1. 58 Cad used a Treddle-Vac booster. Mounted vertical toboot. Cad used this booster on 56 and 58 ONLY. In 56 it was mounted nearhorizontal. This unit can cause problems including hard pedal from a dried outleather diaphragm or just plain failure. The unit can be rebuilt, but goodcores are real scarce. As for the rest of the system, the brakes are not selfadjusting and must be adjusted regularly depending on your driving style andother factors.
2. "Edit: Ifa car is considered a total loss AND the insurance companies pays the insuredthey have little recourse in most instances but to assign a salvage title tothe vehicle. Put yourself in the position of a future buyer." Little Recourse? This is just a policy decision that they have total controlover and do not consider what restoration process can take place to recover orto SAVE and re-introduce collector vehicles back into the hobby. It is our dutyto future generations to save and protect our vehicles and to protect them frompencil pushing actuaries sitting desk bound stamping SALVAGED JUNK across ourtitles. I have had three cars come through my shop that have Salvage designation. Ichallenge anyone to inspect these cars and show me why it is that they havebeen given this stamp of disapproval. Attaching a Salvage designation to some cars is certainly a good idea, but thepractice needs to be a bit more of an agreed process and perhaps there could bea process where the title is cleared. You must agree that saving a wrecked or soiled 1940 Fordvs. A 2012 Fiskar is just not going to be comparable at all.. The 40 Ford is avery simple car worthy of and easily restored so that no old damage will remainor ever cause secondary failure.
3. I have been involved with recovering flood damaged collector cars. LOTS of WORK for SURE but still far better than allowing them to be haled off as JUNK... One thing I do not like to see is insurance companies tagging the SALVAGE lable on them. This is a common practice if they have paid a claim over the value determined by them. OWNERS of damaged cars need to be sure they stand firm about the actuall value and demand that NO Salvage lable be applied o the record. Edit: If a car is considered a total loss AND the insurance companies pays the insured they have little recourse in most instances but to assign a salvage title to the vehicle. Put yourself in the position of a future buyer.
4. Matt, Did you try the water squirt trick? That should do it.. You have a vacuum leak.. Tighten ALL the carb screws!
5. Old cowl lamp project— This is what I need to complete the project. Seems like I saw them in someone’s catalog I have—but can’t remember EVERYTHING! Lamps are similar to C.M. Hall headlights of the early 20’s
6. Very true --- I have never understood the "I want a barnd new car" menatailty. Seems crazy to me to need the latest pizazzmobile out of the local new car dealer. One of the guys that stops in to check out what I have in the shop, bought a pizazzmobile in 2000. He paid 72,000 for this thing-- HAD to have it cuz it was just what all the guys at the country club were talking about... He stopped in the other day to tell me he ordered a NEW pizazzmobile and his OLD ONE was for sale for 15 grand... I did a quick search to see what others like his were going for... Seems the average is about 8 grand.. What a BATH he will take on that thing! Better to buy the 57 Buick
7. Owner just asked me why the car does not sell. I told him it must be the economy. Certainly not the car. GEEZ, why would anyone shell out for a new tin can car when you can get a REAL Piece of American Iron for the same money?
8. Treadle-Vac 1956 -- Hydro Vac 57-- Treadle Vac 1958 All unique and have differing "probelms" to deal with when servicing.
9. DANG! Computer crashed and I am lost without my vendor file! I bought these in the past and now can NOT remember where I got them. Maybe "Oldtimer's" is catching up with me? Am I supposed to remember EVERYTHING? Need the window with frame for a 31 Roadster top. I even asked my upholstery shop if they remembered.. No Luck.. They have Oldtimer's Too!
10. Drove my 41 Cadillac to WallMart to pick up a pizza. Then back home to drag out my 57 Chevy that has not seen daylight since 2003. Hosed off all the spiders, aired up the tires and drove it around the house.. Dang insurance company wants pictures of it. NO WAY I was oing to take pictures of it back in the corner covered with 10 years of dust. Pretty cool that after some pre-checks it started--- must have done the right pre-storage stuff back then! Even the brakes work fine. Then headed out in the 65 Cadillac to check out my buddies 50 Chevy pickup he just got back from the paint shop. Today after NASCAR the plan is to work on the 1922 American laFrance.
11. Yep-- Drier Sheets -- No More mothballs --- Air and fan works to get rid of the mothball smell---- almost
12. YES-- great stuff.. Use it all the time
13. Well, I put it on ebay not thinking to list it here first. 1965 Chevrolet Impala SS Console with Clock | eBay
14. I need some of the brackets like Ford T used with the flat spade type mounting. These were riveted to the main lamp body with 4 small rivets. This bracket then slipped over the spade attached to the car and the lamp was held in place by the one set screw in the bracket. Size is about 2" square spade slot is about 1 1/4 X 3/16
15. Owner had the painter send them out. I dont know who did it. They did a NICE job on them.
16. Black four door sedan - Very ice survivor type of car. HPOF? Drives great- Looks Great. ONE drawback, the interior was redone in wrong material. Looks kind of like correct patern, just wrong cloth. SURE you could drive it home. It is the Napa Valley, California. 10,000
17. Hey Mike, If ya tell us where you are, we could help a bit better--- Heck if you are in Maine and I am in California, it would cost as much as a complete parts truck to get a set of doors sent cross country.
18. I posted pictures in the For Sale General Items section. Nice 57 Convertible. One owner the last 31 years. Only 900 miles added in the last 31 years. Red/White with red interior and white top. Not a show car, just a very solid decent driver. Some new chrome, some fair, some OK, some could use a re-plating. Runs very good Very nice driving Buick $45,000. The car is in Napa California 50 miles north of San Francisco Bay. Rod7072877506
19. Nice driver quality 57 Buick. Same owner 30 years. Driven 900 miles in the last 31 years. Not a show car, but is a great runing good looking honest Buick with very good floors and sheetmetal. Never a rusty car. Yes, it could use some cleanup, under hood is not detailed at all. But original and very good. Yes, the red was added in recent years. I have a road test video on youtube. I am helping the owner sell the car. I have it here at my place in Napa, Ca. $45,000 is his price. You can call 707 287 7506 for more info or email funcars4us@hotmail.com for pictures or questions.
20. I made my own set. Much nicer to have them than the chain style that chip paint.
21. I am out in Napa Valley California. The convertible ASKING Price is 48,000 Thanks for the suggestion!
22. Figured it would help if I posted a picture. This is what the wheel I need looks like. ANYONE got one?
23. I have two 57 Buicks on ebay at the moment. The red and white Super convertible and the 4 door hardtop in Garnet Red and Antique Ivory. The hardtop is my car. I had it on eBay a few weeks ago and three bidders took it up to 8000 which was just fine. Then the winning bidder made excuses for three weeks until I just called him and said I gave him enough time to follow through, then relisted the car yesterday. DANG guys that bid in cars they cant pay for! Strange guy, HE CALLED ME to ask if he could just pay it all at once instead of send the PayPal deposit. Anyway, the convertible is a pretty good car too. I listed it for a member of the Buick Club that has had it for over 30 years. Only driven it about 900 miles in those 30 years! So, yes it is a low mile original. That car should be worth a bit over 50,000.
