  1. Yes they did Perry, they also did a special run of cars commemorating that milestone. I have the production numbers somewhere of those cars I just can't seem to find it. The exterior door handles themselves are a GM corporate part and fit many, many other GM Vehicles. I have to go out now but I will try to get back with the production number later, as I recall I was surprised at the actual number of the Million Vega edition models made was larger then I one would have thought However I did come across the second generation 'H' Body production numbers http://monza.homestead.com/Production.html and there is conflict in the amount of V-8 Sunbirds produced then what Mr P stated to us. In 1978 there were 481 made and in 1979 1773 were made, still rare but not as rare as 66.... Mr P what source did you get the production figure you provided? The source I came upon has states 7X and 27X more were produced which is a large difference, just would like to make sure the correct info gets out there
  2. If I am in the wrong forum please let me know, and I apologize in advance. However many of us have a Diesel tow vehicle and it is an integral part of our hobby as any other tool in our box, I was debating on putting this in the Towing/Trailer forum, but I figured that there is a little more traffic here, and I need advice, and also this could serve as a warning for all of us who have a diesel tow vehicle if this a problem....... Anyway I own a 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Diesel Truck I had bought new, serviced like clockwork whatever the manual states to do and at the recommended mileage. It now has about 62,000 miles. My oldest son expressed interest in purchasing it when ever i decide to trade it in. It was not part of my plan, but he and his family could use a new truck so I saw the new 2017 colors offered liked one or two so I told him that we can start thinking about it. I did tell him living on Long Island that this truck really is not the most practical, and to make sure he and his wife like it that they should try it out. I figured that he would have about 2 1/2 years on the extended GM warranty and about 30,000 miles. I just did not want him not to have any coverage in case any big ticket items fail. They were going to his in-laws house for Thanksgiving so I told him ti use the truck and to make his decision based on that. They were traveling up to Albany NY about 175 miles away. He calls me up Thanksgiving morning and tells me that that warning came on the dashboard informing him "DEF QUALITY POOR 100 MILES LEFT UNTIL REDUCED SPEED" I have OnStar and told him to contact them maybe they can flash the computer or something along those lines. The operator told him that there is no trouble code in the computer that she can read, and of course "take it to a dealer" He was only about 40 miles away so I felt it would be best to bring it back home then have it up in Albany waiting for a sensor or some other part on a holiday weekend. I only use the truck for towing or the long highway drive to my other home in Florida. Last time I used it was my trip to Hershey and it sat in the driveway since. I looked at the box of GM DEF Fluid that have at my house and there is no expiration date on the box My son took his truck to the Dealer in Albany today for service and the technician told him that DEF spoils, I am getting mixed information from what I am finding on the internet, and there is no mention in the owners manual that the DEF can spoil. I think it is a sensor that has failed, but you know that the dealer is going to want to drain the tank and regenerate the system. The tech also told my son that this is a common problem, and that it can spoil in 60 days. Have any of you here had this problem or know of anyone who has? The part that is strange is that my useage of the truck has been the same since I took delivery. Drive it 3,000 miles then it sits for 3 months, and never had a problem. I am expecting to get jerked around from the Dealer on this but I do save every receipt and record everything in a log book as far as service, fuel (date, cost, when, where, how much and MPG). The DEF I used has always been GM and most of the time the dealer tops it off on the oil change. except once this summer I needed it on a Sunday and used 2 1/2 gallons of the Blue DEF. I know I can not be the only one who uses their tow vehicle just for towing, so all of us are subject to this problem if the stuff spoils Thoughts or opinions please
  3. That is why I started this thread I was hoping someone would know or knew someone who was familiar how this was done
  4. At least you have fun losing the money! I rather have a young foreign one then an old domestic one
  5. There were no factory four door hard-top wagons made in that era
  6. So you think every piece was done by hand? I million cars is four million hub caps........ a lot of labor and time
  7. Would the Sure Shot sign paint stick to those types of metal with no primer?
  8. Here is a stainless piece, we are talking millions of pieces across the entire GM line
  9. True the small caps were brass, but this same process was used on stainless, chrome, and aluminum parts as well. The parts below are aluminum. There was no evidence of etching or primer under the paint on those parts as well.......
