  1. i would not recommend this as a teenagers first car. there are probs with teves brakes and touche screens . many body and interior parts are not easy to find and specific to reatta. dont get me wrong the reatta is a fine car and 3800 is a fine engine. i just would not recommend it for a first car.
  2. my 89 had that happen and it turned out the fuel pump was going.
  3. ON MY 89 THE HEADLIGHTS NEEDED TO BE ON FOR THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT LIGHT TO BE ON . I ALWAYS THAT THAT WAS A POOR DESIGN .
  4. i had that happen once, i disconnected the neg batt cable and it reset itself and started right up good luck
  5. yes , i am sure it takes water to grow the plants used to make ethanol. but hopefully this is renewable. we know oil isnt. we need to lower our dependance on foreign oil imports. its close to a point now where gas costs are causing americans to debt even further. how many ppl have $50- $80 cash on them to fill their tanks? at $5 per gallon it will seriously cut into my disposable income. how about yours?

    Freaky...

starting and stopping an engine at each light, tht cannot be good for the engine in the long run?
  9. the reatta was never a super car. i agree with most here that the hand built eliment, the touchscreen on 88&89 yrs and look , plus 4 wheel disc and antiloc were good at the time. the engine while torquey didnt have the hp at all. and the weight distribution was not there. add in the inability for a stick , and u cant make much of a case for supercar status.
  10. i always found that 35 psi up front and 30 in rear worked best for my 89

    More Woes

have u pulled the plugs ? to see whts going on there?
  12. that is cool. i recently saw a buick docu on the history channel, and although i loved my 89 , this tv spot trashed the reatta , as too costly and a big disappointment for buick. i agree that the price back in 89 of 28 k was off the mark, i do think the car was a good one. and i think although the 3800 was bulletproof , for that price we should have had a special engine. what do u guys think ?
  13. miss at top end indicates plugs, that is simpliest place to start. plugs and wires. good luck
  14. i agree , i used a tranny cooler on mine and rubber lines with clamps and it was a no brainer. worked great, i would never use a used one. lets face it, a used on has to be at least 15 yrs old.

    Reatta mileage

i understand, the reatta can get good mileage when u are up to that speed, however that is misleading because u may have taken your foot off the gas that instant and that could affect the instant reading.
  16. i have heard that k & n can actually hurt hp and torque also. some studies show a marked decrease in filtering ability also. i would like to try it but think i will save my money and put that towards a more direct benefit like premium oil, spark plugs etc. i think k & n is emotional and hype.

    Re struts

i had gabriel in front monroe in rear, had to replace the monroes ( front ) were shot before rears.
  18. ok slight miss at idle, does it persist ? i would check the plugs and wires first. see the condition and if needs changing go to rapidfires and 8mm wires i would change the fuel filter and pcv valve, and check your air filter. then spary out the throttle body with air intake cleaner. that would be my first priority.
  19. ford tried it, the windows had a slight red tint to them. i think they stopped using it for some reason?
  20. should be, u can hopefully check under the car to tell
  21. i agree with u , i use synthetic and change it once a yr. i check the oil every mth, usually add a quart every 3 k miles and new filter and top off every 6 mths.
  22. i use those pads that are like a material that goes onto the terminal. it retards the acid buildup. cheap ins.
  23. this is a common scam. the check is no good. by the time the bank finds out u will be out your car and the money for the shipping. dont do it or insist he gives u a western union moneygram or a postal money order, something that is bulletproof. they tried it on me and i didnt go for it. good luck.
  24. hi guys , my 89 is for sale black with burgundy int. sunroof and power seat option. 182k and engine and tranny run new. no leaks or oil burning. body and interior good condition . has been my daily driver. $1100 takes her. in ny . let me know if interested. tc11003@hotmail.com

    Gm's future

very well put, however the numbers dont lie and gms market share is still shrinking, and the obligations they have with the uaw is way too burdensome. they cant close factories that lose money because of the uaw. u are right that gm lags behind competion in warranties and other areas . lets face it if u cant offer wht the competiton does ppl eventually buy other products . the big mistake gm made is the suv market which is so dependant on gas pricing , they had no major long term strategy. what is their chevy family sedan? the impala?? u must be kidding. oldsmobile was the first , which division is next? gm doesnt have a major hit. chrysler has the 300 and now the charger. as far as sedans i think that ford and gm have lost their way. chrysler has pop and excitement in their line. gm has the malibu? wht sedan is exciting?? wasnt the sedan the staple of the american auto market? just my 2 cents .
