  1. sounds like plugs to me. of course the a/c will drain power from the engine. if its in tune and all things are good u will feel that but not what u are experiencing.
  2. i had this same problem on my 89, evidentally they didnt have a cooler on the 88s . i couldnt find one so i used a tranny cooler. it cost around $45 with clamps and the install wasnt hard. i would not use a used part here.
  3. last year my 89 leaked there . i couldnt find one so i used a transmission cooler. it is larger but works fine and the install wasnt bad . good luck . i wouldnt use a used one if i were u.
  4. they were on the rear of my 89. i took them off when i did a wire and plug replacement.
  5. i have an 89 , love it , its my daily driver and i maintain it . in fact, it runs like new. do u guys think these cars will ever appreciate in value? if so, how much longer will it take?
  6. thts pretty good. how many miles does she have? are there any other mods?

    MASS AIR FLOW

    excellent , i am 180k on my 89 and strong as h..ll.
  8. opening the gas cap is always a good idea as well. i would make sure the car is cold before doing this. the filter is close to exhaust pipe on my 89. they should have put it near the rear axel.
  9. i would go with u said, u had just done the plugs. check the wires, u know those back ones are tough. a wire could have come off . i would go over all what u did , eliminate that and proceed from there, hopefully its tht.

    Reatta Wanted

i have an 89 with 180k on her , in good condition in ny area
  11. i have an 89 , and have gone through many of the quirks with her, however on the large issues this car has been bulletproof. the engine has 180k and pulls as strong as new , and idles without any vibration. the brakes are fine, i have replaced the rotors and pads myself and its not too hard. i have used synthetic oil and good filters, and used rapidfire plugs. i am surprized she runs so good. i tell ppl i dont know whats in store but she still looks and runs great.
  12. Barney , would a 180 degree stat bring my temp down in my 89'? I have never changed my thermostat. i have owned the car 4 yrs. thanks

    What gives?

i agree with u Howard. i think everyone on here is great and always very helpful. i have saved alot of money and trouble because of the terrific ppl on here.
  14. i think the reatta has one major thing going for her. the 3800 engine is a durable workhorse of an engine. u can expect problems with this car that, adjusting for age, are normal but i dont think abnormal. i would think if the car was sitting for 2 yrs , all fluids , filters, and tuneups should be addressed . good luck
  15. i put on blue 8mm on my 89 which i got from auto zone along with rapidfires. inexpensive and good.
  16. btw , i love my 89 reatta, and the 3800 is bulletproof!! i have 180 k on her and it runs great. the problem was tht for $26,000 u could buy a corvette. the reatta was a noble idea by buick but way too expensive. the car should have featured a higher powered engine and stick shift if it was going to be taken seriously and possibly a successful car for gm.
  17. i agree with the others, wd 40 wears off quickly, i would try the sprayable or brush on lithium grease. tht would last. and its what manuafacturers use.
  18. from my experience most of these products are bogus, and u would be better off checking your tire pressure, doing an oil change or tune up.
  19. hi, on my 89 last nite, as we were having a thunder storm, my alarm went on , but went off by itself, i never heard it so i thought it was my wifes. i clicked her alarm off and on , and soon went to bed. this am , i go to start my baby , and nada!!! no crank, plenty of battery power. i disconnected my neg batt cable and reconnected it and that cleared whatever code was interupting the ignition. has this happened to anyone?? plus i have the occasional trunk release and / or door locks going on every 3 mths or so. i have to disconnect the neg cable to stp that also. weird ?? i love the car but it is a weird one. problem is i love her and she runs so gooooddddddd!!!!!!!!!!
  20. hi, this morning , my 89 will not crank at all. no attempt. my battery is good and i checked the starter fuse and ignition fuse. both are in tact. does anyone have an idea? would the starter go without a warning?? thanks guys

    Dash Blackout

a piece of the puzzle could be the ipc, or digital dash itself. i bought one from jim finn and installed it on my 89. i hope other members can come up with more info for u. tc
  22. ty, i know wht the manuafacturer says, however , our reattas are top heavy with the 3800 engine and tranny, and relatively light rear end, i found that altering the pressure in favor of higher front works best. if u put 40 all around i would bet u would have a wheel hop in the rear. what do u think?
  23. i have dunlop sp 40 . i am not sure of the speed rating, i rarely would exceed 70
  24. thanks Padgett, i found the ride to be very smooth with these pressures, and i think we would all agree that our ride quality is a big factor in our beloved reattas