  10. More Items from my friend, new in the box looks like a mounting pin is missing, too bad but I am sure something can be made. Another piece of aftermarket automotive history $45 domestic shipping included. PM me if interested, I like to use paypal thanks again
  11. Again more things I am sorting through for my friend. I thought that this was a Pontiac only aftermarket part, but at Hershey this year I was told otherwise and even found this nice HPOF 39 Chrysler with one on. I also thought it would come as a pair but also told that they were mainly installed on the right side to help guide in and out of garage spaces. It is in pretty nice shape and a real neat period piece of automotive history. $50 domestic shipping included, I like to use paypal, please PM me if interested Thanks
  12. Thanks, I had owned this car for 30 years, and was on the road and pretty nice all original paint car until I damaged it pulling it on the trailer, not able to match the paint I decided to repaint the entire car and one thing lead to the next so..... now about 20K later and more to go. My goal is to have it ready for the Southeast Meet in Ocala this February. It got a Junior in 2003 but the condition of the originality of the car would never allow it to get a senior. This is coming out better then my 62 Biscayne so I am taking my time now. As far as your trim you will need the metal to get good and warm as well as the paint, be prepared for frustration! I found it worked best with very light coats. After trying to replicate this finish it raised the question "How did they do this?" and also transport all of these parts without damage,
  13. This is another item I was asked to sell by my elderly friend. He said it worked and the closer I looked it might even be new looking at the envelope with the mounting kit and instruction card that was included, however I would have it gone through capacitors do not last over time.. It is a model #826 I would like to list here before it goes on ebay. $250.00 domestic shipping included I like paypal. Please PM me with any questions Thanks
  14. I had just done some of this and I used a SEM product for stainless and aluminum, I used a 3M fine line masking tape for the edges, it was very time consuming. I also found the hard way to wait as long as possible to remove the tape. The edges were soft and the paint would pull of with the tape, So far so good. Don't forget to wipe down with prep-sol.
  15. I know of a member who has a demo kit showing the stamping process for both the Chevrolet and Oldsmobile full size wheel covers, it has a sample showing each step of the stamping process. There is about 15-17 different steps, He said he got from a guy who worked for a company that pressed them out. Looks like they passed it off to another vendor for paint and polish. Next time I meet up with him I will try to get some photos.
  16. I am helping an older member in region sell off some of his stuff. He believes this belt is for a 1950 Pontiac and really is more garage wall art, it seems pretty hard and mechanically useless but the cardboard sleeve would look cool on a Pontiac collectors wall. $30 includes US domestic shipping. If it were for a Chevrolet it would be on my wall! PM me if interested
  17. The other day a few of my buddies were in my garage and were admiring the set of NOS hubcaps I just picked up and this question came up. How did they apply paint on the chrome, stainless and aluminum trim in production and the detail that was maintained? Plus the paint they used did not lift after all of these years. Just using Chevrolet for example they produced almost 1 million vehicles a year, that is 4 million wheel covers and hubcaps. What ever they did it had to be fast, it is pretty hard to imagine a stencil because placement and "paint loading" would be time consuming and somewhat labor intensive. Also the material that was used seems to pass the test of time. Anybody know?
  18. I only want to ride in a Caddy wagon once and that will be at the end of my life
  19. It is for a Chevy, the base is missing that secure it to the radiator. There is a difference between 1930 and 1931, I do not recall what it was, but they only work on the year that were made for. Rare to find one one with the "wings" not broken, they seem to get clipped by the hood when it opens
  20. Isn't the trunk key the same as the door key?
  21. Mr P. How mush of a load are you towing with your Jeep? What is the GVW of your Jeep, Your house that you are dragging behind you has to weigh close to 4500-5000 lbs, correct? Marty the 38 gallon tank would would have been nice but the largest tank was 28 on my 2012. I pretty much have the same trailer V nose and all, I get 10-11 MPG empty or full with the diesel, and with the gas 2500 I was between 7-8 and with 28 gallon tank I was looking for fuel real fast. I traded it in after a year and got beat up real bad on that one
  22. Marty, I was not questioning your tow set-up if go back and read my post I also quoted Mr Padgett, my comment about towing on the edge was referring to his set-up, sorry for the confusion. Your set-up pretty much mirrors mine, although I did not like the gas version of the 2500, fuel tank was too small and MPG's with an 8' trailer are pretty bad with wind resistance. I will see you in Ocala I am lucky the show field is only about 3 miles from my house in Ocala, I plan on bringing 5 cars, 4 HPOF cars and 1 class judged. I am finishing restoring my 60 Impala that I had gotten a Junior with in 2003. Sorry for that
  23. True, only a problem if you need any plastic interior parts, non existent! Mechanical parts on some are even difficult to find
