Assuming you want to lock up the engine, an old trick is to feed a length of clothes line into one cylinder, through the spark plug hole.
  3. Does anyone know how I can get a copy of my judging sheet from Batavia? Thanks......Bob.
  4. Sorry, I should have made myself more clear. Start with an 8 point socket. All you have to grind away are 2 points on each opposite side........Bob
  5. Start with a 3/4" SQUARE socket ( made for square nuts ) With a die grinder and a tapered stone grind the opposite two sides of the cavity round leaving two sides flat. Worked for me.........Bob.
  6. Thanks, That helps an awful lot. What is the meaning of "Flying Colors?"
  7. Vin #558C10631. The car is (was) Grove Green and Polar White. My intention is to change the color to Regal Maroon and Polar White. The rear shelf is just bare metal now, hence my question. I also, at some point will need to know what interior color options were available with that combo and what the codes were. Thanks....Bob.
  8. with 95K on the engine you could have lots of different problems and most likely a combination. The lifters could be leaking down or frozen. The rocker shaft/arm worn. The push rods/arms worn. etc etc. Most likely all of the above. You could chase one thing at a time but if it's smoking, blowing, leaking, and making noise my guess is it won't be right with out a rebuild.......Bob.
  9. I've got 3 of them installed, 2 on Buicks one on a corvette. I left the ballast resister on as per instructions and wired as per instructions. I've had absolutly no problems. My coils are stock units........Bob.
  10. I used an epoxy 2 part system thats been down about 6 years of HARD use. It's been indestuctable. The key to good adhesion of the paint is the concrete MUST be clean, dry, and at least 30 days old and the floor MUST be etched with an acid solution to give the concrete the "tooth" to hold the paint........Bob.
  11. To remove windshield trim...........Remove small sheet metal screws in rear face of pillar trim piece. Remove piece. The rest of trim pieces slide out of hidden clips, lube squirted behind trim helps a lot. The top center piece is inserted in W/S gasket before glass is installed and cannot be removed without removing the glass.......Bob.
  12. I've had good luck with Apple. I beleive they do thier own work and White Post just brokers the work out and marks it up........Bob.
  13. Does anyone know the correct material (vinyl, cardboard, etc,) that covers the rear shelf between the rear seat back and window in a 1955 Super 88. Probably the same for 54 to 56. If so, do you know if it was matched to the interior or a standard neutral color..Bob.
  14. Free to good home. 4 tickets to the Concours d'Elegance at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, for this June 19th. A $60 value. bhigdog1@ptd.net..........Bob.
  15. Does anyone know what type material ( if any ) was used to cover the rear seat deck (where the rear speaker is) on a 55 S-88? Was it cardboard, vinyl, etc and would the color match the interior or did they use a universal neutral color? Thanks.......Bob.
  16. I'm looking for a 55 Olds 4 barrel carb. A rebuildable core would do just fine. EMail me direct bhigdog1@ptd.net Thanks.......Bob
  17. Looking for a 55 olds S88 4 barrel carb. Rebuildable core would be just fine. Contact me direct.... bhigdog1@ptd.net. Thanks, Bob.
  18. The Buick forum DOES seem a bit more helpful. As the new owner of two 55 Super 88's (to be combined into one restored one) I was hoping for a bit more lively group. Not a criticisum guys, just an observation, don't shoot the messenger........Bob.
  19. I pull a 24' enclosed trailer hauling Buicks also. After 3 blowouts in 5 trips I pulled the tires and went to load range "E" rated tires inflated to 80 PSI. I haven't had a problem since. Some things I do may help. I bought a high quality, accurate gauge and check often to keep the pressure at 80 pounds cold. I also run my rear tow vehicle tires at max reccomended pressure. I also now carry two spares. BTW if you don't have a " trailer aid " you should. It's a little ramp you use to raise the flat tire. No jack needed. It makes changing a trailer tire a breeze...........Bob.
  20. Yup, What N.C.T. said. Acme threads are whats called a "translating" screw. They are used primarily to impart motion to other parts, like the vice jaw mentioned, machine parts, or even the seat of a swivel chair. Find a McMaster-Carr catalog. The variety of fasteners they sell is truly mind bending, with pictures, and they will sell in small quantities.......Bob
  21. Kanter lists it in their catalog. $140 exchange. Prob. a regrind.
  22. The ACD Museum is indeed a stunning place to visit. When I was there, I was with my friend, Matt Troxell, Who's father used to be a well known collector/classic car dealer in PA. When we happened upon the Tasco Matt became quite excited. He remembered his Dad owning the car for awhile and riding in it with his Dad to go for ice cream. Small World.......Bob.
  23. Half of that would sound more reasonable.
  24. Shop manual and shop manual....Bob
