida roaches while your at it!
  12. About 5 or 6 years ago some friends of mine found something in the Big Bend area, they said was worthwhile. I don't recall the name but it was pretty well known. There is WAAAY TOOOO MUCH WILDLIFE for me to go poking around in junk cars in the Sunshine State! I give you credit my friend. I just encountered a some wasp's nest by accident at my house in Ocala, they seemed to the size of small birds. I could only imagine the insect life in a junkyard in Florida. I will try to reach out to get a name and location for you
  13. I was fortunate to have seen him perform live three times. In his prime twice and once in his later years, when his voice was not what it was. He acknowledged that before the performance that he had some health issues and apologized that the songs might not sound the same. Which was very admirable. We still enjoyed the show He was a fantastic songwriter.
  14. Which one Jim's or Battery Central Mall? I know I was getting a run around from different battery manufacturer in Ohio a few back and I had to call my credit card after a few months of "any day now"
  15. Try calling some motorcycle shops they always know of someone. I needed a guy to some rims for me in Florida several years ago and that's what I did and he came by my house and was done in no time. He said he did work for all the local dealerships as well, worth a try. Even look up sign painters, they also do pin striping.
  16. I guess if you dropped out of under grad school it could have an entire different meaning, let alone career path
  17. The seller controls the terms of the sale, if the buyer does not accept they cay can walk, what ever the seller reasons. The car could have been a gift, inherited, we don't know, the seller might their own real legal reasons not known to anyone, Legally there is nothing binding to anyone. What is the amount? There is big difference of someone handing me $10,000 or $275,000 cash.
  18. I can only speak for myself, it's really not nice to accuse people of being a "haters" just because they asked to see of what you based your statement on, then you you refuse to produce it because it will be "pooh-poohed on"? If you have some legitimate facts just present them. Nobody hates you, what's that all about? 3macboysboys researched a source to the EV claim, and the author admits he had no information, it was click bait, it happens Just to point out, that area of Manhattan had some major man made tremors on 9/11/01 that possibly could have caused structural damage that was undetected at the time? Could this have been a residual cause or possible contributing cause? I don't know, but then again none of us do either. I was in close proximity to the 9/11 site and I am now starting to show some major effects as well, same with the crew I was working with 20 years later so why can't a building? I was born and raised in NYC (The Bronx) I currently now live most of the year on Long Island about 25 miles from where garage collapse occurred, and my entire career of 40+ years I worked as an IBEW electrician in NYC, and most of that was as Supervision in high rise commercial construction, and The Javits Convention Center. The NYC DOB is not going to randomly inspect a building because of age, unless there is an open permit or a complaint, considering there is a fatality at this event that information will come out. While I do see EV's there are not a lot of them around in the greater metro area. I just purchased a new car my wife a few weeks ago, and I did intend to purchase an EV, but there was a waiting list for what I wanted and I did not look of the EV Mustang (I only buy American Made cars) While around they are not abundant, the nice ones anyway. The ugly small Tesla's are, they are not my taste. On another note the original Yankee Stadium would have 100 years old this coming Tuesday, it was closed in 2003. I was involved in putting together an estimate for the electrical decommission and conversion to temporary power and maintenance of that power. I was assigned to go on the walk through for the estimate and I was thrilled! I was there hundreds of times as spectator and even worked there as an extra on the U2 and Pink Floyd concerts, but now I was going see the building from with in. The building was beyond repair! It was pointed out that the building where the upper deck was just not safe. There were massive structural cracks in the upper deck that were corrected over the years, but it was the point where that it would it could not be repaired any more. I could spin that the cracks in the upper deck were caused because the fans are fatter 90's then they were in the 50's, which is true, but..... Just keep an open mind, just because people disagree they are not haters
  19. I was thinking the same thing, until "STOP" even though then lens was backwards, but....... still real cool piece. I do like the toggle switch
  20. Really, and where did you that information? Are you involved in the recovery? Do you work or live in the area?
  21. I could have sworn I saw a pile of crap that looked like that on the shoulder of I-75 in Florida near I-10 last week
