  1. Thanks Roberta, I knew they were somewhere but couldn't find them without your link. There are some great photos there that many visitors to the site may not be aware of. Unless there is another link to them other than in the "ABOUT" section that I haven't seen may I suggest a second link in the more prominent "BCA NATIONAL MEET" banner on the fron page where the 2007 National photos are already promoted. Thanks again and I look forward to seeing some nice photos of the 2008 Nationals. (planned to get there but now not able to........but there's always next year)
  2. I have been searching this site and others for photos of previouse BCA Nationals with no luck. I know that there were a good selection here in the past but now I can't find any other than last year and not many of those. Can anyone point me to some collections of photos of previous BCA National meets including the 2003 Centenary at Flint? Thanks
  3. Sounds Like perfect Aussie to me I think it's in our dictionary isn't it Stuart <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: serb</div><div class="ubbcode-body">Hey Stuart, I like that expression, <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:</div><div class="ubbcode-body">I'll shout the first round!!! </div></div> stevo </div></div>
  4. This exact problem happened to a friend of mine last year. His car wasn't a 57 Buick it was a 60's chrysler but the symptom was the same. He had to replace a fuse for the wipers when it blew and tried to do so at night time so he could drive the car home in the rain. He pulled the blown fuse and replaced it with a good one while straining to see under torch light. He then started the car.......wipers worked fine and off he went home. Got home and tried to turn the car off and it would not turn off no matter what he did in the end I think he had to disconect the battery. I won't go into the full story of what he did to the cat to try to rectify the problem but he spent a lot of time and head scratching wondering what the heck was wrong He decided to retrace his steps starting with the fuse box and found that the new fuse was sitting wrongly in the fuse box. Instead of being in it's correct position it was sitting in between the wiper fuse position and another(I'm guessing ignition?) and so it was effectively hot wiring the car so that once it was turned on it was preventing it from turning off. I don't know the layout of a 57 fuse box or if the same scenario is possible but the stories are so similar I thought I would share his story just in case that may be your problem. Before you go pulling everything apart and attacking starters etc have a look at the positioning of the fuses to ensure no crossover has happened. As my friend said in the end.............it's most always the simple things that cause the problem and very often they are overlooked because we think something more dramtic has happened. Hope you have success
  5. John, Here is a question you may be able to answer for me. If the base of a carter 4 brl (off my 65 Wildcat 401) is corroded from excessive heat/gases is it able to be repaired or do I need to find a better base? I know they should have a stainless steel plate there between the base and the manifold but mine was missing and the base of the carb is noticeably damaged from heat. Rebuildable or do I need to find another?
  6. Who do members recommend as suppliers of carpets for 50's to 60's Buicks. I'm looking for a Top quality carpet set.

Since before Christmas we have been getting very hot weather with tomorrow and the next day forcast to be 42C which is about 108F. It was 111F on New Years day and I just about melted driving my 65 Wildcat convertable ( with the top down) to our Buick Club luncheon. Thankfully there have been some cooler days (80F) in between the days of hot weather. GSJOHN - I liked your photos as elll and expect that the same landscape would look just as wonderfull in Spring and Fall

  9. Pat?? Hi from a fellow BCA member in Victoria and welcome to the Forum If you have no luck in finding some answers from Phil Green send me a PM or email me and I will give you a contact number for a guy in Melbourne who has a very good knowledge of these transmissions and has rebuilt quite a few with good reports from the owners. Hope you have luck with your quest and keep us updated. Also as the message to the left requests it would be nice if you could please post your name as it makes it much more personal to be able to chat with someone knowing their name not just a "Handle" Best Regards Brian Flynn buickman@bigpond.net.au

I hope that evryone has a happy and safe Christmas. Stuart, perhaps you would like to slip over to the East Coast of Australia to Victoria where it is a pleasant 25C (77F)and have a couple of beers with us. Or you could wait till New Years Eve when your weather arrives here and it will be 38C (100F) The Wildcat will definitely have the top down on the way to our Buick Club New years Day Luncheon. I think the Wildcat is enjoying summers much more now than when it used to live in Minnesota

  12. CFBUICK............I would prefer a hardtop thanks anyway. Actually there are quite a few 49 convertables in Australia already but only a couple of sedanettes. John.......A 49 Riviera would be interesting so when you can please send me some photos. Thanks.
  13. Yep, Sure would be fine to be driving a sleek '49 Anyone out there got one they are willing to part with?

  18. Her in Australia I have seen quite a few 30's and 40's Buicks with A/C added to them. Usually the underdash units and electrics converted to 12 Volt. I know of 2 34 8/40's that were stock standard original cars that had A/C fitted as they were used as wedding cars. It can be done and would be just a matter of mixing and matching the right components (compressors etc). I have a feeling the smaller compressors from Some Japanese cars have been successfully used. If you want a contact in Australia that did the conversion to the 34's email me and I'll look them up. Email me at buickman@bigpond.net.au
  19. Is there anyone in or near Fenton, Missouri that would be able to help by checking out a Buick that is for sale? PM me or Email me at buickman@bigpond.net.au Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
  20. I have used Autosol metal polish with great results. Comes in a tube like toothpaste and is similar to apply but has more abrasion (not too much) so will clean up plastic fittings very well. Used it on a 48 horn button with a plastic insert recently and it came up like new. I have used it on many different plastic fittings on early buicks and always had great results. And of course it good for the chrome as well. You can see it at this link http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/produ...m_mmc=undefined

Perhaps I'm just getting sentimental in my old age and getting more like Past-President Meyer in that the people of the hobby are a big reason for being in it. Just before locking up the garage though, I found myself talking to the '56, hoping it would answer my questions about what to do with it. </div></div> Derek, Sounds like you had a very enjoyable time. Next time you open up your garage for show and tell give me more notice as the travel time from Australia is a killer I totally agree with your comments regarding the "people of the hobby are a big reason for being in it" At times I have been without a Buick (may God forgive me) to take on a club run or even to a National Meet but wild horses would not have kept me from going. It never ceases to amaze me that you can meet so many nice people and of course the added bonus is that they share the same interests as yourself.

  23. Still looking. will consider a low mile 66 GS Riv as well buickman@bigpond.net.au
  24. Now that's a nice 38 But to find it after the auction makes me sad I have seen a car similar to this one (or it may have been this one) and thought then that it was a nice color. If I could find one like this I'd be a happy Man.
