  1. Joe, Isn't yours "in the wild"? I would think an installed part would be "in captivity"
  2. Not sure about 58's, but red wheels were an option with full wheelcovers, and body color wheels were the option for small "dog dish" hubcaps. Black wheels would have been standard. Again, not sure that is true on a 58. Whitewall width is one of those things that people worry too much about, in my opinion. If it is 3" vs 2 1/2", who really cares? (Concours and other very high level judging aside) Now if they were like a four inch whitewall, they would just look too big. Can't help ya on the possibly extraneous bombsight.
  3. You can only drive one at a time! Your Roadmaster should prove to be very dependable, I've driven my Special all over the country. They are marvelous touring cars, and you should be proud to own such a lovely car.
  4. Well, it looks great in the pictures. Enjoy!
  5. That is the one piece of NOS chrome that comes up all the time on eBay. Keep your eyes peeled. I guarantee there will be one available within the month.
  6. I'm not sure what color they called it originally, but whatever "apple green" color they sell is correct. Should be the same as all 53-66 V-8s. (not including Rivieras, but you were asking about a Special).
  7. If you are just needing the cardboard, any upholstery place near you should have it. I used 1/4" luan plywood in my Special since it is even more water resistant than the water resistant cardboard that upholsterers use.
  8. A.) Way to go Sid. B.) Good thinking.
  9. I got around to pulling the windshield. No other progress. Little League, helping with school, work, etc. I'm feeling Adam's pain re: money for the project, but I can't get motorvated to work on the car with all of the other things in my life going on right now. I'm not complaining, just letting y'all know why the pics aren't coming fast and furious...
  10. Shaun, Click on the flashing envelope at the top of your screen. You have a PM.
  11. I would think you would get better advice and a more enthusiastic crowd at the H.A.M.B. Those guys would be able to tell you what to do to achieve the drop you desire.
  12. Derek, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. Check impalabobs.com the Chevy dealers often times have them cheaper.
  13. Are the convertible mechanism parts the same between Buick Specials and Chevy Novas? I know for a fact that the large series GM 1961-1964 use the same latches, weatherstripping, etc. If so, then buy new repros from a Chevy dealer. There, I am participating in this old, moldy thread now!
  14. The inner fenders and wheel wells should be satin to semigloss black
  15. Forgive the highjack above, Cobra. Your engine stuff looks great. I had been thinking about buying one of those dual units, I'm glad I have a recommendation for the Eastwood version.
  16. There was a show on one of the high-definition car shows (way high on the tv "dial") that was following Wayne Carini (a high dollar auto restorer) at an auction in, I believe California where the sheriff department came out and was checking VIN numbers against the titles of the cars for sale. Some of the cars had their VIN tags removed in the course of the restorations. The sheriffs halted the auction and were threatening to impound the cars. These were VERY expensive collector cars. The tv program showed some of the examples of screwed on and pop riveted tags, all of which were under suspicion. I have seen some cars with some sort of pookie over top of the rivets from the factory. Also, I believe most cars had painted VIN tags anyway since they were installed before paint. I would personally leave it on and put a couple of layers of duct tape or similar protection during the blasting process just to be safe. Even rounded non pop rivets that an Airstream supplier would sell wouldn't match the originals. I believe that tv show was called "Chasing Classics" if you want to check old episodes out.
