  1. Thanks, Willis, I totally agree with you, I told the BCA Board, after the first issue came from Pete, that we had not hired an " Editor ", as we proposed we do, but indeed an " Editor/Writer ". And there is a difference. The huge amount of positive comments and praise prove this. He has already noted that when he writes a story on a particular subject, he gets more information on the subject from a reader, later. When he wrote on the '24, and then the '33, comments and stories came in later from the members, it has a way of sparking interest, and that what makes it great. Calling it a " Reference " magazine has a very good ring to it, now these magazines will probably be kept for reference, not just as " Old magazines ". Thanks, Paul
  2. Just a "Heads up" to my fellow BCA members, the April issue has had some problems, and will not be shipped out on time, so, it will probably be about a week late. This notice is being sent out to try to quelch the many concerns about late delivery. Patience, patience, patience. Please don't call Mike at the office about late delivery, he knows about it, and can't fix it, Thanks, Paul Meyer, BCA President.
  3. I came into contact with one of these engines, it was a replacement engine that was put into a car. I won't go into the details of how I know this. But, the odd thing about it, all the cast in place numbers were not Buick numbers, they were Chev. style numbers, starting with '9'. The parts, heads, block, etc. were all identical with the Buick, but the casting numbers were different. So, Chev. must have cast their parts. When you refer to Hollander Interchange Manuals, you can see all this. I also came across a '57 Chev. firetruck with a Nailhead in it, Paul
  4. Do you know if Lee Wintersteen still has his '39 Century with the Sunshine Turret top, my car came from South Dakota. I'm wondering if its the same car, since I can't find another. thanks, Paul
  5. William, I will take the lug bolt, lug nut set at $49.00 plus shipping. Give me your phone # if you would, thanks, Paul 314-291-6770
  6. I have a '39 model 61, and the ID plate has Model 61-A, and the car has the Sunshine Turret Top, and I was wondering if possibly the "A" could signify the Turret Top. Any help will be appreciated, thanks, Paul
  7. I am trying to figure out what my ID plate means, and I see you have a '39 model 61. My model number is 61-A. My car has the factory Sunshine Turret Top, and I was wondering what your ID plate says, and if possibly the "A" signifies the Sunshine Turret Top. Let me know, if you would. Thanks, Paul
  8. Adam, call me sometime, and I will put some pictures of my "y-job" clone on this thread, I have never done it, and maybe you can guide me thru it, Paul
  9. I don't know about the 2 doors, but the model 51 and 71 will not fit. There are 2 models of the Super and Roadmaster 4 door cars, the model 51 and 52, and 71 and 72. Hope this helps, Paul
  10. The '50, '51, '52, '53, model 52 and 72 should all be the same. Paul
  11. Have no fear about me driving around with spacers behind the Kelsey Hayes wheels, I took them off immediately. I personally don't think they look right anyway. I put a set of 72 spoke wheels on it once, looked real nice, but, I just keep it stock, the regular wheel covers and wide whites look fine to me. By the way, I know of one case where a spacer cost a guy a wheel, skirt and fender on a 47 Cad. when it came off, scarey. And he was in the middle of the bridge crossing the Mississippi in St. Louis. Ground the whole bottom off the backing plate, etc. by the time he got stopped, so, be careful, Paul
  12. My original low mileage '57 Roadmaster convertible has aluminum finned drums, and steel backing plates. Now, here's another thing for discussion. Kelsey Hayes spoke wheels will not fit these drums, the fins stick out too far, and you cannot tighten the lug bolts, it just keeps bending the center part of the wheel, and that is not a good thing to do. I had to put spacers on to make them tighten correctly. Apparently, the fins on the cast steel drums do not stick out as far, therefore, the wheel will fit flush with the mounting surface. Paul
  13. Julian, I know this is a Buick forum, but, I have a lot of 42 Olds parts, contact me if you need something, Paul 314-574-9853
  14. zI don't think so, but I have a '55 stick shift, complete trans, linkage, bellhousing, pedals etc, don't know about the motor, but I think I have that too, Paul
  15. Jim, I have 3 complete motors, or just heads, whatever you may need. But, you have to take them out, or we could pull the heads, whatever you want to do. Just let me know, they are about 70 miles south of St. Louis. Paul Meyer
  16. Leon, if you want to find out where heat is generating, or not, invest in an Infrared Hand held temperature gun. I bought one a couple of years ago when my '65 Wildcat seemed to be overheating, but proved with the gun that it was an over-sensitive sending unit. The red lite would come on as soon as I shut the ignition off. When I checked on the input side of the radiator, and then the exit side, I found that everything was okay, was not overheating. It costs about $100 at your local parts store. It can be used for all sorts of things, checking temp of tires, bearings, which cylinder is dead or not, its really an invaluable tool. Paul
  17. It has just been approved, the Judging Manual will be put on the web-site. I think it is in Roberta's hands now, so, it will be done, have confidence. Paul Meyer
  18. The Buick Bugle has a new editor, Pete Phillips from Texas. Pete has been a member of the BCA since 1977, and is extremely knowledgable on Buick cars and history. He has several college degrees, but most importantly, a degree in Antique Auto Restoration from McPherson college in Kansas. He has also done a considerable amount of editing and writing on automotive subjects. He has served as Head judge, held various offices in the local chapters, and served as a board member of the BCA for several years. We wish you luck in your new endeavor. Paul Meyer, President, BCA
  19. Keith, good to hear that you weren't hurt. Remember one thing, those NEW cars can be fixed or replaced, the old ones CAN'T. I always tell people, If you're going to hit one of my cars, you better be sure its a new one. Paul
  20. Very interesting car, but, if you notice the serial number, it is not the correct serial number plate for the car. It should be spot welded on, not pop riveted, and Roadmasters all start with a 7, not a 4. 4 is Special, 5 Super, 6 Century, and 7 is for Roadmasters. Buyer may have a problem getting it titled, depends on the state regulations. Paul
  21. I would like to recognize each and every individual, and Chapter in the upcoming Bugle as promised, for their generosity in donating to the 'what was then called Katrina ' relief fund, but since then, many other disasters have occurred, and are still occurring. In order to do this, it would be much easier if I had a short comment from each Chapter/Individual stating what amount was given. I have heard of some Chapters that have given, and are not on this forum. If anyone knows of these Chapters, it would be greatly appreciated if I could hear from you. Thank you in advance, Paul Meyer, President, Buick Club of America. [color:\\"blue\\"]
  22. In order to make sure the lenses fit, you will need to get the number off the back of the tail light frame. There are a couple of different ones, but they all look the same, but are different, Paul
  23. John, finally got around to looking for a grille, and I have a NOS grille, with the mustache, I need $225, plus shipping, which should amount to about $25. Let me know, Paul
  24. Sounds like you may have a bad master cylinder, but a good vacuum booster. Paul
