  1. I can't think of any better reason to put a restoration on hold. That interior almost looks familiar...note to self, lock doors and put windows up when Mike is around the wagon.... Congrats. Of course, now I have a reason / excuse to maybe try driving down to the bluebonnet show one of these years so they can be seen together. Shame about the engine colour...probably deemed closer to correct than my Wildcat's though, I guess....
  2. MrEarl...the solution would be to grow your own, would it not?
  3. Just tell her you're picking it up for me...
  4. A '66 ST400 should still be a switch pitch transmission FWIW. I'm not sure what you would need to do though to verify and get it back. Good luck.
  5. That engine appears to be painted a colour other than the original Buick green. With that in mind, if you do any work to it, you will want to inspect / measure before ordering stuff like pistons and rings in case they are already oversized.
  6. My knee has been bothering me...perhaps it is time for a visit to the Ministry of Silly Walks....
  7. Yeah, but not everyone has the little folks handy when a fire breaks out...
  8. Great shots...looks like it was a fun tour.
  9. Actually, I just checked and noticed that after seeing the post asking about a gas tank for a baby Special...now I'll actually have to locate an ad and deal with the phone. Sigh. I did like the convenience of being able to just send a note asking if they have part X for car Y.
  10. No experience with that one there, I presume...not with your safety conscious brother around anyway...
  11. Roberta's good people.
  12. If I interpret it properly, Ditzler only listed it as the bottom colour for paint code 551 - see Color Chip Selection. Paint code 551 is what my '41 Special is. It isn't listed as a '41 colour scheme, but it could have been ordered...that is what is on the body plate. As for the judging manual, mistakes happen. I am sure it was created on the best available information, which may not have been perfect nor complete in the first place.
  13. Welcome Dennis. 1961 is a great body style for Buick. I would suggest you have good taste, but some may consider me biased since I have a '61 Invicta.
  14. Those covers look older to me, but 15" wheels were optional on the Special...it wouldn't surprise me if most wagons came with 15" wheels. Then again, my Invicta has a higher level hub cap, so I'm not sure what the basic one would be on the Special.
  15. I'd love to have that '61 Special wagon...such a neat little unit...and practical.
  16. Well, folks, as feared, the highway is closed due to the Red River flooding...there are other ways, but not as speedy. To top it off, I awoke to snow on the ground, still falling and blowing. Now, one could certainly argue that I'd be better off under your predicted 50 degree skies today, but I'd still need to come back to this...it's not supposed to get above freezing today, so there will probably be some on the ground tomorrow. Guess I'll have to go to the indoor show put on by the street rodders up here today as a consolation prize. Next year the show will be about a week later, so I'll be more likely to be able to plan for it and attend.
  17. 77%...doesn't bother me...I wasn't there in the '50s and I didn't get any of the huge quantity of Buicks wrong...of course Buicks in most of the '50s are too easy to identify with the VentiPorts. I wound up guessing on a lot of these. This outfit bugs me though...the number of customized cars they use for this identification is ridiculous. As soon as they change wheels and colours, two possible identification marks have been taken away. Grumble grumble.
  18. Stinkin' vandals! It's neat that you have that many '61 Buicks and no two the same model. I'll have to take a peek at my Invicta and see what I need...I know my rear bumper is rusty...the one on your Invicta is twisted, but that's still probably better than mine. Of course, shipping would be a bear. Anyway, great stories. There just aren't that many '61s around in the first place, so you don't see them that often. I really do like the styling.
  19. ROFLMAO Thanks for the compliment Dave...there is so much stupidity going on in the world that I have begun to equate old fart with things like loyalty, patriotism, and common sense.
  20. Heh...I'm splitting time between the computer and Top Gear on TV right now...the episode where they take three cars to the Eaton proving ground and the Roadmaster wagon wins...more proof positive that these are great cars.

    Test drive

Shoot, if you are going to Duluth, you will almost be here...you're welcome to pop on up. Then there's the show in St. Paul on Sunday....
