When you say the car was shot did you mean worn out or are you eluding to the hundreds of bullet holes!! ? Howard Dennis
  2. I need my 1917 Maxwell hubcaps re-nickeled and am worried the Maxwell script will be blurred or filled in by copper plating used to hide the flaws. Has anyone had experience with a plater that will re-engrave script while it is in copper so it appears as new when the last coating is applied? Howard Dennis
  3. Gary, let me look through my parts, I may be able to help you. Howard Dennis
  4. Thanks Gary, I 've always thought I had that option, I just wanted to keep it authentic looking as long as I could find viable replacements. Howard Dennis
  5. Has no one on here ever ran into something cobbled up on their car 20, 30 even 50 years after the original builder last touched it?? I can't get over how hung up on this one detail you guys are! Howard Dennis
  6. Carguy12, could you post links to where else this car is being debated? I just want to see if you are getting this much flak elsewhere or just here? Howard Dennis
  7. I finally gave up trying to figure out how to make such a poorly designed seal work and decided to modernize it . I took everything to a machinist and he is going to make flanges that screw to the hub and have modern press in seals. It will end up costing me only slightly less than a complete differential swap would have but at least I won't have to worry about grease getting all over my new brake bands and wheels. Howard Dennis
  8. Have you tried this fellow? Taillightking Web Site
  9. Mike, it's been a few years since I lived in New York but I seem to recall their Motor Vehicle Inspections don't allow copper brake lines even when original equipment. Might pay to check before you invest more labor. Howard Dennis

    1916 Maxwell

Your Maxwell originally had a large battery that was divided into 2 halves of six volts apiece. It start on 12 volts and runs and charges from the starter/generator as a 6 volt. The starter becomes a generator after the engine starts and is then driven by the leather fan belt. Howard Dennis
  11. Has anyone ever put front or rear wheel seals in a 1916-17 Maxwell? I have the new felt inner seals but can't figure what holds these seals in. It appears as if there is only about 1/8 of an inch of the sheet metal housing holding the seal to the hub??? This seems doomed to fall off soon after assembly. Anyone?? Howard Dennis
  12. Rhd export model. Is that an accessory directional beside the left headlight? Howard Dennis
  13. Just in case someone has a jar full of unidentified condensors, here is what I need, some have the tails drilled and some just have tiny metal tabs for contact. They measure 2 1/2 inches long. Howard Dennis
  14. They recommended I go to Radio Shack. Howard Dennis
  15. Want to buy one or a pair of top holdowns for a 1916-1917 Maxwell convertible. They fasten on to the front bow with two screws and have a spring loaded latch to fasten to the windshield post. Howard Dennis
  16. Thanks I worked with them several years ago when they rebuilt my coils and voltage regulators. Great guys even greater work. Trouble is they have no parts for the Atwater-Kent distributors. Howard Dennis
  17. This was posted on the Model T Forum and they were wondering what this car/truck conversion started life as?
  18. Check here for ideas for your speedster project: Photos of Northwest Vintage Speedsters Howard Dennis
  19. I"m going to keep my fingers crossed you are right as I'm worried about not having enough room inside my distributor for anything but an original condensor as it it such an uncommon design. Howard Dennis
  20. Thanks Ron, I have a few originals that I suppose would give me an average value. Who or how do I get them valued? Howard Dennis
  21. Would I be safe in just requesting a 6 Volt condensor for my 1917 Maxwell with an Atwater-Kent Type CC distributor? Or do I need to know the original value? Howard Dennis
  22. Thanks Ron for your answer. Any idea how you would find out the original value for an almost 100 year old system like my Atwater-Kent Type CC equipped 1917 Maxwell? Howard Dennis
  23. I'd also like to know this as I've heard some say Radio shack capacitors can replace obsolete condensors. How do I know what value I need? Howard Dennis
  24. Thanks Kelvy, I was able to locate one. Howard Dennis
