  1. Thanks Gearhead! I'll have to wait and see. The car is in the shop right now. The mechanic claims its just a small hole on the bottom and he plans to just weld them. I will keep you in mind in case of the tank is not repairable.
  2. Can any one tell me if a 57 Chevy gas tank will fit on a 57 Roadmaster. Any idea what would fit?
  3. Thanks for the reply. I plan on taking the car in to have it serviced and will let everyone know what was wrong. I think it is a timing and vacuum issue but I'm no mechanic.
  4. I just got my car back from the exhaust guy and what do you know BAD NEWS. My gas tank has a hole in it. So no exhaust for me...Good ol Hagerty would not tow it from a shop only if i was stranded. I tried to tell them that it had a hole in the tank but they still would not do it. They said if I run out of gas then they will. Smart ones. Anyway the car ran real sluggish taking off. A lot of clicking in the motor but when I put it in park I dont here a thing it just ran fine. where should I start?
  5. So far I have changed the plugs, wires, fuel filter, cap and rotor. I have not changed the ignition coil. What I also found behind the exhaust before I took it in was an oil stain with a chunk of clotted oil. In which, I have no clue exactly where it came from.
  6. I just got my tranny rebuilt and while test driving the mechanic said the car lacks power. 57 roadmaster. What would your advice be and where should I start first. I haven't yet driven the car because its at the exhaust shop now I'm going off of his exam. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  7. Thanks for everyones help. :TU: I finally solved the overheating problem. First, I got rid of the heat riser then I changed the thermostat to 160 degrees. According to the manual that is what im suppose to have. Oh and by the way it was out of gas. Thanks again everyone
  8. I was thinking that also and I hope you are right...
  9. Well, I got the flange out today. I couldn't check because it would not stay running(oh boy). I think my fuel pump stop working. I changed the fuel filter and put everything back together and it would not start. I noticed there was no gas in the filter glass so I unhooked the side that reads IN just to see if anything would come out and there was nothing. I even tried to start it while it was off and nothing. Does anyone have some advice for me before I shoot the darn thing.
  10. The heat riser is open about 25% I'm planning on taking it out this weekend.(I HOPE) If that doesn't work then i'll buy the tempature gauge to read the temp.
  11. Thanks JD, I couldn't tell if the flange was turning so I unhooked the manifold from the exhaust pipe to see it clearly. I can turn the counter weight but it does not turn the stem and flange inside. I tried carb cleaner and PB blaster and still no luck to turn it. This was with the car not running. I figured that if I turned the counter weight everything else would move with it. Maybe I'm wrong. I guess I will continue to put PB on it until it soaks in.
  12. Well, well. I tried moving what I think is the heat riser to open the exhaust, Which was on the other side of the spring itself. I didn't see the spring move nor do I know if its suppose to. I guess now I will take off the exhaust pipe to actually look inside of the manifold. I don't know if its opening or not. This is really bothering me. I want to say its a bad gauge but to afraid i will harm the motor. I'am not sure how to test the gauge. Boy do I need a drink.
  13. Well, I got the stop lights to work thanks to The Old Guy. I bled the heater hose, still the same after that but then I looked in the service manual and found a section about the exhaust manifold valve. It says if stuck in the closed position it will cause overheating. Since this car has been sitting up for some time I think this will solve my problem. (I hope) Next weekend I will try to see if that is it. I'll probably change the thermostat for the second time just to be safe. Be back soon.
  14. On my 57 Roadmaster I got the rear cylinders and front right from Advance auto part store for about $11 and got the front left from Napa. Noone else had the front left for some crazy reason. The brake spring set I got from oldbuickparts.com but autozone sales them also.
  15. Thanks alot everyone. I'm going to try all these things this weekend if the weather permits. Hopefully it will take care of these problems. I will post back next week if completed.
