  1. Non auto related, I have been collecting NY Yankee Baseball artifacts since I was a kid, I also had several vintage Fender electric guitars strat's and telecaster's with a few Gibson 335's along with a couple of Marshall tube amps, most of the instruments are gone now
  2. I have always bought my wife a new car every 4 years and myself one every 5 years, I am coming up at the five year point now for myself, and I will get another Sierra 2500 Diesel HD, this time 2WD, I never use the 4WD and it sits about 7 inches higher then the 2WD. I might be compressing the timeline on my wife's vehicle. She always had Cadillacs or Buick's with a few Yukon's in between. I had gotten her a CTS last year and I don't like it I find it way too small and difficult for me to get in and out of, it is not the Cadillac I know! I find that I have more room in my Cosworth Vega. I think I am going to take the big hit on it and trade it in at the end of this year. There are just no more big American cars out there anymore, so it might be back to an SUV for her, the few times I do ride in it I need to be able to get in and out of it, without swearing. While my old cars have a place in my life, so do my new ones. We all have heard "They don't make them like they used to" and it is good that they don't, the creature comforts on the new cars are really nice! engines run to 200,000 miles with little to no trouble at all
  3. I was toying with going, that 59 Chevy caught my eye, but I just don't need another car, so I decided to stay away because I know if I just went to look it would be in my garage now, any idea what hat went for?
  4. I have been getting in on Monday evening now for the past few years, Makes Tuesday that much easier, and I leave early Sunday morning, also much easier on the body,
  5. 5 years ago we had to call the rental company because we could not figure it out, and of course the owners manuals are not in the glove box, it was a good laugh at the time
  6. Anyone try to release the emergency brake in a new GM vehicle? There is no lever or handle under the dash on the driver side
  7. I agree 101% with Mr Earl! I sent you (Id114) a PM
  8. I picked up a 1977 Chevrolet Monza Mirage parts car in Michigan two years ago. Car was rough but most everything was there. I found under the seats a 1965, 1966, and a 1967 Topps Mickey Mantle Baseball cards, pretty bad shape and pretty much worthless but growing up as a Mantle fan it was pretty cool to find
  9. NEVER! I think it was more of a regional thing, but nobody in Da Bronx did that I ever saw
  10. I just measured the skirts on my 50 Chevy and they are 30" long and 10 1/2" high. The locking hardware is identical to the one used on my Chevy, I will post a picture of one later tonight
  11. I had heard years ago that the King in Kingsford was a relative of his wife, and we all know who the Ford part was, maybe true? maybe not?
  12. Joe, In this case they will not match, this is close as a match as you will find on any of these small block cars. The engines were built in either Flint or Tonawanda and shipped on rail to the assembly plants, small blocks were pretty much built 2-4 weeks prior to the body assembly, in this case it is two weeks apart. Big blocks are a different story. The numbers provided would be considered matching. The VIN number does not appear on the cowl tag, or the engine, however the VIN being sequential would have to be rather high considering it is a June car. I would guess that it would begin around 210000-230000 This car was the 24,248 V-8 Impala two door hard-top built at Van Nyes CA, based on the body number The VIN would have to begin 1(for the year 1961) 1837 (V-8 Impala two door hard-top) the in this case either V or L for either Van Nyes or Los Angeles. If it were a six cylinder car 1737 on the VIN or the cowl. The VIN number was not stamped on the passenger car 283's and 235 six cylinders. True without the VIN number we can not vouch it is 100% across the board numbers matching, however the engine number given does match the cowl tag. There was no protecto-plate on these year Chevrolets, I know that started after 1964, exactly when I don't know.
  13. The body was made at Van Nyes California the third week of June the engine was assembled on June 9th. The block is a late casting 1961 283 170 HP powerglide (D). 1837 is a two door hardtop V-8 Impala. 936 is ermine white, the "A" is for the insert color I have to look for that I think it is red. Trim 873 is for a red interior. I would consider it matching numbers everything is in the right time line Hope this is of help
  14. Oh I have learned now to be well prepared, I have the brake clean as well as wasp spray. I did find that when you shoot WD-40 with that little red straw and hit a wasp it drops like a rock they can't fly with the oil on their wings!
  15. Growing up in the Bronx (NYC) and living outside of NYC the rest of my life I never saw a snake in the wild until I got this house in Ocala FL. I had seen plenty of rats over the years, Gary that picture reminded me of my first snake encounter two years ago. I learned then that they don't like starting fluid, and made it real easy to whack his head off with a shovel. I have several cans of starting fluid in every building now and a shovel at every outside door way
  16. Well said Todd! This is from a Chevy guy also, many owners of the popular Chevy's do not even regard that there are any other cars then the years and models they own. I always felt many Corvette owners are in denial that they own a Chevrolet. On Long Island there are several popular cruise nights, but greed is starting to get in the way
  17. Hey Dave, This thread has no focus, it is all over the place, a subject gets touched and then you just go in a random direction, sorry but this conversation is not for me, if we were in a parking lot I would walk away, so I am walking away now By the way not that it is going to matter, but the cowl tag on your buddy's wagon if it were police or fire dept. use the cowl tag will say under paint and trim SPL FYI also the 305 HP that you started the conversation (but went somewhere else) had a WCFB on it, 305 HP motors had AFB's, See ya..
  18. Thanks for sharing the code, and I am well aware of them. The other thing I recall reading somewhere that the 305's were specific to Police Vehicles, even though they were listed as an RPO. The breather pipe in the photo you provided is for a truck, a big truck at that. Also truck engines were different colors then passenger cars, those gray valve covers are barking truck to me. I know from 1960 up the truck 348's were gray I did not see the pad so I really don't know what it says. It seems like to me every tri=power car now the owner claims it is a 335 or a 350 HP just because they put on 21/2" manifolds, Almost every supposed hi horse tri power car I had seen is missing the key piece unique to those cars,,,,, the bell housing
  19. 305 HP? I don't know about that breather pipe on 305 I have only seen those tall oil fill pipes on big trucks and school bus 348's
  20. Those Belair Biscayne ones are pretty common also same on lower line 61 cars, however the Impala ones not so much,
  21. Interesting location for a marine engine company, pretty far inland and in the mountains, My oldest went to VA Tech and I remember driving past Natural Bridge VA on the trips
  22. Being somebody mentioned Marine 409's I had come upon these engines about 15 years ago all is left is the valve covers
